dponmac
With The option of 4 SATA drive, 4 PCI-X Video Cards, and the option of upgrading to 3.0 ghz of a brand new Xeon chip, I'm wondering how Apple plans on keeping these things cool. cyrana
I'm assuming since they gutted the insides that it won't be a problem. If it was a huge problem, they'd have left the case similar to the prior version, right? Swad
I bet they'll run alright, since Conroe takes up less juice and doesn't get as hot. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23898-mac-pros-overheating/#findComment-158851 Share on other sites
bofors
I think a better poll question would have been: "Are the Mac Pro's going to be afflicted with some annoying problem typical of Rev. A Apple products?" "If so what?" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23898-mac-pros-overheating/#findComment-158855 Share on other sites

Takuro
Steve emphasized during the keynote that the Mac Pro ran considerably cooler than the PowerMac G5. That's initially the reason why they could afford to strip the case of most of its fans and redesign the inside for lots of upgrades. I have a feeling you could run the machine maxed out with 4 hard drives and 8x 2GB sticks of ram with 4 video cards, and it still wouldn't overheat. Xeons run pretty cool. iDerf2006
Err..the Mac Pros use Xeons, not Conroe.. It runs Woodcrest, which is an Xeon product based on the same architecture as the Core2Duo. It's a souped up Core2Duo, is all it is. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23898-mac-pros-overheating/#findComment-159122 Share on other sites

Exactly which translates to lower heat, something that the MB and MBP will need to have in due time. They are woodcrest which means that they can work in quad configs whereas the conroe can not. My thoughts are what will happen when AMD gets to SOI .65 and smaller. A Nonny Moose
I think it's a matter of when the RAM will overheat due to poorly placed heat sinks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23898-mac-pros-overheating/#findComment-160207 Share on other sites
