Hello,

I'd had a prior account under another name from 20 or so years ago, but it seems that has fallen into the ether at some point.  Just re-joining with my currently established user name.

Welcome back!

I think @Allan or @fantomas can resolve your old account's issue.

I appreciate the welcome.  I'm not worried about the old account as I'd never posted anything with it anyway.  At some point I'd like to offer some help regarding a thread discussing some approaches with conditionally defined devices in ACPI which are later referenced unconditionally - resulting in the DSDT (and anything that relies on it) being rejected.  There appear to be a few tools that attempt to work around that problem, though I'm not sure they're going about it in the safest or least affecting manner - as it's considered best practice to make only the changes that are required to ACPI tables, and no more.

I've personally automated the process already, but my project is currently private as it runs the risk of users causing more problems if they use the tool without understanding the underlying process.

The thread in question is this one:

Sure thing,

The thing is the Just Joined group don't have access to lots of forum's sections unless they get enough valid points to insure they are not spammers so it's better to consult with the admins on that regard so you will be able to post comments in all threads.

Yeah - I read that when I created this account.  I believe after 10 or so messages (assuming they're approved ofc), I would get access to the main forum sections?  Regardless, I'm in no rush - so whatever works for the mod/admin team here works for me.

That's what I've only automated the search for potential issues in the DSDT, and assumes a knowledgeable user to then analyse and act appropriately… But debate is good, and i'd welcome being proven wrong.

Looking forward to your insights when you're allowed out of the sandbox.

If all your script does is gather potential issues and rely on the end user to move forward, I see no issue with that.  I was under the impression that there was a script in that thread that generated renames and patches for devices based specifically on whether or not they're defined conditionally.  My apologies.

The code that I've put together scans the DSDT for conditionally defined devices that are later unconditionally referenced - and allows either patching out the if statement(s) gating those devices, or to noop the unconditional scope sets.  In most cases, 1-2 ACPI patches are all that are required in order to patch out conflicts and prevent the macOS ACPI parser from rejecting the table.  I've documented examples of the manual approach that my script automates a few times regarding nooping if statements if you would consider that helpful (e.g. here: https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/1dsze5i/help_needed/lbgkd6a/).  I do agree that the most important part of this equation is a knowledgeable user - and I feel there is too little written about this topic currently.

Hi guys, I was a registered user a long time ago, but one day I couldn't log in, so I registered again. When I first registered here, I was already using hackintoshes and had commented a few times, but now I am a newly registered user and am just only reading.

Now I have been using Sequoia, and have installed Tahoe.

Glad to be with you all again, guys.
