I still can't get windows to install. I keep getting weird hard drive errors. I get different ones depending on how I've formatted the drive. Current error:

 

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

 

I even changed all the bios setting to back to IDE and legacy etc... I get the same error. I'm totally clueless on this one. Any ideas?

I think I got that message when I was installing windows 7, if not something similar to that message. Did it happen when you're selecting which drive to install windows on to? If so, all I did was delete all partitions on that drive and then format it. After that, windows 7 installed just fine (with one stupid hickup: I got a windows update disk, so I had to install windows twice to get it to accept my product key). Of course, this is assuming you're putting the OS on a different drive.

 

I think I read a while back that someone had some trouble with windows 7 always displaying the wrong time...anyone know of a fix? Every time I boot up windows 7, it's like 9 hours ahead. I have to go into the date and time window and force it to sync with the internet to get it to display the right time, but again, a restart will mess it up.

I'm sure you did....but just to make sure. Did you unplug your OSX drive? It messed up my installation everytime until after about an hour I remembered that I needed to unplug the other drive.

I disconnected everything except the DVD. The osx volume was not connected.

 

I tried it on the onboard sata with the dvd on the other sata ports, I tried it with different bios settings. I tried it on the jmicron sata ports, they all say the same thing. I tried cleaning the drive with diskpart, and it can't format the disk either. This is getting ridiculous. It has nothing to do with osx86, but for some reason win7 does not like this mobo!

I'd like to know what's going on with the time problem too. It's the only real problem I have with my build.

scrambler: defective drive maybe? what about having the windows install doing the formatting?

 

havec (sic): workaround I used was to follow this guide: http://swmirror.org/drupal/?q=node/32

Seems to have worked on windows 7 professional 64bit, but I haven't really used that OS enough to test if it really did work.

This build mainly focuses on the MB,correct? Can I use a Pentium D cpu with this build and the script? I'll buy the video card too if needed,but I want to build this as cheap as possible if I already have capable hardware laying around.

this build focuses on a set of compatible components, mainly, I think, the motherboard, processor and video card (see title: Lifehacker Guide with GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard, For your experience with this EXACT hardware configuration and method). But I don't think you can hackintosh a pentium ...don't you need at least a core duo? I'm most likely mistaken, but you might get some flak about asking such questions on a thread dedicated to a set build.

 

scram: like I said, have you tried getting the windows install to delete the partitions on the drive and then format the drive itself? That's what I had to do.

It gives me an error when trying to format. I've even tried diskpart in the repair utilities to do it and it just hangs. I loaded it into a sata-usb adapter and formatted it with another windows machine, which worked fine.

Pentium and Celeron Dual Core's will work. NOT Pentium D or Celeron D, however.

that sucks scrambler...odd, I don't see why this would happen....

 

is there anyway to set the hackintosh to wake from sleep by pressing a key on the keyboard? I kinda tucked my tower away and it's a {censored} to reach over to it to hit the power button.

I've noticed that this hack is pretty sensitive to what USB your keyboard / mouse is plugged in to for waking up. I think it needs to be plugged in to a port on the board and NOT a hub.

 

Also, try different ports on the board till it works. I have my keyboard on the one in the back right below the orange port. I can wake up my hack with the "return" key on the keyboard.

Not much help but I've my Hack sharing a mouse and keyboard with another computer with an iogear KTM switch so that both the keyboard and the mouse are sharing a single USB port on both machines. It works fine, no problem waking up from sleep. It's plugged into a rear USB port. Can't tell which one without standing on my head.

God... Somebody got's to help me PLEASE!! I can't figure out what the hell is the problem... Everytime I install the v3 installer package, my system is really slow... On the v2, it's really fast!! So I have a system on 10.6.0 with v2 that's scoring 6500 average on geekbench 64bits and I cloned it to a separate hdd and installed v3... 3300 points on geekbench and a lot less responsive... Can somebody help me with this?? It's driving me nuts!

 

 

Specs:

EP45-UD3P

Q6600 at 2.7Ghz

4 GB 800mhz ddr2

GTX 260

 

 

Everything is fine with v2 apart from slowdown after some uptime... but as soon as I hit v3... BOOM!! Slowdown everytime!!

 

I'm willing to pay for help lol, I'm that desperate!

How's the case temp feel?

 

Speaking of installing V3 and deleting Extra folders. I'm running beautifully on the old Halloween V.2 installer. I don't suppose there is any compelling reason to install V.3?

Where is this folder on the master hard drive that has the fresh install of SL? I search for the word "Extra" and there's a folder found on the installing thumb drive only.

A few reasons;

- Better vid card support for other cards

- CPU identification which also allows Silverlight ot work for Netflix

 

most importantly? Running v2 and upgrading to 10.6.2 = dead hackintosh.

If it is a FRESH install? There is no /Extras folder.

That folder is created by the installer.

(So if you run v2 on an HD, and want to go to v3, you have to delete the /Extras folder then run v3)

Okay. Thanks for clarifying that.

 

Installed Stella V3 into the Hackintosh Installing Thumb Drive. Installed SL perfectly onto HackMac.

 

Then on the first successful start up, I installed Stella V3 into the HackMac. Restarting...

 

I turned on the HackMac to notice that my screen resolution is at 1024 x 768, and it's looking terrible. No wireless, no ethernet...

 

Installing 10.6.2 update now. Restarting.

 

Still no good.

 

How come I can't get this hackintosh working plug-&-play like it's supposed to? This has to be my 7th or 8th install. ARGHHH

VERY WEIRD!

 

so, I restarted the computer W/O the thumb drive stuck in the back, and then reinstalled stella V3 into the hackmac. Restarted.. I got a completely different start up sequence (with different darwin screens), and now my video card registers!!!

 

But ethernet, wireless still is a problem. i'm happy that the video is clear up tho!
