  1. OK I had to do that in the end, reinstall and transfer from Time Machine. BUT it's not transferred the kernel. And I bet none of the kexts either. Now my kernel is 9.1.0 and it was 9.2.0. So to get back to that I need to update the kernel...I'm wondering what else it's missed out+whether it'll be stable now.
  2. Hi, I've had to restore from Time Machine. I cant boot. I have seen many people have been able to fix this with the 'darwin' command on the iAtkos 2 disk. I dont have that particular disk, I have v1 and lots of others. Does anyone know of another distro which can run the darwin command? I've tried iDeneb, Kalyway 10.5.2 and ToH. Or, another option would be getting into the OS using a DVD to boot...I'm not sure how to do that though. Thanks.
  3. I dont think you can run it from the install DVD, but when you first create an account there's an option to restore from Time Machine there. I am running it now from the iDeneb DVD. It seemes to be working, but I'll be interested to see what this partitioning thing will do! Maybe iDeneb uses two partitions too?? You could, I suppose, restore within OSX, but you have to do it file by file, or folder by folder, and I dont think you'll be able to replace 'in use' files... At least I could get back all my drivers/kexts, bookmarks, etc. I'll be back in about 15mins when this restore has finished to let you knwo if it worked!! I guess the worst that can happen is: it doesnt work! I'll still have the TM backup and be able to try a different approach ) I was reading about the BOOT-132 disk earlier, I'm using a Vanilla kernel (9.2.2 I think) so might give that a go. Would be really, REALLY nice to be able to update with NO MESSING!! 15mins later... OK, it restored successfully, but it wont boot. I get boot:0 error. I heard someone mentioned boot from the DVD, then install efi. So I'm gonna try that. But I'm not sure how to boot into the OS from the DVD?! Any ideas about that? I didnt know there was any option to do that. OK, now I'm trying to get a distro which has the 'darwin' command in the single user mode. Apparently this will fix it. I dont have iAtkos 2 tho, so just trying all the other distros I do have!
  4. OK, I 'm gonna try Time Machine from ToH DVD when I get home. But what you said doesnt really make sense... Whether Kalyway's disk makes some extra partition or not - you need to have OSX installed to use Time Machine, so surely if you have a backup of a Kalyway installation on Time Machine then if you reinstall a 'virgin' install of Kalyway, then use Time MAchine (from any DVD you can get it to work on) then restoring should be fine, no? Doesnt matter if you run Time Machine from ToH DVD as you're not installing anything from the DVD, are you (am I?!)?? I'll try some other distro DVD's when I get home. But just to clarify - it's NOT possible to do a full restore within the OSX OS? I tried restoring the whole 'Leopard' partition, but it seems to just copy it to a folder at the root of the drive rather than overwriting everything. My Time MAchine worked straight 'out of the box' with Kalyway 10.5.2 - started backing up straight away (I did have wireless working out of the box too - cos I put the 1490 TrueMobile WLAN card into my laptop for that reason - and cos there still isnt a fix for 5752 Broadcom NICs). That's why I found it strange that it didnt work from the Kalyway DVD - which is the disk I installed from... Anyway, will report back later.
  5. Hi, I'm trying to do a restore. Time Machine worked fine backing up to the other partition on my internal drive. I've reinstalled 10.5.2 on the 'primary' partition and am trying to restore from the second partition. If I run Time Machine from within OSX after booting up normally I can restore files etc. IF I boot from the DVD and try to run it to do a full restore it just hangs. The rainbow wheel thing comes up and just keeps going... I would like to restore from a backup - is there anyway I can do it from within the OS? Or is there some reason why it wont work from the DVD?? Thanks in advance!
  6. Hi,. I just set up my Mac on my D620 laptop (Intel Centrino Duo). All was working REALLY well with Kalyway's 10.5.2. Had everything set up, even backed up with Time Machine to be safe! I then got the 10.5.4 update, wanted to update to that, then to 10.5.5 after. I followed instructions from a thread here saying to open the terminal and type something like (sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done) or something along those lines (I typed it correctly at the time, just dont have that page open in front of me now - it was open on my hackintosh!) So I did that, and then started the update. Was gonna close the terminal and deal with Dsmos.kext and then reboot... Here's where I think it went wrong - I had just taken the mains power out to look at the battery icon and hadnt plugged it in before the update. It was only 2 mins so no way the battery ran out, but the screen went off a couple of mins into the update. I tried to get it back, the laptop wasnt asleep, but it stayed off. So I waited, gave it time to at least finish running the update, but had to hard reboot it. Now I get the following error at boot. Package 0 didn't get an HPET ( x10 lines) panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2EFD1B9C): "No HPETs available...CPU(s) configured incorrectly\n"@/SourceCache/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement-39/pmThread.c:100 Debugger called: <panic> Bactrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x2f0ebf08 : 0x12b0f7 (0x4581f4 0x2f0ebf3c 0x133230 0x0) 0x2f0ebf58 : 0x2efd1b9c (0x2efd4894 0x0 0xbb617cf9 0x4) 0x2f0ebfc0 : 0x19eadc (0x0 0x0 0x1a20b5 0x460fd60) Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0 Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement(9.39.0)@0x2efcb000->0x2efe4fff BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task Mac OS version: 9C7010 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 9.2.2: Tue Mar 4 21:17:34 PST 2008; root:xnu-1228.4.31~1/Release_I386 So, I guess I'm asking - if anyone knows what that error is, is there anything I can do to fix it? OR Can I restore from Time Machine if I cant get into the OS? Would really appreciate any help, I've just spent days getting this 'just right'! Time Machine restore would be ideal, or fixing the problem but I guess Time Machine would be easier? If it's 'accessible'>?! Many thanks in advance ) OK, so I can restore with Time Machine from the DVD ir reinstall and restore to make sure EFI is installed. If I could fix this problem - or at least find out what caused it so I know whether to try updating again, it would be handy!
  7. Mac OS X on a Dell Latitude D620?

Hi, I'm using a Dell D620. Was using a D610 but have upgraded - kinda! Spec in sig. Had OSX 10.4.8,.9,.10 and .11 dual booting with Windows XP - even triple booted with SUSE Linux for a while - even quad booted with Vista too for a bit! Using Acronis OS selector and GRUB got to be a bit confusing tho and kept encountering problems so just OSX and XP is easier! Anyway, am experimenting with Leopard now that I have a core duo D620. I've got XP and OSX 10.4.11 installed on an internal SATA drive. Got problems with networking on OSX cos of the Intel wireless card, and havent got round to sorting out the Broadcom 57xx wired NIC yet. Everything else seems to be OK. On another drive (SATA internal) I have been testing Leopard. Was trying to dual boot for a while but I dont think Acronis likes EFI emulation so have given up on that for now. Will try with Vista once I've got Leopard fully sorted. So I tried several attempts at installing Leopard. Brazil patched 9A581, iATKOS v1.0+v1.0ir2, Kalyway 10.5.1 and only really had any luck with Kalyway. That's what I finally got smoothly going last night. Have applied patches and virginizer and it's OK. I've got no network yet - the Intel WLAN doesnt work...need to get hold of a Broadcom chipset WLAN card and havent got the 57xx NIC going yet either. Bluetooth is fine and so's the graphics. Still not quite got the audio going. I used a guide for installation on a D630, which went really well but there are some differences and that's what I havent got working. Like the X1300 video, I dont have that but mine's OK anyway. I dont have the Dell 1390 wireless either which seems to work 'out of the box' (I think it's a Broadcom chipset). It surprised me that Intel doesnt work with Leopard, now that they've gone witht the processors...! So can we get a list of compatibility issues, patches anyone has that have worked, and general info so we can all get either Tiger, preferably Leopard going on our D620's?! I will follow this with a list when I get some more time later, and I'll do some driver/kext testing and see what I can get working. I guess the big question is: does anyone have the Intel Wireless working?!?!?If so, please tell me how! Thanks.
  8. XxX_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_Intel

Hi, I've used your install disk before successfully on my PC and if I remember rightly on my old D610 Dell laptop. I'm using a D620 now, and it installs fine, but after the first boot I just get the multi language welcome screens (Wilkomen, BienVenue, etc!) and I cant get past that! Just wonde3ring if that was a known issue, or if you know what might be the cause. I have tried with 3 different kernels, as I say: Dell D620, Intel Core Duo, 2GB Corsair RAM, OnBoard Intel GMA945 graphics. It has Intel Wireless. I know this is going to be a problem with Tiger (I've got another HDD to install Leopard on!) but I got the Broadcom NIC working on the D610 before so hopefully I'll be able to at least get wired networking. If you have any advice, please let me know. Thanks.
  9. Hi, Just to let anyone else using a Dell D620 know, I got Leopard installed using Kalyway disk, partition mbr and use EFI-mbr patch. Other than that didnt really select anything as they didnt apply. Graphics (Intel on board) working well, no networking yet tho. The WLAN is Intel, so have to see if there's a fix for that. I did have an old Broadcom WLAN card but cant find it I know they work. I guess wired would do, but I think that's Intel too - I'll have to double check...It might be a Broadcom 57xx. Hopefully. But I went thru loads of times, trying loads of options, and finally, mbr partitioning with EFI_mbr is the only way that's worked. Enjoy!
  10. Latitude D610 - Working

Hi, I was always using a D610 before, I'm now using a D620. This should (in theory) be more compatible as it has a Core Duo... I'm having problems tho. Can you post details of your configuration? Selections? EFI? I'd really appreciate it. Also which 'distro' - ToH or Kalyway? And dual boot??? I was always dual booting with Tiger, and so would love to with Leopard - but am happy to dedicate the drive if necessary to get it up +running. Thanks in advance...
  11. I'm having troubles with Leopard on this Dell D620. Have tried formatting the whole disk, and using Acronis. 10.4.x is fine, 10.5 goes thru the installation fine but then doesnt boot. If anyone has it working on a D620 could you let me know - and what Distro you've used please? And if you're dual booting. I really want Leopards installed and am happy to dedicate the drive. Just not 100% sure about EFI stuff and, well, it just doesnt seem to like this laptop. Saying that, I could only get it to work on my PC briefly - but that's got an old P4 Northwood processor... The D620 has an Intel core Duo. On board Intel Graphics. (GMA945 I think.) Thanks in advance.
  12. I am and have for ages been happily dual booting XP and Mac OSX (10.4.8) from the same hard disk using Acronis OS Selector. I have been trying out Leopard but having different problems. I'm gonna try a couple of the fixes I've just found (renaming the partion to Leopard etc). But my question is this: There is a batch file which copies the Leopard image to a disk. So you dont need an install DVD and all that, you just use dd from Windows and it does it. I'm just wondering if anyone can advise me on using it to write from my XP partition (not DISK) to my OSX partition (on the same disk as XP!). The command for writing to 'disk0' is: dd if=leopard-x86-flat-img of=\\?\Device\Harddisk0\Partition0 bs=5M --progress pause So presumably, first if I change the executable dd.exe to dd-partition.exe then from what I can tell it'll only write partitions then anyway, so that kind of safe guards me from overwriting a whole disk (cos I could kinda do without that!). But I'm cinsideringthe MBR and how this is going to affect that. And the boot loader. (Acronis). The thing is, OSX has ALWAYS been the first partition on the disk. So XP is the second. So every time I re-install OSX (and it's been done several times!) I'm wrinting over the first part of the disk. I dont know if it's the first 512bytes that I need to skip using dd.exe - I'm sure there is some parameter that needs to be added for this to work. I just need to overwrite the partition that is already there. Can anyone advise at all? Thanks.
  13. Hi, I have a really strange, annoying proble. I have had 10.4.8 installed on this laptop for ages with no problems. Didnt even need an external monitor connected or anything. Now I have installed 10.4.10. The install went perfectly. 1st reboot, setup, fine. Now every subsequent reboot just goes to the apple logo, then the blue screen comes up - the login window should be next - and it just never comes. I ahev tried using the old login window app during install, but same happens. Even if I connect a monitor, makes no difference. anyone have even the vaguest suggestion so I can at least try something!?! Any help would be really appreciated. Oh, I ahve the same version of 10.4.10 (MrRogers) installed on my PC (dual booting with XP) and it's working absolutely fine. Anbyway, thanks.
  14. Does anyone know (or have a link to somewhere that explains it) what is removed from the smaller uphuck images (in comparison to the JaS images for example)? Just wondering what is going to be missing...the newer ones even have a load of applications pre-installed too...or is it just a better use of space?! Thanks.
  15. 10.4.9 HotISO

Hi, I've got hold of the 10.4.9 'HOTISO' release. I've extracted it, and it's nearly 5.5GB .iso. Does anyone know if that's right? Should I burn it to a Dual Layer disk? Or have I got a screwed up image?! I'm downloading the uphuck image now, but that's only 1.06GB about. Isn't that gonna be missing a whole lot of content? I'm happily using 10.4.8 at the moment, but was gonna try a 10.4.9 install and 10.4.10 upgrade on my test laptop before going 'all the way'! Any advice on those images? Thanks.
