Why are you trying to put your DSDT.aml file into the nforceslboot.iso? You should put it in the /Extra or / directory of your target Snow Leopard OS X install HDD volume..........

sorry my mistake

anyway....

i made it!! :) posting right now from snow leopard retail :):D its {censored}in fast this system

its working perfectly here, but there are 3 problems i have now:

1. is that i need to boot with arch=i386 flag, i think its something with the AppleNforceATA, i tried with those 3 nforceata kexts and no one worked, i need to boot with 32bit flag.

2. no audio, even with the AppleHDA, im gonna check hardware section, when i had leopard here i had to download some alc driver

3. no graphics acceleration, im gonna check hardware section.

one more thing... how do i make an image of my partition i have sl right now? i wanna try to make video and audio works, but im afraid of messing everything out, so i want to make some sort of ghost of my partition

and Thank You Very Much Verdant! :D

Glad to help.........I like happy customers.........LOL

1. Yes, unless you have all 64bit kexts in /E/E/ and /S/L/E/, you will need to boot in 32bit mode using arch=i386 in com.apple.Boot.plist.............to boot in 64bit mode, see.........Part K. Item 6.

But note this quote from the Tuxera for Mac developers:

The 64-bit kernel is only used by default in the latest Xserve rack mounted servers, capable of using up to 48 GiB of memory. All other Macs use the 32/64-bit hybrid kernel by default because their hardware doesn’t support more than 32 GiB of memory, and as such running the purely 64-bit kernel would be pointless.

2. What is your audio codec/chipset? You will probably need an audio patched DSDT and a LegacyHDA.kext and v10.6.2 AppleHDA.kext..........see post #2, which explains in more detail.....

3. See post #1 Part A for help with your graphics........

To make a clone of your current system to volume, use Disk Utility, or Carbon Copy Cloner (which I do)........

All Asus P5N-E SLI 650i chipset MOBO owners may be interested in this.........successful SATA DVDRW read/write functioning...........

See this post by Curtis8523, who has a P5N-E SLI MOBO with 2.5 GB RAM (1 x 1 GB stick, 3 x 512 MB Stick), Nvidia Gforce 210 512 MB Video Card, 750 GB SATA HDD, Samsung 22x SATA SH-S223C/BEBE DVDRW, 2 x 40 GB ATA HDD RAID to show an 80 GB HDD, Netgear WN311T PCI Wireless card showing as airport extreme. He is using the P5N-E SLI BIOS 1406 with stock settings except AI overclock to 20%.

He is booting in 32bit mode and using the AppleNForceATA.kext from the iATKOS S3 v2 Install DVD distro......

***************************************************

I have a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223B SATA DVDRW on an Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus (650i with 6GB RAM with OCd CPU (3GHz) and RAM (800MHz) but have not been able to read/write reliably using the SATA DVDRW with any AppleNForceATA kext........

I will try using the AppleNforceATA kext from the iATKOS DVD and with/without maxmem=2048........if it still does not work, then it could be that the BIOS is different...........I have asked for his DSDT.aml for comparison.........

However, I think the reason may be the chipset differences:

ASUS P5N-E SLI

Chipset: NVIDIA 650i SPP (C55) + 650i MCP (nF430)

Onboard SATA/RAID: 4 SATA 3Gbps Ports - 650i MCP (RAID 0,1, 0+1, 5, JBOD)

1 e-SATA 3Gbps Port - JMicron JMB361

Onboard IDE: 2 ATA133/100/66 Port (4 drives) - 650i MCP

ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus

Chipset: NVIDIA 650i SPP (C55) + 570 SLI MCP (MCP55P)

Onboard SATA/RAID: 6 SATA 3Gbps Ports - 570 SLI MCP (RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5, JBOD)

Onboard IDE: 1 ATA133/100/66 Port (2 drives) - 570 SLI MCP

I am getting the following output:

AppleNForceATA: NVIDIA nForce MCP 51 Serial ATA by MeDevil (CMD 0x9f0, CTR 0xbf0, IRQ 23, BM 0xf800)

AppleNForceATA: warning: phy connection failed. status=0x00000000

AppleNForceATA: found 0 units.

Still waiting for root device

I copied these by hand, hopefully there aren't any mistakes. This is not exact, but overall what I get. I can't get past this. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Thanks!

What are your HDD and DVDRW details?

Have you set up your BIOS for OS X with the 750i chipset (see link in post #1), including:

RAID Enable [Enabled]

SATA 0 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 0 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 2 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 2 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

so that you can enable the SATA functions. This because WHEN you set RAID Enable to [Disabled], all SATA functions are changed to Disabled and cannot be changed.......... :(

Include

cpus=1

in your /E/E/ com.apple.boot.plist and report back if you get a reduced number of random KPs when the desktop is idle.......if not, include

cpus=1 maxmem=3072

and report back..........I want is see if KPs are CPU and/or RAM related.........

Also, check your system log when rebooting after a KP, to see if there is a recurring error each time you have a KP.........

When you get your MacPro your worries should be over......... :)

Cheers

verdant

i have been using windows for the past week as i had to use iso buster program to save some old dvds i had so havnt had chance to use mac system.

but i have a system log reports witch may have the answer to the KP's. i was unable to find any other scripts in the other console logs you mentioned.

only in system logs.

i am back to mac system and will be using maxmem as i haven't had a KP as of yet using that.

thanks again and i hope ive gave the the right information.

What are your HDD and DVDRW details?

Have you set up your BIOS for OS X with the 750i chipset (see link in post #1), including:

RAID Enable [Enabled]

SATA 0 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 0 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 2 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 2 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

so that you can enable the SATA functions. This because WHEN you set RAID Enable to [Disabled], all SATA functions are changed to Disabled and cannot be changed..........

Yes, I followed the chart and setup the bios, including the Raid Enable. I always get a cmos rest though, I just don't understand how I would patch the DSDT when I don't have OS X installed on this PC. Maybe that's the issue? Also, should I be using the Chameleon RC4 boot file or the EFI 10.6 boot file?

Yes, that is the issue!.........as post #1 explains, you need a OS X Leopard installation in order to set up the PC for a Snow Leopard Retail OS X installation.....use RC3 or RC4 in the first instance.......

Ahhh I see. But where exactly does it say in your first post that it is a requirement? Is it where you say "(1) Access to a working Mac or Hack x86 OS X Leopard system?"

I have access to a MacBook with Snow Leopard on it right now and I thought that is what you meant by that...And if I still have to install Leopard on my PC should I follow this guide? Leopard

Thanks!

Edit: I forgot one thing. Why do I need to install Leopard first? Is it so I can patch the DSDT or what?

Yes and Yes if you wish (see below) and Yes......... :(

The reasons for needing a Leopard OS X installation on the PC you want to install Snow Leopard are (from post #1) as follows:

1. You can generate and patch your PC BIOS's DSDT.aml file for later use by Snow Leopard and set up /Extra/Extensions and the Chameleon (or other) bootloader on your target SL OS X volume.........

2. Generating an EFI string for your graphics card(s)

Quote from aqua-mac

PLEASE NOTE - SNOW LEOPARD When making your output file - that must be done booted from Leopard only. Snow Leopard gives the wrong info in the output file and you WILL NOT get QE/CI working! GFX strings will work fine on snow leopard once they are made, but the part where you translate the input file into the output file only works if made with Leopard. If you make that in snow it will give an incorrect one and you will not get Quartz Extreme or Core Image which makes OSX pretty useless. So you will need a Leo install on a laptop or someone with a Leo install at present. To reset permissions after you re-install the file, just run Disk Utility - Repair Permissions.

3. You have a fully working OS X system that [a] has enabled you to identify any special kexts needed for video, network and/or audio and/or BIOS settings for USB or Firewire etc., and will enable you to easily fix any problems with your subsequent Snow Leopard installation, run installer packages to install stuff on SL when it is not booted etc........

Yes, you can follow my Leopard topic, or my Leopard distro install guides in my blog.......

I don't seem to be able to view your blog, I get some permission error. For the Leopard install what version of iATKOS should I use? And wouldn't I still get errors when starting up the DVD like I am using the Retail Snow Leopard (which I copied to my flash drive).

Would iATKOS s3 for installing Snow Leopard or should I use iATKOS v7 to install Leopard and then use your 1st post to install Snow Leopard?

iATKOS S3 v2 will work (IMHO it is much better for nForce MOBOs than the Hazard distro)........here are my SL install guides from my blog........but like ALL single-layer DVD distros, it is a "stripped-down" version of the Retail OS X Install DVD containing NO Printer Drivers etc.......so I would still recommend a full Retail Install......... :(

Thanks man, I'll let you know how it goes. I have to install later since I'm not home right now.

I cannot for the life of me get iATKOS S3 v2 to boot even after following your guide. I cannot even find out what the problem is because the disc freezes on the chameleon screen when trying to boot if I enter commands such as -v or maxmem=3072 or anything like that.

i have been using windows for the past week as i had to use iso buster program to save some old dvds i had so havnt had chance to use mac system.

but i have a system log reports witch may have the answer to the KP's. i was unable to find any other scripts in the other console logs you mentioned.

only in system logs.

i am back to mac system and will be using maxmem as i haven't had a KP as of yet using that.

thanks again and i hope ive gave the the right information.

The Crash Report in the system.log relates to this recurring error trap:

Error loading /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio: dlopen(/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio, 262): no suitable image found. Did find:\n /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio: no matching architecture in universal wrapper

Suggest you remove DVCPROHDAudio.plugin from /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/..........BTW I do not have it in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/ of any of my SL systems, i.e. 10.6.2, or 10.6.3, or 10.6.4.......

Anything, I mean anything I type causes chameleon to freeze when I try to boot. I know its not a bad burn with the disc because I had no problems installing it onto my laptop.

If it is not the disc you burned, then it could be that your DVDRW in the Desktop is not reading from the DVD without errors.......

I'm still getting with iATKOS the original errors that I posted...Here are some pictures.

But I don't even get to the installer, this error won't let me pass...This is what I get booting from the DVD.

Is your DVDRW a SATA drive?
