thedguy
Those who are running 10.4.8, how did you install? I am running 10.4.7 and interested in running 10.4.8. System Specs: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 WD HD (could that be problem?) I cannot get the Jas 10.4.8 DVD to boot. I get a "waiting for root device error." People with 10.4.8: Did you use the DVD or upgrade? Could you detail the process? Same board, I'm using a seagate 160gig. SATA converter on my nec nd-3550a, both connected to the ICH8 chipset ports. I've had Native mode enabled and disabled, didn't seem to matter. I noticed I had issue's with finding drives depending on what ports I had them hooked to. Anything on the lower 2 ports wasn't being detected with 10.4.8. General note to everyone when installing... Don't install the 10.4.8 usb fix it doesn't work Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26858-gigabyte-ga-965p-ds3-thread/page/15/#findComment-237046 Share on other sites
Conroe Mac
Here's my computer trying to boot the 10.4.8 disc. I will try to update the firmware on my DVD-Rom drive. I have tried plugging in every combination of SATA spots for the HD and DVD-Rom drive. I have tried them with SATA Native 0-3 on and off. I have tried moving the jumper on the disc drive, but not all of the positions yet. There is something strange about this kernel that doesn't recognize my disc drive, while the old kernel does. I have also tried installing 10.4.8 by updating, but I haven't had success that way either. I may try that route again, but I have a feeling that until the 10.4.8 disc boots, I haven't solved the problem. Download JAS DVD 10.4.8 and install from a USB dvd-rom.If you plan to use OSX get a second HD only for OSX. I may have to try USB instead of IDE converted to SATA. Conroe Mac
A.I. Ghost: I'm not sure what you mean. My problem has nothing to do with networking. thedguy
BTW, the 10.4.8 disk uses the Semthex kernel. But whats odd is it still works for most of us. Since I don't see your boot screen loading any IDE/SATA drivers, even if you used an IDE/usb converter I'm not sure you'll see your hd. It could be a case of not seeing your drives, and therefore not loading the drivers. I don't know I'm stumped. Conroe Mac
At this point, I'm thinking it is a hardware problem. DVD-Rom Drive SATA converter I am hoping that it is not caused by my burning. I've burned 5 discs now. The thing that makes me uneasy is that occasionally I am getting a SAM Multimedia error. That points to the possibility of a bad disc (or at least to a problem reading the disc which could be located in the DVD-Rom drive or SATA converter). Perhaps I should try a different burning program and see if that makes a difference. Then I suppose the next logical step is: Use a different DVD Rom drive Use a USB connection Use a different SATA Converter Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26858-gigabyte-ga-965p-ds3-thread/page/15/#findComment-237695 Share on other sites

Everytime he shows I'm I want to kick him in the head! If you can, burn on a different system with a different drive and better media... and I use nero and tell it to verify the disc after burning. Personally I'd say get a USB converter and a different DVD drive. If I have trouble again with this sata adapter, I'm just gonna ditch it and put the DVD back on the IDE channel, and run usb-ide when needed. After I burned 10.4.8 I was getting a SAM error and the osx disc check came back bad, but it still seems to work, and I haven't had any issue's with SAM lately. Conroe Mac, I've got exactely the same problem.."still waiting for root device" and SAM...with the Jas 10.4.8 DVD (reseed version) I noticed that I've got the same IDE-SATA adapter than you (transparent little case).....it may be the cause of the problem ! This adpater has some issues with windows too, i can't read any disc when I plug it, but I can still boot my CDs...(hein hein ?!? like we say in french...) I'm using a Pioneer DVR-111 burner for information I will try to use an other adapter (USB) to install the OS, cos' I tried everything, with all combination possible as you did... Conroe Mac
I thought I had a good solution to the converter question, but perhaps I was wrong. Those who have installed 10.4.8, which SATA converter (or USB converter) did you use? luh3417
Has anyone had any luck with a straight 10.4.8 install into a DS4 or DQ6? Like tomazzzzzzzzzzz my system hangs on the reboot at the end of the install. Mouse freezes. But my HD is not empty. About 7GB did get installed on the hard disk. just to let you know that the Gigabyte GA965P-DQ6 doen t work with the tutorial i m able to see the HD, format it & part it but after the install the computer hang when it s about to reboot ( after the optimisation when it says " your computer will reboot in 24 secondes") and the HD is empty !! Here is my hackintosh: Gigabyte GA965P-DS4 Maxtor 80GB SATA, manufactured December 2005, in first Purple SATA port External ATA - USB 2.0 DVD drive JaS.10.4.8.Intel.SSE3.Only ASUS 7300GT graphics E6600 All virgin. First install. SATA RAID/AHCI: Disabled SATA Port 0-3 Native Mode: Enabled Onboard SATA/IDE Control Mode: AHCI Now that we've reached the 10.4.8 milestone, it would be interesting to see a guide for a straight virgin 10.4.8 install, that edits out all the crooked paths taken to get this far. I mean, it should be pretty simple nowadays, though maybe the DS4 and DQ6 have a glitch. Here were the two Genius Bar guides I found. http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/index.php/f45.html http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/i...php/t28439.html Shouldn't it be as simple as, set the bios, use the purple plugs, install and select SSE3, reboot and install pion, get a new kernel from IRC, done. Actually having read all 19 pages of posts I'm kind of spun on the final 10.4.8 word on the purple/orange and SATA/PATA stuff. USB DVD works great. Anyone else having this end-of-install freeze? Any ideas? Can I do some kind of verbose install to get a clue about where its hanging? Packages I'm offered (I selected only the first one) INTEL.SSE3 semthex INTEL.SSE3 mifki 10.4.8.GMA900.950.Support Soundblaster Sigmatel VIA ATI.ATA What is the difference between the DS3 and DS4? Maybe I should disable the 1394. The DS3 has 1 PCIe slot and the DS4 has 2 and also has dual BIOS, and a heat pipe (and 1394?). Someone suggested the DS4 has an ICH8R instead of an ICH8, and that I need to edit the plist. I haven't used a mac in 10 years. Can I edit the plist (which one?) before the hang at the end of the install? Actually when I launch additional install attempts, I see the old install there, maybe I can boot the install disk again then tweak the plist from the terminal? I found plist editing instructions here http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...he_boot_options Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26858-gigabyte-ga-965p-ds3-thread/page/15/#findComment-241226 Share on other sites
thedguy
Conroemac: I'm running a Rosewill RC-204. I can't recommend it on the basis that it's very picky about what it will work with, and it's not consistant. The DVD drive I have it finally working (decent) with, others claim doesn't work at all. I tried 4 drives before I found a working one. Has anyone had any luck with a straight 10.4.8 install into a DS4 or DQ6? Like tomazzzzzzzzzzz my system hangs on the reboot at the end of the install. Mouse freezes. But my HD is not empty. About 7GB did get installed on the hard disk. What is the difference between the DS3 and DS4? Maybe I should disable the 1394. I found plist editing instructions here http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...he_boot_options The hanging at the end of the install is because the kernel doesn't work properly with out boards on the 10.4.8 disc. My system and my brothers Abit aw8d board both don't reboot once done installing, but it does finish. Just push the reset button. The latest semthex kernel fixes the issue on an installed system. I've got some more editing to do to my guide, and one of them is change the bios settings. It seems 10.4.8 once done installing won't run on the ICH8 ports with the ICH8 patch if "SATA Native mode" is disabled. It just gets a waiting for root device error. The difference between the DS3 and DS4 is the fact that the DS4 has ICH8R. Your board has raid. I really have no idea how much that plays. But someone else mentioned they had to add a dev/vendor id to one of the kexts for the ICH8 patch to work properly. If your hooked upto the Purple JmB ports with your HD install the JaS.10.4.8.VIA.ULi.SATA.support package. You'll also want 10.4.8.azalia.audio.pkg if you plan to get your audio working. Unfortunately it's just not possible to get a fully working OSX86 setup with these boards without tweaking the disc. JaS can only account for so much hardware, and ours wasn't completely included, if he did all the combonations he'd never get a release out. If I knew more about messing with OSX discs I'd be tempted to make a ppf patch to include the proper fixes on the disc. -Dustin PS. Whatever combo of bios settings and hacks you use to get your board working, let us know. I'll add what I find works to the tutorial. luh3417
Your guide is the one at http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/i...php/t28439.html I didn't see any ICH8 patch as an option during the initial install. SATA native mode is ENABLED. I'm prepared to believe my install is finished. But when I try to boot straight off the installed hard disk, it hangs in the BIOS at PCI Devices Listing. If your not using any drives on those ports, than they shouldn't be any kind of an issue. From what I can tell either your bios isn't set up properly to boot from the HD, or you don't have a boot loader (which should install automatically). luh3417
I had changed the first boot device from USB CDROM to Hard Disk. The BIOS mentions the hard disk, then hangs after the PCI Devices Listing. I'm not doing dual boot or anything fancy. Just a machine with one dedicated hard disk in it. I formatted it using the Mac disk utility on the DVD. It then does the install, which hangs at the end, then I reset, and end up here. I'm not using the Orange SATA ports, the install does not see the hard disk at all when I do that. Not sure how much we're allowed to discuss here but I only see one 10 4 8 on torrents, when I search on torrentz.com "JAS 10.4.8 OSx86 10.4.8 Patched DVD SSE3 Software". Should I go ask on #OSx86?
