Hi, My name is Plnr, and I would like to be able to post on various topics and doubts related to Hackintosh, which I have been a proud owner of in some form or the other. Tahoe being the last version that could be installed, I wanted to share my experiences and enhance my knowledge of what has been a very interesting journey.

One thing that I wanted to discuss was how after struggling to boot Tahoe on my Rx580 system for 3 days, finally managed to boot beta 1, only after replacing the Rx580 with my son's Rx6600, tested the rig and promptly forgot about it because I am using sequoia on my Hack. But out of curiousity I updated to beta 2 a few days, using the same EFI and also Rx6600, but now it would not boot. After trying in vain for another two days, I randomly took an EFI from this forum and boom. It booted and to add to my surprise when I replaced the 6600 with RX580 it worked even better. More importantly my audio with AppleALC seems to have become better than with sequoia. I wanted to post this on the Tahoe forum but I can't, being a newcomer. Here is the link to the EFI zip.

For all those struggling with tahoe and Rx580, booting off of the USB can be really challenging given that Polaris driver support was most likely introduced in the beta 2 version. Either have some patience and wait for the third beta or you could
1. Disable the dGPU and use the iGPU as the primary display output during installation. After boot, you can switch to the dGPU for rendering purposes if needed. To enable the iGPU correctly, you must configure the appropriate device-propertiesin your config.plist using a headless framebuffer (e.g., AAPL,ig-platform-id) so that macOS recognizes the iGPU as active without using it for display output.

  • Use a platform ID such as 0x3E980003(please confirm)  for Coffee Lake iGPUs in headless mode.

  • Ensure igpu is enabled in BIOS with DVMT Pre-Allocated set to at least 64MB or 128MB.

  • The dGPU should be properly disabled via boot-args or device-properties to avoid conflicts.

2. You could loan out a 6600 or equivalent for installation purpose if avaiable and then change over to 580 the everything works out of the box, which is the path I took because my son had a 6600 on his gaming rig.

Still not sure why i cannot post, maybe i should ask Chris or maldon, ive been using this forum for years and cannot understand why the login now requires an email where as in the past you logged in with your username and password the information was then sent to you via email

in the past i posted as fuzzylogic . On setting up this new account, we have to read the rules, (done) post to a moderator to ask for further information (done) but no one furbishes me with an answer?

Hi Cyberdevs, and thank you for your reply i did send an email to Allan but so far (posted yesterday) no reply. I was just concerned about why there is no option only in the new users lounge regarding being able to post, I dont appear to have any issues on Maldons website or Chris

I wished to know in picker the option to install Tahoe does not appear, i have been a hackintosh user since the days of Clover config and when opencore was introduced followed along that line. I know that picker is dependant upon HfsPlus.efi or its variant Open HfsPlus.efi

I have used hackintool to create my usb ssdt-uiac.aml.

in the past i have installed all flavors of mac and they appear in boot picker, using one of chris's many flavors, and all the installed os are present in boot picker apart from Tahoe. I then took the same usb flash drive and did a direct install of Taho on my macbook pro m2 without any issues so i know that the usb flash drive does contain Tahoe and it installs on a real mac, so conclude that the issue is around the EFI folder further research took me to what installs Taho into boot picker and came across some issues around either HfsPlus.efi or OpenHfsPlus.efi.

I know that HfsPlus.efi belongs to apple thus came along OpenHfsPlus.efi, naturally in the correct folder (driver for efi) and Apic for ssdt

@oslogic2 You're welcome.

Allan will respond to your email and sort out your previous account's issue, the reason that you cannot post anywhere except few topics is explained here:

In the meanwhile you can create a topic in New User's Lounge section and post your issue there and ask for help until the issue with your account is resolved.

@eSaF Hi and thank you for kindly replying, I am a seasoned hackintosh break it and fix it user, that's the best way to learn. I have the installer in the applications folder (Mac OS Tahoe) and installed it to the usb thumb drive, I tried the usb thumb drive on my MacBook Pro m2 and Tahoe installed without issue. I am then left with why doesn't the EFI folder show in my boot options (going into the bios select the usb drive to boot from) picker launches and shows the other installed Mac OS such as Sonoma, Monterey, Sequentia, which are all on sep nvme flash drives each having their own EFI.

I will give the windows install a try but I am rather stuck with regard to why picker does not show Tahoea as a boot install option, normally this situation happens when HfsPlus.efi is missing or OpenHfsPlus.efi

but thank you and I will certainly give the windows version a try, its a pity over the years since we have posted in this forum asking questions and solutions section doesn't appear to exist I appreciate that motherboards and cpus change but it would have been a useful library. I believe over time the issue I have raised may have come from the fact that apple own HfsPlus.efi and that along came OpenHfsPlus.efi and it may be that the versions of opencore are looking for OpenHfsPlus.efi, so when HfsPlus.efi is used open core does not see it? after all the efi are drivers? just a thought

Is HideAuxiliary enabled in the config? If it is then when you get to the picker press the space bar and you should see the USB installer to boot from.

No, i have checked that and also tried the space bar just in case here is the screen for the boot picker that does not show install os mac Tahoe in the picker list see below

I have tried openHfsPlus.efi  instead of HfsPlus.efi

@eSaF Hi and a big thankyou, yes regarding formatting the drive correctly ironically if you look at the command prompt above "Ready to Start" formatting the usb drive do you wish to begin, makes a mockery of the process which we all do and which we do by habit that is to say the correct partitioned Map. No i probably go back further than most on here early intel platform macs and what we now call hackintosh had alot of limits in what would work, hacks have come a long way , thats not to say we do miss things at times so its important to check in but its all about figuring it out finding out what works and why.

I appreciate you coming back to me, its nice when we can help others, it will probably be something silly, thats usually the case, i may try another flash drive to rule out issues but i have used it in the past as an installer just to rule that out too

thankyou

I need some clarification regarding my Hackintosh, with the following hardware, and with AppleALC.kext and the audio is working perfectly on beta 2. If AppleHDA has been removed then why is my audio working via HDMI.

1. Intel 7700
2. RX 580
I use my hackintosh primarily for Logic Pro and if the audio gets disabled in future betas, then I would be severely hamstrung.

Thanks in advance.

still no picker option to install Tahoe

I went out and bought another flash drive and even tried an app to install Tahoe but again nothing in picker bootloader

I did get one message when i used an app Tinu, which suggests that applications path was depreciated, despite the positive result from the app the installer failed to show Tahoe as an install option, will continue on with a different os to try and understand what is going on

Hi @oslogic2.  Check your OC theme folder and make sure you have icns for Tahoe.  These need to be named "Apple26" instead of "Apple16" to show on the OC main menu eg ...

Attached my OC Resources folder.  Tahoe icons are from Flavours-FadeDisk set done @chris1111's OC theme github.

Good luck!
