after installation, i'm stuck at a blue screen after the gray apple logo...

pc specs is in my sig...

i re-installed a couple of times using the onboard video as my main video making sure on all installs, i included the intel package plus...

- gma950 package

- 10.4 about mac crash fix

and another reinstallation with the intel package (using a separate x1950pro) but with...

- natit ati package

- 10.4 about mac crash fix

both installations only hang at the blue screen.

my board's chipset is an i945G with ICH7R southbridge.

Try to use only USB or PS2 conenctions. Disable USB in the BIOS if you're using PS2 device. If using USB, use onyl USB. Don't mix with PS2.

This seems to coincide with my present problem. I am using a PS/2 keyboard and a USB mouse. Regardless of the way I install OSX using various builds... from the installation, everything is working fine, even until registration (post-install)...

But as soon as the desktop appears and I move the USB mouse, BAM! system crashes. I was wondering if this is in any way related at my problem? On the older 10.4.8 builds theres a part there not to install the USB2.0 support. However, on this latest build, as good as it is, that option is not there anymore. ;)

Please advise. TIA!

I'd advise you update yourself and buy a USB keyboard! :)

They're not (necessarily) a lot of money. If you can find a good price, the Saitek Eclipse II is an awesome, quiet, backlight-letters, 3 color changeable usb keyboard. Before that I had some cheesy HP ones from Fry's that cost me $15 and had a volume knob. (But required very lame software.)

Hi, This is my experience of 10.4.8 so far on a Dell D820 Intel core duo (2gb RAM). Never had OSX installed on this before, but have done it on a couple of other dells (D610, D410) but none core duo. I also have it running very well (10.4.7) on my PC.

OK, so - I took the long-winded (but very safe) approach of ghosting the XP and Vista images I had already on the laptop, wiped it, and recreated some partitions:

10GB (OSX) Fat32, then to 0xAF

15GB (WinXP) NTFS

20.5GB (Vista) NTFS

The Rest - Data. FAT32

I have installed OSX from the JaS 10.4.8 DVD. Then Ghosted the WinXP and Vista partitions back. After much annoyance and playing around I have the Vista bootloader booting XP and Vista. I also have Acronis detecting OSX (well, unknown, but it's OSX) and XP (which goes to the Vista loader for XP and Vista).

So all good there then.

So, I'd boot the OSX partition, it's load up, the welcome and loading screens come up, then the IP settings screens. So I filled in the forms using static IP and it continued.... The background was all blue with the mouse pointer there and moving when i moved the mouse. And that's it. It just stays at the blue screen, mouse still responds, but nothing happens!

OK, now I've just gone through it again, using DHCP, and now it's feezing on the 'Your Internet Connection' page. Says 'configuringb your computer' at the bottom, the twirly wheel thingy has slowed RIGHT down. I'll continue to monitor it and edit the post if there's any change.

Meanwhile, any advise is appreciated¬!

I'm on an Asus Z71V laptop with a 2.0ghz centrino. Atheros Card, marvell yukon, 6600 go, 1gb ram.

I originally installed Goatsex's 10.4.6 and everything worked without needing any tweaking except the video. I just formated and installed 10.4.8....

now my AC97 audio doesn't work, atheros doesn't work, yukon doesn't work, and to top it off my USB ports are recognized at all!

thought I can finally get my 1680 resolution with Natits pack.

gonna try the USB fix from the Hardware forum....*fingers crossed*

Managed to install the 10.4.8 dvd without the ppf patch, but was required to install though VMWare and have to use the "cpus=2" flag at startup for it to work (running amd x2 4200). USB works fine, but have no audio or network.

Audio is: Realtech HD audio output

LAN is: Attansic L1 Gigabit ethernet

Audio worked in 10.4.6 so was thinking I could somehow use that kext, but my LAN didnt. USB is working in this version though.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Hi, I had the same problem with my GeForce Go7400 and here I'm going to explain how I fix it.

1. Start your comp and just befor boot hit F8 buton, then type "-s" and hit Enter

2. Wate until the page is loding and then type "mount -uw /" and hit enter. Now you can edit whatever you want.

3. Type nano System/Library/Extentions/GeForce.kext/Contens/Info.plist +enter, scrol down until you see <key>IOPCIMatch</key>. You have to enter the ID of your Video cart like I did in this way"<string>0x004010de& 0x01d810de". 0x01d810de is mine ID and this an example! Do Ctrl+O enter and Ctrl+x to exit.

4. Do the same with NVDANV40Hal.kext and NVDARessman.kext.

5. Do chown -R and chmod -R. Don't forget to remove Extentons.mkext and kextcache

6. Reboot. You will have a desktop but whitout QE/CI. If You don't have an Ethernet working I hope I can help you again. Success!!!

Okay... Did it all but still the same....no video. Why does # 6 say without QE/CI? I thought this was to get QE/CI?

When I install without Nvida option in 10.4.8, I get video. Not as good as version 10.4.7. There is something missing. Theres gota be some1 here with a quadro FX 1300 that has QE/CI? Im soo close. Thanks krassi for yor help, please dont give up on me ;) Im soooo close to Ilife and more

If I remember...is it possible that there should be a space Like this "0x004010de& 0x00FE10de" ? I think its like this "0x004010de&0x00FE10de". All I did was edit my device id and did not add any spaces, symbols, etc.

I forgot to mention....hope this is some help....

I have been installing OS 10.4.8 a few times (try and error) and than developed a kernel panic. I could not even format my drive in Utilities because it detected some error...

The fix...

I booted up version 10.4.7 and open its Utilities and did a format with no trouble. Than restarted with 10.4.8 installation.

Also...

If there is a lot of errors and the cd keeps booting in "-v" mode, turn your computer off for a few seconds and try again or take out the DVD and give it a clean before you try again. Worked for me and I hope this helps any1

All the best!

Hello All,

10.4.8 is driving the system crazy ;)

I never had any problems with any of the releases untill 10.4.8.

I managed to get my networking work by searching on this forum and downloading a patched ionetworkingfamily.kext

but then the system seem'd slow and i reformatted it and did a install again ----

now after 3 attempts of installation " I am safely running OSX 10.4.8. but no success on Network card i.e. Broadcom 440 (Never had a prob with the NIC as it used to auto configure)

This time, i tried the same method to make the NIC detectable and be able to browse the net but " NO Success "

any help ?

System is a Dell Dimension 5000 915, 1GB Ram, SATA 160HD, Broadcom network card (Internal)

Regards

Mutahir

also.... Should I be entering Revision ID rather than Device ID? and I forgot to metion in my previous post... I did not edit GeForce.kext for my quadro fx 1300. If I did do I have to also chomd -R and chown -R GeForce.Kext?

(my monitor is hooked up regular video not dvi) does that make a differance?

Made some slow progress.

Graphics now working lovely thanks to Titan bundled with ppf v1, running full 1440x900 res, very nice!

Still no luck with my audio though, a Realtech 660 intergrated card on a Asus M2V mobo, any help would be great.

Another site is saying that there is no Mac x86 support for my ethernet, Attansic L1, but can use a USB modem for the time being so this isnt too major.

Anyone having any luck with realtek 660 would be great to talk to you!

I just installed and I get "cannot find '/com.apple.boot.plist'" on boot with or without cd in drive. also, my hdd seems to be at disk0s2 instead of disk0s1.

I have formatted the disk with disk utility before the install. everything was fine under 10.4.6.

I have an sse2 intel cpu and selected the appropriate install options. any ideas?

EDIT: There seems to be a problem with disk utility on this dvd. The disk was not formatted completely or something. Formatted with 10.4.6 dvd and now its working

Incase ur having kernel panics

Reinstall without the package NV40 or ATi ones and install natit.kext if u want Graphics support.

(1) Put the Natit kext in your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder.

(2) Correct the file premissions:

sudo chown -R root:wheel Natit.kext

sudo chmod -R 755 Natit.kext

(3) Remove the cached and packed extensions:

sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

(4) Reboot.

in my case, kernel panics happen even if i only have the Intel core package installed. :P

cannot manage to boot JaS 10.4.8 :( even if install is successful and my system was previously running smoothly with Goatsecx 10.4.6

my laptop :

Dell Inspiron 8200

P4m 1.6 GHz (SSE2, you bet!)

512Mb RAM

GeForce 4 Go 440 64Mb (OK with MacVidia)

Audio, ethernet and wifi and cd-r were OK too

here is a screenshot in verbose mode, system is hanging (KP screen in graphic mode)

I tried with Nvidia gfx driver checked or unchecked (here checked), always intel package checked
