Hi,

according to aussie APC magazine, Sheridan Jones, Microsofts Lead Marketing Manager of Mac Business Unit (MacBU) said that they are just about starting the beta within the next few days. The final will be available as a universal binary in the second half of this year.

One of the main things is to ensure the compatibility to MS Office 2007. Users of Office 2004 will get a converter for their files. VBA-Macros are not supported any longer. A new part of office called "MyDay" uses the Entourage scheduler without need of the User-PIM. It is a mini app that lists schedule entries and will mark them colored, make them editable etc.

I also found some screenshots:

We need those betas now. Office2004 isn't that slow for me, but it's probably the only non-UB app I have :)

Can't wait for the green demon and pink place to get it in their trackers ^_^

Although I have office 2004 (on both macs), I never use it. I always end up using office 2003 in Windows(paralells). I don't know why, it just seems easier on the eyes to me. I guess that could be because i'm typically a Windows guy, but I have tried to like office for mac. Seems like the menus and palettes are just all over the place to me..... ;):) This new one looks as if it will be the same...

I actually felt a little giddy looking at how nice Excel 2008 is. Maybe it's the ultimate come-back to Apple's constant stereotypical spreadsheet bashing.

I don't think it's out for testing yet, but when it is, it'll be leaked within 5 minutes.

Hum... I'm an OpenOffice guy, but this 'new' MS Office seems pretty cool...

Well... I had Office 2004 installed in my Mac OS X... and I've tried Office 2007 with the awesome MS Windows Vista, muhauahuahaau... (no comments, just to try) In my opinion this Office 2008 have a better design then the two precedents, it's eye candy ;)

By the way... Yes, it's another M$ product... At least, they didn't forgot 'us' :D
