uidetiger
Thanks a lot. For the 10.4.8 DVD, this goes for JaS and everybody who helped on preparing this and finally to all of you. With the help of your comments I finally got my system working. I'm running 10.4.8 on a ASROCK 915GL with P4 3Mhz and Hyperthreading. I had to read through this thread to get graphics and network working properly. The network issue I solved copying the IONetworkingFamily.kext from my former installation, everything else didn't work out. For the graphics problems I had to delete the GMA950 related kexts. Afterwards I installed the GMA900 package, deleted the Extensions cache and repaired permissions. My XBench results are: Results 104.67 System Info Xbench Version 1.3 System Version 10.4.8 (8L2127) Physical RAM 1024 MB Model ACPI Drive Type Maxtor 6V300F0 CPU Test 71.68 GCD Loop 96.98 5.11 Mops/sec Floating Point Basic 77.02 1.83 Gflop/sec vecLib FFT 54.33 1.79 Gflop/sec Floating Point Library 70.91 12.35 Mops/sec Thread Test 104.69 Computation 84.12 1.70 Mops/sec, 4 threads Lock Contention 138.59 5.96 Mlocks/sec, 4 threads Memory Test 100.38 System 88.51 Allocate 65.81 241.66 Kalloc/sec Fill 125.75 6114.15 MB/sec Copy 93.06 1922.18 MB/sec Stream 115.92 Copy 116.96 2415.81 MB/sec Scale 117.18 2420.95 MB/sec Add 115.13 2452.48 MB/sec Triad 114.44 2448.25 MB/sec Quartz Graphics Test 95.23 Line 96.46 6.42 Klines/sec [50% alpha] Rectangle 96.18 28.72 Krects/sec [50% alpha] Circle 96.17 7.84 Kcircles/sec [50% alpha] Bezier 99.75 2.52 Kbeziers/sec [50% alpha] Text 88.37 5.53 Kchars/sec OpenGL Graphics Test 201.79 Spinning Squares 201.79 255.98 frames/sec User Interface Test 113.74 Elements 113.74 522.02 refresh/sec Disk Test 109.12 Sequential 120.41 Uncached Write 136.67 83.91 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 126.91 71.81 MB/sec [256K blocks] Uncached Read 97.88 28.65 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 128.08 64.37 MB/sec [256K blocks] Random 99.76 Uncached Write 76.37 8.08 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 117.24 37.53 MB/sec [256K blocks] Uncached Read 94.17 0.67 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 127.38 23.64 MB/sec [256K blocks] I now still have an issue with About this mac. It works but doesn't display a lot of information it formerly showed. As I read it wasn't necessary for me to install the JaS fix as I'm using an Intel based machine. Well, I will try to fix this and will keep you informed. Bye and thanks again
timsin
Installed fine after creating the partions and formating with 10.4.7 then loaded with 10.4.8 for the first time on a dell optiplex gx280 with sse3 enabled!!! Had to use sse2 patch b4... Only thing not working is ical and my realtek 8139 card. I also do not have a functioning kext for my x1600. my "about this mac" does not crash. Any ideas on the realtek problems? Would like to get back online...... I've got it working, I copied the IONetworkingfamily.kext from the 10.4.7, remove the installed one and copy to the 10.4.8, did chown -R root:wheel and chmod -R 755 on the file, reboot, now its working! Hope that helps
OzOSX86
thanks @ ual808 and as for you people who get that no smoking looking sign, i got the same thing for me, the issue was that my DVD drive was not master, it was slave, my cd drive was master to solve this, i opened up my cpu, unplugged my cd drive (power and serial) then plugged that plug into my DVD drive, power and serial, then it came up as master and install went Well after reading the 'fix' for the umpteenth time no I decided to try it with my DVD. Only catch was I must have turfed the original Jas 10.4.8 and had to download the fixed version. So I burnt it this morning and after setting my DVD to master (secondary IDE that is- now tell me using secondary IDE is an issue now!) I went for the DVD boot. Guess what same old no smoking sign 40 secs into the boot... So much for DVD master setting being the remedy for this issue.....next. consolation
to solve this, i opened up my cpu, How's working with that 90nm process? I'm being a smart ass, but, by this time you'd expect a grasp on basic computer terminology. It's almost my pet peeve; like people who refer to their computer cases as "hard drives." ual808
Good to go - DELL Dimension 3100C (i915) Cel-D 2.53G/1024MB/160GB-SATA Here is what I did. I left the following step for those who own 3100C and/or i915 users stuck somewhere. DVD+-RW drive is connected IDE (PATA) but I used USB2 external DVD drive. The result is the same (successful), so either one is ok. 1) Boot from DVD (Jas 10.4.8 Nov-3rd). 2) at Customize, check 10.4.8 Combo and GMA900 and mifki kernel if no check on mifki (semthex default) you may encounter 'kernel panic'. 3) When finished then boot from HD. Should be ok. 4) create account and choose time zone, etc. 5) edit /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist add 'fsb=133' after Kernel Flags (this is only for Cel-D)(P4/PenD users skip this) <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>fsb=133</string> 6) double click to run /System/Installer/Packages/Jas10.4.8GMA900....pkg This enable surely QE/CI. 7) reboot. 8) You should check QE/CI enabled and LAN works. 9) Still Hardware profile are error. but this is minor problem. copy /System/Library/SystemProfiler/SPPlatformReporter.spreporter from other working confirmed DVD or from working system into the HD (same location). 10) repair permissions on HD. 11) You can do softwareupdate. That's it. Still no sound? I know. I don't use onboard sound (Sigmatel9220 what a headache for me a long time). You can now install by yourseld from DVD. Just USB sound is fine for me. Good luck! openbysource
Hi all I am trying to boot from 10.4.8 SSE3 Patched DVD. It's not booting from mach_kernel (each time I do so it restarts the system). Then I tried booting from mach_kernel.mifki it gave some kernel panic. I have a Intel Centrino Duo laptop. I tried with this option too. mach_kernel.mifki -v cpus=1 But kernel panics at 3 kexts. I remember one of them named IOPCCARD something like that. Is there any fix for this thing. Can I install 10.4.8 on intel centrino duo laptop ? I have 10.4.7 working just fine (without sound). Please help. Regards
Rammjet
Be sure you are using the JaS 10.4.8 Intel SSE3 Only Reseed iso posted on Nov 3, 2006. Try booting with -v cpus=1 only (let it use the default Semthex kernel). Otherwise, use VMWare in Windows to install OSX. You don't need to use VMWare to run OSX after installing it. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=11314

cwestpha
Ok finaly got my new computer built (mm, 2 gigs of DDR2 and a Core2Duo) and am now trying to use this install DVD to get OS X on it like my old D865Pearl mobo. I now have a Intel D965WH with the GMA X3000 Integrated graphics on it. I encounter two problems with it whenever I try to boot the install DVD. It either hangs up right after ACPI: System State [s0 S3 S4 S5] (S3) or it hangs up at Waiting for boot volume with UUID ........ Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key>IOProviderClass</key><String ID="1">IOResources</String><Key>IOResourceMatch</Key><String ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict> This is pretty much true of either the Mifki or the defult modified kernel. Any ideas?

Rammjet
I need to install run the gma support pkg from the DVD but don't have the DVD. What DVD did you use to install prior to updating to 10.4.8?
higgsy
Initially I used the Myz DVD, however I checked and it's not on that. I then did subsequent updates to 10.4.6 & 7 with the Jas's updates. Which worked, I've since done the 10.4.8 with Jas's Intel SSE3 update and fixed it via: mount -uw / mv /system/library/exrensions/r2d2.kext /system/library/extensions/ The only issue I have is the blue and black blocks due to the GMA....... I can boot in via safe mode.. Tim
