Have you deleted previous versions of the bootloaders before updating them? as I see you mentioned you tried a few, and wondering if there is a possible conflict. I can totally understand, I would be pissed off as well. I might recommend this... Do a clean install (on a separate partition) but use the full 10.6.3 install disc, if you do not have one, you can get one from the green demon. The full 10.6.3 installer has added support for numerous options, and try going with the Kakewalk bootloader from the start. I just found the kakewalk installer today, and going to give that a try, as Stella has said on his blog that he will not be making another update for it. Considering he does not even have the board, and we all here will need some support for an installer. I sent a friendly message to the guy that makes it to see if he will keep supporting it for the time being, and if so I might recommend to everyone here, to maybe throw a euro or two his way for support, he is in Sweden. I looked into the Catri BIOS at one point, and contacted the guy behind it wishing to help with our specific board, but got a really weird reply that was cryptic and rude. Plus you still need to have a bootloader for EFI/GPT support. I am simply not gonna screw with my BIOS on this one, don't want to brick the board. scorcho
Man what a fun time it was (miserable, but fun). Wouldn't you know it? I forgot to make a back-up of my system disk and am currently waiting for another HD to come so that I can create a second boot disk. Well...I had to remaster SL onto my usb drive and reinstall lifehacker's extensions. Brought me to the installation window where I was able to choose Restore via Time Machine. Dialed it back 1 hour and voila! Well, at least the OS was able to boot. I had to reapply the StellaV3 extensions again, but it is back up and running. Fun, fun, fun...a little miserable, but fun. sorry to read about your troubles, but there's a reason why i don't run any .mkext. did you try booting in single-user mode and deleting the .mkext cache? you also could've ignored the extension cache on boot through chameleon. the .kext i posted does work though, and very well. however i didn't use any prefab 10.6 install utility and installed chameleon, the dsdt and separate EFI partition by hand. apologies, again for the mistake Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/69/#findComment-1486468 Share on other sites
IMHERETOSTAY
Hey!! It seems that my problem could be related to temperatures... On startup my 10.6.3 is at 90degrees celcius it installed minivoodoopower .1.2.7 on my kakewalk install and my temps got in the high 70s and low 80s... My geekbench scroe went up to 5400pts!! And on my stells v3, to about 4000 pts (not much better) Are there other kexts to install to keep temp down?? What about speedstep?? Btw, accessing my files seems kinda slow too damn nothing is working as it should lol P.s. I will buy a new heatsink today! Any recommendations?? Also after some time, even my good install becomes sloppy... I'll do a video... Stupid machine! Georgiles
@IMHERETOSTAY I would go ahead and buy some good termal paste ARCTICSILVER, clean the old one and reapply it. I know for a fact that I applied on mine too thick layer and as a result the temperatures are 15 degrees Celsius than they are suppose to be. Did you try to boot with cartri's bios without the DSDT and v3? P.S. Also update your signature with your system. IMHERETOSTAY
Cartri's bios isn't available yet for Rev 1.1 of this board... Will apply Arctic Silver with my new heatsink... My current heatsink is broken ( 2 plastic scrrws out of 4 are broken so the processor isn't even fully covered... But it doesn't explain why I get temps in the 50s on 10.6.1 and on the 90s on 10.6.3 :s Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/69/#findComment-1486840 Share on other sites
Wanna Hack
Cartri's bios isn't available yet for Rev 1.1 of this board... Will apply Arctic Silver with my new heatsink... But it doesn't explain why I get temps in the 50s on 10.6.1 and on the 90s on 10.6.3 :s Try NullCPUPowerManagement in E/E to bring down the temp in your 10.6.3 system (remember to repair permissions, using a utility such as pfix from myHack): http://www.kexts.com/view/16-nullcpupowerm...2--64-bit).html You may have to get SleepEnabler to get this function again after adding Null, but I'd hold off and see if the temp does come down. Then, if sleep becomes an issue for you, install SleepEnabler also in E/E. I understand why you may be frustrated, but tackling these anomalies is part of the fun in building a hackintosh. Good luck and keep us posted. I knew going in that the kext could have caused my OS to quit booting...but I had forgotten that my second internal HD was being used by Time Machine for a back-up. However, I didn't have the SL master with Stella's V3 on a USB drive anymore. I also forgot my external HD was recently switched over to a video storage instead of a bootable OS. Thus, with 3 TB drives, only 1 was bootable. When it went down, I did boot into single user mode. I removed the .kext but the still refused to boot. BTW- how do you remove the .mkext cache? IMHERETOSTAY
OMG THANKS GUYS!! NullCPUPowerManagement and sleepenabler did the job! idle temps at 50-60 (still waiting on new heatsink) but I overclocked it to 2.7ghz and my ram to 900 mhz and doing 6400 in geekbenc on 10.6.3!!!! Will see if system slowing down over time persist.... Hopefully not!! One problem done! EDIT: Well if I do not put my computer to sleep ( I tested while I was away, with itunes running and a lot of apps, my temp rises in the 90s... ) so hopefully my new heatsink will work!! EDIT #2: Awoke this morning and the computer wasn't sleeping... Strange... Will look into that! MacTech84
Quick update The latest 10.6.4 build 10F566 is up and running on my backup drive (thank you green demon). Geekbench score 6613 (32bit) Bonjour, audio, networking, recognition of PCI & PCI-E cards and all drives is 100% The interesting bit. Since Stella has said he will not be making another installer, I decided to try the recently discovered (for me) Kakewalk installer. Its very nice, very easy, and the guy is going to support this for a while. One interesting bit with this installer, is that he has Chameleon 2.0 RC4 working! I had problems with this earlier and not recognizing Nvidia cards, so WooHoo! we now have a great alternative and here are the links to check out... MacTech84
Just updated my primary & backup drive to 10.6.4 It was a full success using the COMBO updater from Apple, not software update or the Delta updater. I use the combo as it might be redundant, but it includes all previous updates and the new updates for 10.6.4. In history, this proves to be a much safer method of updating. I am also using the Kakewalk Bootloader and its all 100% a go for me and my rig. REMEMBER - Always take care when updating to new system wide updates and use the Combo updater (its the largest of the 2 updates) Update - Just ran the 64 bit version of Geekbench - score was 7240! on the bare backup drive it was 7719! HAVEC
Just updated my usb back-up clone drive to 10.6.4 from 10.6.3 with the V.3 Installer. This was from the software update under the apple menu. The upgrade went smoothly and everything seems to be working. I guess I'll reclone the 10.6.3 main sata drive and go for it. bean5
combo updated...seems like everything is working fine...also, I would usually turn on my comp, and force it to sleep once it booted. I did this because it would boot up about 5-10 degrees hotter than what it should be. Putting it to sleep and waking it up would drop the temp. On boot, the temp was already where it should have been.
