  1. Yeah. But entourage still doesn't compare with outlook, which I have to use for work. It can get -- frustrating -- to have to fire up a parallels vm every time I log into the office.
  2. After a lot of pain, finally got Office 2007 running on my Mac under Crossover. Very fast, very usable, except I can't seem to get Outlook to connect. How-to posted here: http://www.sheehanmiles.com/Office2007_Und..._Crossover.html
  3. Thanks. The verdict is, I wasn't paying attention.
  4. Have I been asleep and just missed this report? Anyone else seen it? Comments? According to the report, they were able to crack a Filevault encrypted disk. Edit: I forgot the link: http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/02/r...rchers-dis.html
  5. PST files on PC's and Mac's

A PST file is just that. A file. A big one, often, but its just a file. I have PSTs and OST's in my mac home directory, which I access using Outlook running under Parallels. Works fine. There's absolutely nothing in OSX that prevents normal use of a PST file. In other words -- it's Microsoft's fault. They simply haven't made entourage to read them. As far as Office 2008 goes -- the Beta does not import PSTs. Let's home RTM might. Would come in handy.
  6. So far so good. Upgraded by 10.4.10 to Leopard, so far so good. Toshiba A105-S4122, GMA950, ALC882 sound, all good. Wired network is fine, but still no wireless (it has the intel 3945abg wireless). However, coolest thing, it recognized the Verizon Express/34 card I used in my MBP right off and dialed in to the 3G network, no problems. Sweet. Using this one as a backup/desktop machine. Only real problem so far is I want to migrate my users over from my real mac, and while firewire works fine, and it mounts the other mac in target disk mode, Migration assistant just seems to hang out and not do anything. Time Machine works. A little bit of mouse artifacts on the video on my external monitor.
  7. No problems with airport, but my ethernet doesn't seem to want to work. Doesn't detect cable ( I swapped the cables, tried different ports, everything).
  8. Applications known NOT to work

Got an update on Curio at least -- they've apparently changed their mind and WILL be releasing a version that works on Leopard. http://www.zengobi.com/blog/2007/10/curio-3-and-leopard.html Excellent news, and I'm pleased to see they responded to the comments on their blog and emails.
  9. Applications known NOT to work

I'm the it director for a small nonprofit, and we just upgraded to laptops with vista. What I would have done to have been able to go with macs instead.
  10. Is Leopard Release slow on your Mac?

I had the same issues, seemed to permissions related or something odd loading from my home folder. Repair permissions didn't work, tried everything. Finally took these steps: 1. Created a temporary account 2. Copied all my docs, music, etc. into a MS_DOS formatted DMG (to strip out any permissions 3. Logged into temporary account and deleted my old one 4. Created new account with same name as original 5. Logged in, copied everything back, except only brought in selected preferences because I had a LOT of old garbage in my library folder Runs VERY fast now, considerably faster than tiger was.
  11. Applications known NOT to work

Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to have to do. Curio doesn't really have any export function that is worthwhile, but I can at least save to pdfs and use them as reference. I suggested on their blog today that discontinuing OS support for a product they were selling 2 months ago is probably not a very good business practice. Ah, well.
  12. Will you use 2D or 3D dock on bottom?

I use it on the side, so I can leave the windows taskbar at the bottom.
  13. Hopefully I'm not duplicating an old thread. I was disappointed to learn that Curio, an app I use all the time, has no plans to have their 3.2 version support Leopard. http://www.zengobi.com/blog/2007/10/gettin...ut-leopard.html They only went to 4.0 a couple months ago, and 3.2 was what I purchased just a few months ago. Not happy to have to shell out another 50 to 90 bucks for an app I just bought. Any other apps known for sure to not work with Leopard?
  14. Hmm. I'm being packet shaped at the moment. Yuck.
  15. Teething problems with 559...

Quicksilver -- yeah, same issues. Also, I use Curio a LOT, and I've discovered that version 3.2, at least, won't work at all. Tried on my Macbook Pro and the Mac Mini, both running 559. It errors out and won't start, even after a reinstall. :(One other issue I've run into -- on my MBP, the network card doesn't detect when a cable is plugged in. I swapped cables with the mini, just to be sure, and it's definitely the laptop, not the cable. Hmm.
