WEG is disabled in my OpenCore config.plist and both Sequoia and Tahoe work without problems... So what is the WEG role now?

Edit : Maybe because I use an AMD 580 and not the igpu?

If you have 580, disabled igpu in the bios, and using macpro7,1, you don't need weg. But for other AMD users or other smbios users, weg is needed unless they manually add ssdts/patch for rename, agpm etc.

I didn't disable igpu in bios (I use it for windows dual boot) but i use disable-gpu property in config plist and it needs weg for that.

I use weg for daily use and I keep an usb without weg added to config plist just for intermediate boot process during tahoe macos update if it gets stuck.

Try to configure your iGPU in Device Properties (in case it's not already). Here's what you need to add/change. Adapt to your case, as necessary.

Tahoe is a bit pickier than others when it comes to graphics. So you need to make sure everything is set up properly.

So, choose an SMBIOS that is compatible with Tahoe (alternatively, I think you could also use -no_compat_check param in NVRAM > boot-args with your current SMBIOS). Haven't tested that thoroughly, so...try that, if you want.

In my experience with Tahoe so far, what's causing most of the issues is either Graphics, or, for newer devices (not your case), USB. So try to configure your framebuffers as described on that page, and see if it works

Sooo.  After trying various stuff.  Several reboots I’m seeing more stuff on the desktop.  I’m now seeing the bottom bar as well as the top.  I’m seeing all the icons in the application folder and other places.  I’m seeing the login screen and associated wallpaper.  Not seeing the desktop screen.  I was able to download and install opencore picker but you are right.  It says unsupported.  So I guess I could be stuck at this point unless a miracle happens.  FYI.  I haven’t tried to reenable any of the kexts I disabled including whatevergreen.

At least I have Sequoia.

General question because I just noticed a new WEG, I've not been using it because I have a RX6800, is there any point in using it? I try to keep things as vanilla as possible but maybe there's better stability or speed?

@surfinchina A new WEG?  At the time of this post, the difference between WEG 1.70 (Release) and 1.7.1 (not released) is that 1.7.1 has an incremented version number.

I've got 6600 XT. There are couple of reasons why I use WEG for dGPU alone are AGDP patch that allows to use DisplayPort and the powermanagement. With WEG, when idle, power consumption sits at 5W and temp is relatively few degrees cooler but w/o WEG, idle power consumption sits at 20W and the temp of the GPU is a bit higher. I have not measured from the wall but this all based on HWMonitorSMC2 report.

Edit: Sorry, regardless of WEG, I find above behavior to happen if Henbury framebuffer is injected. I guess it has to do with some of the power related parameters associated with loading Henbury FB.

Nope. No significant difference.

New to me :)

I stopped using it on the first beta, found I didn't need that or nootrx and never put it back.

Sadly, you will need OCLP to bring back the drivers that have been removed many versions ago... So yeah, for now, I don't think there's a way to bring that back. And what you're seeing is an effect of that. But looks like the installation was successful which we were trying to achieve in the first place. :) I'm glad it worked for you.

Update:

So, updated to Beta 6, all good...except for the fact that I had to disable WEG again, so the installation can continue.

But...I switched back to MacPro7,1 and, with this one, I don't have to re-enable WEG after the installation is complete (or to be able to complete the installation and boot to desktop). At least it's one less thing to worry about. We'll see what further developments show. But, at least for the RX580, MacPro7,1 seems to be a better suited SMBIOS than iMac20,1.

Ah... my mistake.  Sorry about that.

EDIT: Thanks to a bug reported by laobamac, Acidanthera Devs are aware of the Tahoe boot hang.  Hopefully that will be resolved in a future version of WEG.

Not listed here why ?

beta 6 build 25A5338b not listed simply because maybe it is not available on the repository where the app is looking for it (softwareupdate catalog or others)???

Super fast and easy incremental OTA upgrade from Tahoe Beta 5 -> Beta 6 on my HackMini8,1.  Applied same methodology as I used for Beta 4 -> Beta 5.

EDIT: Synthetic metal benchmarks for my RX 560x were 10% lower immediately after upgrading from Tahoe Beta 5 -> Beta 6.  I needed to reboot 3x to restore full RX 560x metal performance (as measured by GeekBench 6).

I am running Sequoia 15.6 on the same machine and the picker has been able to keep the graphics updated so you never know.
