Using the thumbdrive will allow you to choose which partition to boot from as well. Remember, you had to do that very thing for the initial install. I'm somehow missing your reasoning with iphoto and such. You can get by doing what you do now, but if you really need the 1TB drive for other things, know that you have the solution. Happy modding!

You know,.. you don't have to suckle on that 1TB drive to boot right? If you want to you could free that up by using the thumbstick to boot. ;-) Honestly, there's only one reason to leave it in the 2TB configuration - single files >1TB in size. Just re-partition the 2TB drive. Make 2 - 1TB partitions and forget about it. ************* bean5: SBMac was always the card guru in this thread. He made several posts regarding newer GPUs that worked right out of the box. I don't know off-hand which ones will work, or that will perform the best. The only way I'd know is to search/Google this thread for one of SBMac's posts. Give it a shot, couldn't hurt. :-D

You can still *use* the 2TB drive, just cut the 2TB into 2 1TB partitions. No biggie. I don't know where the limitation comes in, though I *believe it's a hack issue. (You can search this thread, I believe Stella answered it) That's how it starts, and the game keeps moving. Hopefully at some point you'll help someone who feels just as appreciative as you. Running cartri? How do you like it? Do you feel it was more labor/tech intensive than the LH build?

1TB limit/partition, you guessed it. Also, make sure that for 2 words, you underscore it. (no space between the words) Some OSes have a problem with it, and it's just good practice. bean5: You want to upgrade your video card? Are you at V3 for Stella's installer? If so, just upgrade to any newer Nvidia card, auto-detection is in full effect. Not on V3? Download it, use your thumbdrive to boot up, delete your /Extras folder, install V3 tp your HD, reboot. RC: Thanks RC, I, like the others was just trying to give back what we could after being helped by so many others. I couldn't have even scratched this without Stella's awesome work for the build, and Adam bringing it into the light. Been so long, been lettin the cartri guys take the reigns. ;-D ps, anyone see that Lifehacker has a new build?

.....Wow... alot of movement around here since I last logged on. Over 100 pages? Congratulations!(?) I see alot of users moving to Cartri. I'm still on 10.6.3 as I need it for a backup to my main 3D rig. (Maya) I need to make sure I can open Maya and actually *use it. (Graphics bugs have been a problem.) How are the newer builds? (6.4, 6.5) Many Stella users running newer updates? Any update failures? (Using combo updater) Thanks for the help, glad the LH build community is still running strong.

Funny thing about the BIOS,.... doesn't this board have 2? A primary and a backup just in case you hose it? Might want to look into how to make it boot the secondary instead. (You shouldn'e HAVE to get into the BIOS if it's a backup for if you hose the primary) The Cartri question? That's for the Cartri thread my friend. For all intents and purposes, the ONLY thing non-Apple about this build is the /Extras folder, so it should ABSOLUTELY run with a board running Cartri. (Just remove the /Extras folder and do what Cartri tells you to do for install.)

I don't want to seem like an ass, but we need for you to pay attention to what we ask you to do. When MacTech84 asked you to unplug EVERYTHING, do it. We need to go through certain steps to troubleshoot, and it is detrimental to our effort for you not to do so. Imagine if you didn't say "what the hell" and didn't remove the stick. If you came back saying "that didn't work" you would have had us chasing a ghost. Do us a favor, work with us. ;-)

Have you even tried a different card? People post on here all the time about how they activated their built-in ports, have you tried that? Give us a break here budd, there's only so much we can do. ;-)

Possible? Sure. Far as I know, Cartri can do it on certain ones, and any board using parts that Apple already has drivers for should be able to have a DSDT built and installed just as this one did. Stella even suggested he would have rather used an MSI he had. Thing is, you have to build it/have it built, and you won't find help for it in this thread dedicated to the EP45-UD3p.

Did you forget OSX was built on Unix? How do you find a hidden file in Unix? ls -a How do you remove a file with mad permissions on it? sudo rm <some flags you need to search for> <file_path> Get them Googles in shape brother ;-p

Sorry for the paraphrase, your post was long. The answer: I don't know. Starting with 10.6.2 The window server fails on startup when connected from DVI > HDMI. No clue why, but Stell and I tested it remotely pretty long one night. Basically the comp is running, I can ssh to it or do screen sharing, but the window server doesn't allow me to interact with the machine. It literally goes haywire and tachs up the CPU. Some have suggested this is monitor specific, as others here use HDMI no problem. Hell, Stella didn't believe til I let him login. (because his works) Need it to work, RIGHT NOW? Hook it up to DVI or VGA. Wish it weren't this way, hell, I'm still stuck on VGA. (Can't even use my HDTV) I have the build GPU btw. ps, Graphics support was greatly improved with v3, run it.

Not even my 15" MBP does that. Don't expect it to. Use the wall wart, or a powered USB hub. It's not a charging station.

Not to worry, you likely only shortened its lifespan. ;-) Why not set your alarm for 70-75? That's not too hot, hell it'd be like the case of a Macbook Pro. ;-p

Now you can either try getting another set the same size as you have to increase it further, or forget about it.
