spanakorizo
hi i have a question can i d/l and install the 10.4.8 AMD SSE3 update? my OSX is 10.4.6 GoatSecx release and my cpu is AMD64 3000+ SSE3 can i go from 10.4.6 directly to .8 with no problems? also the 4.6 is from goatsecx and not jas so maybe it is a problem? i have jas 10.4.7 but i removed it cause i had some problems with sound (mono) and "about mac" (restart) ... also with the jas 10.4.7 DVD my CPU was recognized as SSE2 only.now it says SSE3 thankz

ptesone
I tried installing the 10.4.8 AMD SSE3 Only Combo Update and it didn't seem to change anything- it still booted with just SSE2 at the top of the screen. . . so I now I'm using JaS 10.4.8 AMD SSE2 Only Combo Update and it seems to be fine. (pMr)dEATHiNjUNE
only two issues since updating --> the "0 MHz" "About This Mac" glitch and had to reinstall the Power Management fix. other than those two items everything seems well. thanks again JaS! edit: new issue --> DiskUtility reports about 4GB off from my actual free space in the negative direction.. not a major issue but wanted to toss that into the "known" glitch list. - Robert (pMr)dEATHiNjUNE

andrer
Combo SSE2 Update is not working here: JaS 10.4.5 -> 10.4.6 -> 10.4.7: working -> 10.4.8 SSE Combo update: system doesn't restart by install routine, hangs on shutdown -> manually shutdown (powered off / on) After manually reboot: - network not working, network-application shows dhcp is working - can't access the keyring-files with applications like mail - camino and safari are not working (can't start) - can't change to root with sudo or su (password isn't accepted) Manually reboot: System is booting into finder, but CPU at 100% and can only move the mouse cursor Manually reboto into safe mode (-v -f -x): su & finder are working. So installed combo update again. reboot into standard mode works. and again: System is booting into finder, but CPU at 100% and can only move the mouse cursor Any hints? andrer
when I open a shell during finder loads all items, I CAN change to root with su. I saw with "top", that two instances of kextcache are using nearly 100% CPU time for two minutes. diskutil isn't working in this mode (no disk or window activity after started verify/repairPermissions) After that, I can't open another shell instance and can't access any key-files or cleanup the trashcan. I can only do this in safe mode. I've repaired the Permission in safe mode, but diskutil isn't showing the updates files, only says done.
Ritz Carltn
Combo SSE3 Update is not working here: JaS 10.4.7 with Koverg's patch for QE/CI. : working Good. Clean H.D.D and reinstall JaS 10.4.7 : working Good. -> 10.4.8 SSE3 Combo update: Good. -> Reboot O.K. After reboot: - Replace ATIRadeon9700.Kext that pached by Koverg's pach for QE/CI. - remove kextcache and mkext File. - kextcache to /System/Library/Extensions/ Manually reboot as normal: Black screen with Mouse cursor. - (powered off / on) Manually reboot into safe mode (-v -f -x): Booting is O.K. But, no QE/CI. Repaired Disk Permissions. Reboot Again into Normal mode (-v): Black Screen with Mouse Cursor. I think this is related with Koverg's patch or QE/CI. Any Ideas? JaS.10.4.8.SSE3.Intel.Only.Combo.Update_o-Demonoid.com-o.torrent JaS_10.4.8_Update_SSE3_Intel_Only-[[Demonoid.com]].torrent The first is a combo updater - it updates 10.4.4 thru 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 The second is a delta updater - it updates 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 Both are only for Intel (not AMD) processors with SSE3. vinlar
iWeb is not functioning for me with JaS.10.4.8.SSE2.Intel.Only.Combo.Update. The application opens up, but the web pages do not display in the editing window. Is this an SSE2-only phenomena or a 10.4.8 phenomena?
sptrading
I did the updates to my two laptops this morning, going from 10.4.5, to 10.4.8. Generally it all seems to work well, I even noticed my broadcom wireless adapter turn up on the desktop, however, I have a couple of issues with Safari (only on one pc - a lenovo 3000 c100) and iMail on both. Safari on the Lenovo (Celeron M) keeps crashing, not a biggy, as I can use mozilla. iMail appears to work, but when I try to reply or create an email, the to and cc boxes are only about 1mm in height and impossible to enter any information. I am guessing this could be because I jumped from 10.4.5 to 10.4.8 using the Intel SSE2 patch? Any ideas anyone (I can provide a screen grab of iMail if this would help)? (After a little playing around I can tell you: 1. It's raining here, so the inclination to do anything else is fairly small. 2. iMail works under rosetta, but is painfully slow. 3. I renamed iMail and Safari to iMail-10.4.8 and Safari-10.4.8 and reinstalled the respective programs off the 10.4.6 disk, these work well, I'm not sure what 10.4.8 version give me..) 4. Given that iMail works under rosetta, I am wondering if more programs are coming with these SSE3 commands that aren't working correctly? ) Rob Rob, I want to thank you!! I was also having problems with IMail, but I wasn't sure if it was me messing around with Imail or the update. I was creating a new account and the To: CC: boxes were fine, then without warning, the hight would change to 1mm and render Imail useless. The 10.4.8 version is v2.1.1 and the 10.4.6 version is v2.0.6. For your info, I updated from 10.4.6 to 10.4.8. Appart from Imail, everything else seems ok. As a newbie I didn't even think about reinstalling the old version, replacing the new one. Many thanks for the idea. Happy user now!! P.S. My first post here, and what an amazing place this forum is. Thank you so much guys for getting me hooked into Macs. I am now 100% going to buy a Mac to replace my 4yr old Dell.
sonyed
I read all your messages and unfortunately I didn't find anyone that updated from 10.4.3 to 10.4.8 on SSE2. However, is it possible...as Apple support site says... "The combo update installer for PowerPC and Intel-based Macs (described here) updates Mac OS X 10.4, 10.4.1, 10.4.2, 10.4.3, 10.4.4, 10.4.5, 10.4.6, or 10.4.7 to 10.4.8."
