It's too bad that they are designing this on that horrible non ergonomic mouse. I just wish Apple would learn what ergonomics is.

Apple Inc. has filed for a patent describing a computer mouse having a touch-sensitive shell capable of accepting multi-touch finger gestures, similar to the surface of the company's iPhone handset.

On my PC my mouse, keyboard and headset are all Logitech. Every single one of them is a great product. On my Mac, my keyboard and mouse are both by Apple. (Apple Wireless Keyboard, Wireless Mighty Mouse) I love the apple keyboard, but I really dont like the Mighty Mouse. Making it look like an orb or something doesnt make it comfortable. My logitech G5 mouse is unsurpassed in comfort or quality.

I think there can be several vectors to creating an ergonomically designed mouse with an Apple style....and I dont think that the Mighty Mouse is one of them. It definately looks good, however it is not good on the hands on long term usage. Moreover, using Photoshop, Illustrator, or any Creative Suite CS3 product for that matter can become very frustrating and tiring on the Mighty Mouse IMO...atleast it has been for me.

I use a Logitech wireless mouse, which has been great for me so far. I really hope that Apple will redesign the look of their future "Mightier Mouse" :) .

My (current gen) White Apple USB Keyboard is the only keyboard I've been happy with in years, the ergonomics are fine for me - the last keyboard I actually enjoyed using was an old individually microswitched keyboard which came with a 286 machine - it had fantastic tactile feedback but couldn't be used at night with others around; it was like having an infestation of deathwatch beetles!

Eh, honestly I don't care so much about ergonomics. IMO, some of the weird-shaped keyboards and mice that people roll out wind up being confusing and awkward. I have a standard, oval-shaped mouse with no special grooves or cushions. I've used a Mighty Mouse before, and it was fine.

I just hope that this mouse-based Multi-Touch™ (yeh, apparently Apple's trying to copyright it) technology isn't going to replace the idea of having Multi-Touch™ screens. Hopefully, we can see a mix of both technologies implemented in upcoming Mac notebooks and maybe even new displays.

I for one love the mighty mouse. It retains the clean look of the single button apple mice but adds much more functionality (i.e. right click). I've never really bought into that ergonomics stuff other than ergonomic ways of setting up your monitor to reduce back/eye strain. I've always hated those ergonomic keyboards and mice. They just feel weird to me but that's more of a personal preference thing. I'm not knocking people who like them. The only apple mouse i didn't like were the old original iMac/G3 ones that were round. Those were really uncomfortable to me. I for one think a multitouch pad similar to a trackpad would be cool, although i don't think it would totally replace a mouse. Using a trackpad in Photoshop, for instance, is a pain in the ass.
