SABR-

I'll let you know if I have success as soon as I try.. right now things are looking very good.. I expect to be up and running perhaps tonight or tomorrow... If that happens, I'll be sure to post here...

What did you use? A USB DVD drive? Or IDE to SATA converter?

I used an ide to usb converter and installed OSX on my DS3 (well not really, i quit at 80% or something because this thing was so f#@ng slow i couldn't stand it - probably the DVD-Rom with the crappy converter).

I would really like to have OSX on my core 2 duo but i already know that graphics will not be accelerated (7600GT), kernel is from build 10.4.5 and other things like power management (monitor sleep, restarts etc) will not function properly so i don't really care if it installs or not.

Waiting for leopard.

Haha, it was so slow because you used an IDE to USB. USB probably doesn't have as fast of a connection as IDE/SATA.

Do you think an IDE to SATA would work ok?

It should.

I mean the hard disk on the sata (ich8) controller is identified by osx, the dvd-rom should too.

Ok, I think I'll go ahead and buy one in the near future. When do you think Intel P965 Chipset's will be used in Mac's?

Probably with the launch of leopard we will see updated mac's.

That's next year though, right?

Anyway, I went ahead and bought this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IDE-Ultra-ATA-100-13...1QQcmdZViewItem

Supports Mac OS 8.6 and above, so I should be ok. I'll let you know how I get on.

Slightly off topic, but what's the best way to get an X1800XT working on OSx86? Want to get everything ready...

I have started a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 thread in the "Hardware" section.

Please add to it if you have more information. I will be adding more when I learn more.

Two channel sound is now working on Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3. Check above thread for more info.

Nice Work Conroe Mac. As soon as I get my IDE to SATA convertor, we can try working on this motherboard to get it fully supported! :)

Hi. I finally got everything I ordered (it took a while to get the e6600).

I got the asus p5wdh, ocz 800 DDR2, nvidia 7300GT ecc...

Anyway I installed everything, but osx (or linux) does not recognize any IDE HD installed on the Jmicron IDE connector. (The DVD is on the ICH7R connector).

Only Windoze. It sees it as a SCSI disk, though.

I could install osx on external HD, but everything is veery slooow.

Do you have a solution? Beside buying a SATA HD?

Buy an IDE to SATA convertor. They are like $10 off eBay. :)

Done, now it works. I realized that both osx and linux do not recognize the Jmicron IDE connector of p5w dh. This may be useful for some others who want to use the same board.

Now I only have to solve the problem with the mb temperature (47 deg. Celsius after some light use) and then I'll have my hackintosh working.

Some update:

I can install everything, but the system does not boot (I am using JaS 10.4.6).

If I try to reinstall the CD recognizes that everything was installed, but still no boot.

Moreover: the system profiler recognizes the e6600, but says 3.8 GHz.

The ASUS DRW-1608P3 is not recognized as a DVD burner.

My system:

Core 2 Duo E6600 // 4x 512 mb OCZ gold @ 800 // P5W DH Deluxe // DVDRW ASUS DRW-1608P3 // nvidia 7300GT // 250Gb Samsung sata2 7200

Hardware:

- Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi (965)

- Conroe 6600

- SATA DVD-player

So, finally i got a SATA-DVDplayer. Now the DVD boots and i see the apple-logo. But it freezes and nothing happens. I´ ve tried this with OSX 1ß.4.7 JAS.

Should i do something before i boot from DVD (some settings or else)?

Thanks :D

I think you need to disable some settings in the BIOS, such as SATA Native mode... :P

I finally made it! (Almost)

The os boots , I updated to 10.4.7 and everything is ok, sound is working, only I have 1024x768 as resolution.

So I tried to edit com.apple.Boot.plist adding

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>"1440x900x32@60"</string>

I also used the macvidia pkg.

Now the machine boots, but then the monitor becomes black and says frequency not recognized.

I thought, OK, I reboot with the CD and change the Boot.plist.

Well, to my surprise the screen becomes black also when booting from the installer.

Also, the installer does not take anymore the F8 options (-x -v).

What can I do?????

About the system profiler: the e6600 is still recognized as 3.8 GHz.

The ASUS DRW-1608P3 is working (forget my previous comment).

replace the Boot.plist from the installer DVD, but still the screen says unrecognized frequency... I guess it's because of the MacVidia drivers.

What I do not understand is why my graphic card is not recognized from the start.

It should be the same as in the mac pro...
