munky
So I RMA'd my second MacBook last week, and have today received the refund. Question is, do I order ANOTHER one? Does anyone still think C2D is coming this year? Or even just a price change / speed bump? Or should I buy another manufacturer's laptop and run OSx86 on it? Or what? CoolBits
I would make some more money and go for a MacBook PRO... so your set for longer time...
munky
well, i get edu discount on the macbook, so its £704, which is all i have right now. the cheapest mbp is £928, (refurb 1.83ghz core duo) but even that is, what, £224 more? a new mbp is £1,241 for the cheapest one (with edu disc.) sandmanfvrga
Damn, refund? That is sad man. If I was you, I would just wait for the Core 2 Duo or get a refurb.
munky
a refurb what? i could just about afford a 20'' core duo imac w/ X1600... tempting tho my hackintosh has a 19'' monitor, pentium d920 and X1800, so it might be a bit dumb to do that, given that i'd then have no laptop. McSkywalker
One of my friends buys and sells used macs from time to time and he actually makes money from it Since it is usually easy to sell a mac for a decent price, why don't you go for the refurbished mbp? Suzuka
Maybe you should wait, I think core2duo MBs will come out soon
dark4181
^ditto... or wait until the core 2 duos are out, then buy a regular core duo macbook for a discounted price
rollcage
yeah, i'd wait for c2d. only downside is you might end up with more problems and have to go through more repairs. you might even make it to the next cpu upgrade before you get a machine that actually works. kevin_4e
Not that C2D will be real shocking to me, I'd still wait for it. One generation ahead of the out-dated ( or so it can seem). I don't think a MBP is really necessary, unless you feel it would fit you better. I think you'd agree with me that the MB runs pretty darn good (despite the 103 problems that may occur). Also, by the time C2D come around, most MB problems should be gone, or atleast I hope.
bofors
I think core2duo MBs will come out soon I don't and Yonah is not scheduled to die for another year: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=35389 This means that Apple could easily stick with it for twelve more months (and unless there is some other way to differentiate the MB's CPU from that of the MBP, Apple probably will and should use Yonah to drive MBP sales). munky
you mean Merom to drive MBP sales? ok, here's my latest thoughts: i can just about afford the refurb MBP (1.83Ghz Core Duo, 128Mb X1600, 80Gb HDD, Superdrive) if i sell my 120Gb hdd and one of the two 1Gb sticks i have. or i can buy another MB (1.83Ghz Core Duo, GMA950, combo drive) and put in my 120Gb HDD and 2x1Gb RAM so my choice is: MacBook Pro 1.83Ghz, SuperDrive, X1600 128Mb, 1Gb RAM, 80Gb HDD -or- MacBook 1.83Ghz, Combo Drive, GMA950, 2Gb RAM, 120Gb HDD All advice, help, constructive abuse gratefully received... munky
aberracus: relax - leopard will work on existing intel macs - only 64-bit programs will not work. i cant imagine any 64-bit only software i'd desperately need.
bofors
you mean Merom to drive MBP sales? I mean sticking the MB with Yonah to push people into buying an MBP instead. i can just about afford the refurb MBP (1.83Ghz Core Duo, 128Mb X1600, 80Gb HDD, Superdrive) if i sell my 120Gb hdd and one of the two 1Gb sticks i have. In that case, unless you really need something now, I would just wait for a reburbished C2D (Merom) MBPs to become available.

I'm going to ebay the 2x 1Gb sticks and the 120Gb HDD i had for the macbook to afford the MBP, but im going to grab another 512Mb stick for it to give me 1Gb of dual-channel. i'm also going to flog my two tucano macbook second skins and buy one for the pro
