1. Lifehacker Guide with GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard

I was at 10.6.7 till the end of October. Before trying TonyMacX86 steps I removed the Cartri Bios. That step made it easier to boot. I reverted back to the BIOS from Gigabyte. You will need access to AppStore to Download Lion. I believe I had to run Chimera to create settings that the AppStore would enable to download Lion. I Created an installer with #####. Great Installer. I also ran ##### to create bootable Hard Drive after install. I was confused with ##### and tried everything the first time. I needed to either run ##### (without DSDT) or DSDTUtility to patch the DSDT. I used the DSDT from D-an-W a couple pages back. I needed to run ##### for the network drivers and audio. The latest ##### fixed the Video settings. I cannot verify HDMI due to not having it. I still may modify the Kext in the future but I am happy with the Bootable Installer and Lion. I keep the ##### created USB plugged in all the time. The installer was simpler than I made it. I did too many changes at once and made it difficult to go back to a starting point.

Cannot use iCloud with build 10.7.2. Only have 3 Kexts in E/E IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector LegacyHDA JMicronATA I do not have a DSDT, using org.chameleon.boot.plist. I am using D-an-W DSDT ran through DSDTUtility on #####. The new ##### Nov 8th, fixed much of the manual changes to PLIST. I have not moved away from the three Kext above. Still cannot access iCloud. Will wait to see if something changes in the next OS update. I queried TonyMacx86 and did not find an answer. Eric

Update to 10.7.2 Flashed BIOS to remove Cartri Friday. Need Windows PC to get the file. At version FD. Moved to 10.6.8 Friday. Purchase Lion Friday. Followed TonyMacx86 for getting the Lion d/l Used TonyMacx86 to create the installer. Stayed at 10.6.8 till Sunday. Ran the installer. Issue I had was I attempted to run too many items in the post install instructions, I should have ran ##### to handle the DSDT issue. Then ran patches on network. Ran a third time for Audio. I researched how to get the Video card to work. The answer was close to what was stated here, In the org.chameleon.Boot.plist, I added GeneratePStates Yes GenerateCStates Yes EnableC2State Yes EnableC4State Yes PCIRootUID 1 Since I do not have a patched DSDT I have arch=i386 I used D-an-W DSDT and ran the latest DSDTUtility on ##### 4.1 and it cleaned up much of what I wrote above for the Monitor. I have not messed with the kexts much yet. Not sure what improvements I would get for the time put into it. Hope this helps others. I will be looking into fine tuning my build more. I am cloning the Lion drive now. Eric

I notice that lifehacker updated some steps for Hackintosh and Lion. Link: http://lifehacker.com/5855509/directly-ins...rocess-required I will be looking to follow this after Thanksgiving. I do not see anything about the Cartri Bios. Not sure if I need to reset the motherboards bios back to its default or not. Thought I would mention this if someone else was trying this step or are interested what was brought up. Eric
5. Lifehacker Guide with GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard

Running version 10.6.7 on cartri bios. Not planning on any upgrades. I am planning on staying put till I get a new machine in a few years.
6. Lifehacker Guide with GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard

Updated, no issues. Using Cartri Bios on system.
7. Lifehacker Guide with GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard

Not yet. Awaiting feedback from here.
8. Lifehacker Guide with GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard

Updated to 10.6.6. No issues, was able to download a free app from the App Store. I am running on the Carti Bios.

Regarding the limit on the HardDrive, from recollection it was 1.5 TB. MacTech85 signature was using a 1.5TB drive back in page 41. We never came to a conclusion why? To have a guess was that Apple was not selling anything that was a large hard drive capacity. The large drives were new to the builds at the end of 2009, well specific to this build. Looking also around page 41, for another graphics card beside opening the second PCI slot MachTech85 mentioned getting Series 8 or above or you may have to run in 32-bit mode. Dual Cards are possible from RainMan's earlier posts. Just haven't grouped all the posts associated with it. With the Cartri BIOS, possibly many of the kext/installer restrictions have been removed. With Adam Pash's new build I am interested in the SSD concept for a boot drive. I currently am running 2 1TB drives. Got rid of time machine and I am cloning the 2nd drive with CCC, also using backblaze for online back up. Getting antsy to mod my machine some more. Thinking of a second Graphics Card and a SSD boot drive. Not sure yet may wait till after the Year end. Using the machine for DVR, so I have to find off time to get the build done. Just having thoughts that a SSD with just the OS is worth the cost, for a fast boot. I always leave the machine on without sleep mode. Just turn off the monitor. I moved the Dell XP onto the machine using Parallels. I didn't want to boot out of the DVR functionality to run windows. Was researching making the Snow Leopard a Virtual desktop, but that can only be done with the server. Not worth the dough to do. Would be nice to create multiple desktops configurations to run on a basic boot module. That may be a couple releases away. Also have been starting to have issues with computer parts bought through Amazon. Bought two items that could not be returned. I was able to get the appropriate items through MonoPrice, correct items shipped at a great price. Amazon, outsourced the order and shipment. Raised the shipping cost and was sent the wrong product. Opened the package, website stated that could not return product when package was opened. Just wanted to place a warning for replacement parts. Better to go to NewEgg or MonoPrice. Got the item ordered at a great price.

I was able to update with the security patch with no problems. I am running Cartri BIOS, with only 1 additional kext for drive icons. The platform is 32 bit for software compliance. Does anyone else program obj-C on their hack? Are there any constraints to developing software for release? Thanks, Eric

Thanks All, Was able to load the Kext with the utility. Looks exactly like the previous installation. Eric

I have a working system using George Anton's Extra. I added in the 32-bit Architecture to the above PLIST. I will save the old extra for emergencies. Thanks for the patience. Update See post 808 on page 41 for updating the Plist for 32 bit. I was not able to get the IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext Searched the internet for the file. Will check the old "Extra Good" saved off for future purposes. Leaving the current drives as orange, not a big deal. Will work on this at a later time. Mistake I made was not knowing that I had to decompress the RAR file. I thought it was an installer. Flashed the Bios before the installer, but being able to run the last EXTRA I had no problem. There may be individual set ups for the EXTRA. I just copied Georgiles and converted for my need.

UPDATE: BIOS flashed I was able to load via DSDT=CARTRI then removed renamed Extra. I found some BIOS settings did not match Cartri guide. I believe the extra items is causing my onboard NIC to appear that gave me warnings. The drive icons can be updated later. Missing Software loading, these are the console logs when trying to load it. 7/1/10 10:46:36 PM [0x0-0x38038].com.Cvnt.ce[3075] ioctl CTLIOCGINFO: No such file or directory Another App 7/1/10 10:47:00 PM com.x3.x3daemon[3165] ioctl CTLIOCGINFO: No such file or directory Update 2 Still can not load 2 software packages that I need. 7/2/10 7:07:47 AM com.x3.x3daemon[501] /System/Library/Extensions/x3nke.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) requested architecture/executable not found; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8). I did run Kext Util and rebooted. Did not fix the issue. Update 3 Stable... No errors in console... I am in Cartri Bios, using the V3 Stell's Extra, modified to 32-bit architecture. Running the 2 apps that had issues. The test tonight would be to see if I can run George Anton's Extra with 32 bit architecture in the Com.Apple.boot.Plist. Thank you George, I got it from your signature. The Cartri installer was missing many items that you have already worked on. I will post in a new response tonight. Quoting "Ren and Stimpy" Oh Happy Joy Joy Thanks for the patience and help. Eric

I was able to use UnRar to get the package to the desktop. I renamed Extra, then I flashed the BIOS The BIOS is done, I got lost with the print screen settings. I had more than the manual. I booted up to V3, then I ran the installer. I have the Apple logo to boot in. I was unable to get to the place where I should enter DSDT=cartri. When the desktop loaded the OS complained about my network settings. Built In Network not configured I can get onto the net for this posting. Not sure what I missed. This may have been turned on in the bios. I do have the desktop, lost an application that blocked my internet access.

This Update has been difficult. 1. Could not rename Extra in Finder. Only could rename the non-booted drive. Tried using Terminal but mv gave me permission errors. 2. Formatted the USB - V3 Lifehacker thumb-drive to FAT. Placed the G4-EP45-UD3P2.rar on the FAT USB Thumb drive. This will not boot. 3. Tried to open the G4-EP45-UD3P2.rar on the hard drive but it open VLC. ----- Downloaded the Boot-CD. Burned the ISO onto a CD. Rebooted, Did not run. Opened the ISO and installed on the hard drive. So I continued with the install. Updated HardDrive2, the clone. Then Updated HardDrive1. Rebooted, expected to flash the BIOS. Got into the System, Hard Drives are now orange. Tried rebooting and can not get to the Q-Flash --- Only got the EXTRA folder installed - could not get the BIOS flashed. I got the LIFEHACKER V3 EXTRA and replaced CARTRI's So I am back at V3. Will need to re-read the directions. SO many different options ----- Did not look anything like the YouTube videos.
