MacWannaBe
Sorry for the delay. I tried everything that was suggested including, unplugging the hard drives. You should be able to get into the bios without them correct? And CohPhasor i agree 100% the back up bios should have worked. I scanned the manual a thousand times. Anyway here is where i am at right now. After filling out a questuonaire on gigabyte website they agreed there is something wrong with the board, so they already sent me an RMA, and i already shipped it back. Now i have an important question. I have 2 drives with data i really dont want to lose. One drive has 10.6.4 with the Stell's V3 installer, the other has 10.6.3 with the Stell's v3 installer. After I get the board back and assembled, what would be the best coarse of action to save at least one of the drives, they are cloned drives. Should i just set up the bios as originally done? And go through the install set up thumb drive? the reason why i am asking is that i read somewhere on this thread that the restart fix is no longer needed. And i am not familiar on how to get it out of the package that it is in. My extension folders dont have individual kexts in it. It has one mkext with them combined. So would i be able to use cakewalk instead of the v3 installer. what would you suggest? And sorry for the confusion. thanks for your help. jbolted If your drives were fine, then I'd set up the BIOS as per the lifehacker page and boot off the 10.6.4 drive. If you really had a HW issue with the board, then the drive should be good to go right? All other parts are the same. That's what I'd try first. Good luck. I have aquestion about flashing the bios for a gigabyte bios. If my board is sent back had FB on it. Now to get to FE, it gives you 2 options for flashing the board. One of which requires havings a working windows instalation of which i dont have. The other say to put the downloaded file on a fat32 partition. OK i have another 2 gb falsh drive, i donwloaded the .exe file to gfalsh it. But it says to ectract the bios file to the .xxx file first. I cant figure out how to extract the exe file to get to .xxx of the bios file.... This is in the manual for the EP45-uD3p board. What are any of your provedures of flashing a bios who does not have windows? That would be very helpful. In case they send it back with FB still on it. which was the start of all of my problems in the first place. Gigabyte had no info on flashing a bios with a hackintosh method for obvious reasons. Thanks jbolted I wondered this very damn thing, and it came down to, I had to install Winblows just to get the BIOS out of the damn exe and put onto a flash drive. I might say, use a friends computer with windows, extract the bios and put it on your flash drive there. That was the quickest and easiest way when I updated my BIOS from the BIOS updater, not from within Windows. I have particularly never liked the idea of flashing from within windows, ick... lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/72/#findComment-1497030 Share on other sites

I can go to the library, they have windows computers there, I'll bring my 2 gb fash drive already formatted toi Fat32. just one question on the procedure. Do i need a specific program on windows to exrtact the file. Or does windows come with a program that will do that for you. I know little about windows, but i do know if I double click the .exe file it is just going to try to install the program. Or is that what you did? Did you just double click the exe and point it to your falsh drive? Becuase i know 1 thing for sure i am not messing around with fb anymore, & I want to make sure of the cartis bios before i brick my new board. At least the cartis bios has a folder with the bios already extracted, and ready for qflash. I just rather get up and running on FE for now. I guess eventually we will all have to move to cartis bios becasue i heard that stell is not making any new installers. So theoretically, once i get the bios straightened out i should be able to use the drives with the OS's i have on there now, providing they are not hosed too, right? All the exe does is extract out the BIOS. Its a self contained unzip utility if you will. Basically double clicking it unpacks the files you need. Just put everything onto the flash and select it in the BIOS update. Don't know if the library computer will work for you, they might have some restrictions in place preventing you from downloading, or opening the exe, or both! thepretender
@Jbolted There must me somewhere on the internet that people have the same board. You could nicely ask there. Something like "I don't have a windows computer at the moment to get the FE bios out of the .exe could someone email it to me or host and link. I would appreciate it. Thanks." I bet that would work. If you could only find such a place. AkronElliott
After running the Cartri installation, would I keep the LifeHacker thumb drive installer "as/is" for just booting purposes in the future and use Carbon Copy Cloner to restore the image if something happens? In the future I may create a machine for a friend or two, so with my current environment I would: 1. Create a new Thumbdrive installer using Kakewalk and their copy of Snow Leopard. 2. Run the Kakewalk installer from the thumb drive on new machine and then run the Cartri installer? 3. Update to the latest release Any feedback would be appreciated. Cartri Bios comes with it's own installer for our specific mobo, (EP45UD3P) including Chameleon RC5. I ran the installer before updating the bios,it adds fakesmc.kext and LegacyHDA.kext to /Extra/Extension/ removing smbios.plist and.apple.Boot.plist (not needed) Cartri is working with Blackosx on a boot cd, which will make LifeHacker v3 installer obsolete. If you had VoodooPowerMini.kext , just delete it and speed step works perfectly dropping cpu temps a few degrees. Startup and shutdown/restart is a little quicker. Please consider supporting cartri if you do use this bios Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/72/#findComment-1498588 Share on other sites

The PDF is confusing in this regard, as that information is after all the installation steps. So to summarize, for us V3 people. 1) Rename our V3 "Extra" folder to "EXTRA_your_momz" 2) Run the catri installer on our boot drive 3) reboot and start the bios upgrade process as per the pdf 4) boot into OSX and and have lower temps, etc... delete the "EXTRA_your_momz" folder. Correct? or did I miss something? Carbon Copy your main drive and run the Cartri installer on the copy, You then could boot off that copy if something happens to your main drive. 1. Yes 2. Run the kakewalk installer and instead of the Kakewalk installer just run the Cartri installer no need to do both. 3. Yes but use the combo updater as your system is a hybrid of MacPro 3 and 4 software update could leave out something, Using the combo updater is safest. As you've been told a Cartri boot CD is in the works but any efi boot cd that will get you to the point of installing SL will do just fine. Sweet Think I may have to give this ago Any downsides so far Some trepidation on flashing a bios. Boot is faster no time to get beverage while computer is booting. Less stuff (kext files) you find and tinker with so you will have more time to do actual work. That's about it on the downsides. Correct? or did I miss something? I have taken the plunge, and the water feels fine! Cartri BIOS in full effect. It was a little stressful. It never showed the bootloader screen. It turns out my boot order was not right after the flash and was not trying to boot off the drive with chameleon. Had to edit the BIOS settings for just that. Then followed the pdf. Changes: I copied my old theme from my previous Extra folder to the one made by the cartri installer since the built-in theme was all stretched in my 24" monitor. Added the IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext to get the stock hard disk icons back. Results: 1) Super simple kext config 2) Runs way cooler 3) Geekbench went up to 8211. AWESOME. Save your /Extra folder then delete the original. Run the Cartri installer and flash the Bios. If you don't like the results its easy to go back. Run Stella's v3 installer replace /Extra with you saved on if it differs from Stella's and flash the bios back to FE and your back. Without com.Apple.boot.plist, no bootloader comes up. Try this, once you see DMI success press and hold the space key you should then see the Chameleon screen. The space where you input boot options will be elongated and look odd but you will have your choices.
