thepretender
SBmac to your surprise and mine I put the 6600gt in and booted -x32 and all seems well, works like it should no KP. Good news for those who can't quite afford the "exact" parts. Turns out Bonjour wasn't 100% with the terminal fix. But this fix works just fine. Could save a pci slot or $10 bucks for someone I picked up a SL compatible Trendnet Ethernet card from my local Fry's before trying this. Anyone need a 9800GT and a network card cheep jk http://www.kexts.com/view/125-bonjour64:_a...4-bit_snow.html With this fix and version 1.6 of the GA_EP45-UD3P on board nic's work 100% can't say for older versions of the MB. Though I suspect they would be fine also. Working 64bit kext (works 32bit also) for onboard NIC found in this post. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=181133 0800damo, if your PCI NIC won't work turn on the onboard Ethernet in you BIOS and try the above. I am hoping at some point in the future to actually see full support for the onboard LAN, but there are soo many chipsets out there for these ports, I think its best for a PCI-NIC for right now. 0800damo
Just curious here, do you have the onboard ethernet enabled or disabled? And did you install any kext files for the onboard ethernet? all bios settings are as the lifehacker set up so whatever it is in them sorry but this is my first build and not that familiar with it all yet onboard ethernet does not work either have not installed any kexts thanks for your interest Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/29/#findComment-1345692 Share on other sites

Pull the PCI NIC card, boot up and go into BIOS. Check the settings for your LAN ports and make sure they are disabled. Let the computer restart and fully load into OS X. Once that is up, shut the computer down, unplug the power supply, then re-install the PCI NIC you have and reboot. Let us know if that works... MacTech84
tried it no luck I would recommend trying the following from member the pretender. Personally I would say try the kext first, and if that does not work, try the other fix after removing the kext. MicahDanielSmith
Thanks to everyone contributing here. Got my hackintosh working really well with reading all 30+ pages of this guide. That being said, I wanted to see how people were approaching wireless. I have read some other posts on the forum discussing wireless adapters that are/are not working, but havent seen anything that was really conclusive of things working in SL -64. Anyone using a wireless adaptor they can suggest? PCI or USB? Looking for something that will work as an "airport" card just so I dont muck up any future updates. Thanks! There are several PCI cards on the market that will work for Wifi and be recognized as Airport based cards and for these typically you want to find a Broadcom based card as these will work the best right out of the box. If you care to read some more, another site that I use for a lot of product compatibility is xlr8yourmac.com. I would be interested to hear your thoughts damian and also a big thank you to the pretender i am amewbie and didnt originaly see your post I have messed with OS X server before, but this was a few years back. The only real difference between server and consumer are applications that are installed, and services you can run through it (in the most basic way to say). Technically it should work the exact same way. If you do try to install this I would recommend you use a different HD that way you do not touch the install you have done of consumer OS X. ruby_99
I need a little help with my video card -- the fan seems to run at full speed all the time. It varies on startup, then stays at a constant high level. It was the same with the Halloween installer and v.3. I've tried to mess around with some of the BIOS settings to no avail. The next steps for me to try are to reinstall on another HD. I have it in the back of mind to buy a different cooler for the card or another, fanless card. mosslack
Anyone having any success running SL on the UD3P with dual video cards? I've tried Stell's install, among others, but none seem to work with 2 video cards. I had it working fine in 10.5.8. Also been having problems shutting down lately, about 9 times out of 10 it simply refuses to shut down. Then for no apparent reason it will work fine the next time. Probably BIOS related, but which setting? MacWannaBe
I have a question. Everything is working fine. This is more of a cosmetic issue. I have a 16:10 monitor (1920x1200). I have changed the plist in theme so that the bootloader screen is the proper resolution. However, the Apple boot logo (I changed it from OBEY), is showing up rather low rez and squished. Any ideas on what to change it to make it look better? Thanks. Nach0 Stallion
Stellarolla V3 install - worked, then died.. Hi everyone, I have been trying for ages to get this exact board ever since i saw the life hacker article, then I saw that Stella has made V3 of the installer I was over the moon, my issue, I have one of those evil ATI4870 cards. what I have done so far: had a working hackintosh with a GA-31 boards, had vanilla 10.5 install with netkas injector so i was happily playing COD4 on it wanted more RAM, more HD drives etc so i got the 45-UD3P i have tried about 12 install methods/guides etc, its now 1:30am, im still at work and am exhausted :/ I got aitkos 7 working with sound , lan GFX (only single output) so i thought id try with the new SL as these cards are now available for SL macs etc etc. stellas V3 worked, i had sound, but now when i turn the system on i get 4 lines of text and nothing happened, I.M forums search is all over the place im just so exhausted going back through dosens of pages trying to find an answer SO my question is this: can someone help me out with a solution as to what to do to get up and running and if i can have dual monitors (the card has 2 DVI ports) (i have access to real macs etc) or should i just stick with 10.5.7 iAtkos? my goal is to have a system with 8GB of RAM, win 7 64bit and SL with dual monitors for both gaming and testing customers HDDs (why i needed so many sata ports) I see that IDE is fully turned off in SL, but with my iatkos i had full DVD burning. any and all help appreciated thank you in advance 'oh forumites who are smarter then me Nach0 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/29/#findComment-1348769 Share on other sites

Once you do get it up, both ports should work. I have 2 -20 inch Cinema Displays running off of a GTX 275. As for the DVD burner, I might suggest an upgrade to SATA, just becuase it will burn faster, and they are showing to be a bit more reliable, as well as pretty cheap now. Say $30 for a Pioneer on newegg. I need a little help with my video card -- the fan seems to run at full speed all the time. It varies on startup, then stays at a constant high level. I have it in the back of mind to buy a different cooler for the card or another, fanless card. This could be a few things, possibly bad contact between the GPU cooler and the heatsink, possibly bad GPU BIOS, check for an update on the manufacturers site, or possibly just a bad card. Have you had the card overclocked? Anyone having any success running SL on the UD3P with dual video cards? I've tried Stell's install, among others, but none seem to work with 2 video cards. Anyone out there got the instructions on how to set that up? I have a question. Everything is working fine. This is more of a cosmetic issue. I have a 16:10 monitor (1920x1200). If not boot with you thumb drive and do so. ahhh, this appears to be the issue, I did tell my system to boot off USB-HDD but it still gave me the error, thinking i had somehow nuked everything, i had to go into biod and make USB HDD a higher priority then it popped up with bootloader, i selected second drive and up she comes! thank you SOO much! Nach0 Ok, I mean this sincerely and not trying to bash you or your choice in graphics. But why not go with a GT200 series card? (please don't say price). I say this because its just now that ATI with the 5000 series has been able to somewhat catch up with Nvidia's GT200 series. Hell my GTX275 beats most of those cards, but anyways I do stray from my point. For good gaming, and a card you will not have to upgrade every year, go with a GT200 series card, and it will serve you well. It will also be auto-recognized with the V3 installer, and fully work. I can fully understand your choice as yes, at the time under 10.5 ATI seemed to have better support as the Nvidia injectors were getting quite old and obsolete. With recent additions to the bootloader, its now possible for these cards to be supported much more easily, and for some reason I keep reading ATI cards are having difficult support under 10.6. You can use any Nvidia 8/9/GT 200 series card with the V3 installer, except for the GT210/220 and any CO-OP based cards. Best bang for the buck is the GTX275, at least when I got mine on sale and works beautifully. As for the networking, I would recommend dropping in a PCI-Nic card, such as the Netgear GA311. I have tried 4 different methods and scripts for getting the onboard to work and the only thing that is consistent is getting on the net. Bonjour support works half the time in 64 bit mode. Since I wanted full 64 bit support, I basically said screw it and got the add in card and have been happy with correct recognition of other Mac's on my network. I fully know about wanting to tear your hair out, as on my last build I did that way too often. For me this one has been an absolute BREEZE! Let me know if you need anything else... Actually, I didn't need to do any of that. All I had to do was change the following 4 things in the /Extra/Themes/Default/theme.plist <key>boot_height</key> <string>1200</string> <key>boot_width</key> <string>1920</string> <key>screen_height</key> <string>1200</string> <key>screen_width</key> <string>1920</string> Reboot... everything looked great. I had only changed the screen ones before and not the boot ones, that's why the apple logo and spinner were the wrong shape. -Ed Thanks, that is good to know as well. I changed all of the resolutions like it was recommending for the pic files, and it looks great as well. MacWannaBe
i want to run this system with 8GB of RAM, its basically a gameing/email and disk scanning system, if i use 32bit mode will it affect the amount of RAM the system will see? thanks (i only ask as i have the exact board as you and am tearing hair out 32-bit will not limit how much memory you can see. I was running in 32 bit mode at first and could use my 8 gigs no problem. A 32-bit APP, cannot use more than 4 gigs I think, but that was not your question. The overall system will be fine in 32-bit mode.
