I want to install OS X on my P5N-D nForce 750i Motherboard...

Specs:

P5N-D Nforce 750i

SATA DVD Burner

1TB SATA Hard Drive

Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz

Geforce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit

2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 Memory

I try installing Kalyway 10.5.2, and iAtkos v2.0i

I manage to get kalyway to fully install :P but afterward it constantly restart or show the white apple loading screen then show an X.

with iAtkos... i manage to boot into installation screen where you choose your language... but then it freeze and nothing else. :D

I've tried everything!!! all kernel, drivers, patch, and nothing and i see that people with the same motherboard had succeed but somehow i cant!!! B)

To install Snow Leopard, you will first need to have a working Leopard OS X system installed first so that you can understand your system requirements...........so go to my Leopard nForce thread and start by reading post #1 slowly and carefully as it contains much information, including setting up the correct BIOS settings for OS X and why a PATA (IDE) DVDRW is recommended, kernel options, etc......I will answer your questions on Leopard if you post them in the Leopard thread........... :censored2:

Verdant, debug doesn't show anything. When my computer freezes the screens are off and I can't wake them (since it's frozen) or I am doing something like browsing the internet and it freezes out of nowhere. I never see any debug screen or anything You said it should show up on the desktop, but I usually have a window open...

That sounds like a system kernel panic rather than an app kernel panic.........

If you have two working OS X systems installed on your PC (as I always recommend), then boot into one system and download the standalone 10.6.4 Combo Update .dmg Installer.........run it and select the non-booted OS X system volume as your install location.........then do the same again, this time booting from the now 10.6.4 updated OS X system volume..........

hey PrettyBoySharnie,

I have similar hardware:

P5N-D Nforce 750i

SATA DVD Burner

1TB SATA Hard Drive

Core 2 Quad Q8200

Geforce 9800 GT 1GB

8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR2 Memory

...and I finally managed to install Leopard 1.5.6 on my PC. I suggest to use iPC 1.5.6, since others did not work for me, it was the only one to work on the first install.

Give it a try and let me know if you have any problems, I will tell you exactly what kexts I install along with iPC 1.5.6.

Now I'm stuck trying to install Snow Leopard; I'm carefully reading and following this brilliant guide, but for some reason it won't boot (black screen with flashing cursor...nothing else). :(

The black screen with flashing cursor shows that the Chameleon or PC_EFI bootloader (depending which boot file you used after installing Chameleon; see post #1) is either not installed at all, or installed improperly, or corrupted.....

You can but remember you are updating a running system...........so, if there are problems, they could be more difficult to fix...........

Well I took the risk and installed the combo update from my running OS. It was successful, but I guess I just have to wait and see if I ever get freezing anymore...By the way, I was already at 10.6.4

Thanks for your answer, Verdant.

I created an USB installer following the guide, and I managed to get into the installer (with other guides/methods I couldn't even do that...) and made a fresh install on the hdd.

Now, do I have to install a bootloader (Chameleon or PC_EFI) on the hdd in order to make it boot properly? Is it "PART D" of the guide that I have to follow now, right? Does it refer to installing FROM the USB installer created in Part C, TO an empty hdd?

Just finished installing...and surprisingly (for me) all went well. I could eventually solve the problems with my nvidia 9800GT 1gb (it caused artifacts on Leopard). But...now I'm having random crashes after about 4-5 minutes using Snow Leopard...

Is there any way to find when and why it's crashing?

Are you booting using arch=i386, or arch=x86_64?

1. Boot with -v arch=i386 and post the bootup screenshot

2. Put debug=0x100 in com.apple.Boot.plist

I'm booting using -x32.

I'm gonna try arch=i386 right now.

By the way, what should debug=0x100 do?

If you are using Chameleon boot file, use arch=i386, but if using PC_EFI boot file in place of the original Chameleon boot file, you can use arch=i386 or -x32 from v10.3 onwards, whereas for PC_EFI pre-v10.3, use -x32

debug=0x100 or debug=0x144 can sometimes stop OS X when running apps to show an inset debug message screen, which may point to the cause(s) of the crashes, i.e. kernel panics.......

OK.........no problem..........

BTW have you tried booting from your USB OS Xinstaller and using its Disk Utility to repair the permissions of your OS X system? If not, see if that improves matters.......

Also, which SL OS X version are you currently running?

If repairing permissions does not improve matters, then running the standalone 10.6.4 Combo Update installer will hopefully "clean" up the OS X system..........

Also, did your RTC patched DSDT.aml compile without any errors and/or warnings? If not zip it up and post me a download link and I will look at it later when I have some time............as I will be offline for a couple of hours now....

Yes, I've tried to follow the guide step by step, so I have two working OSX systems (Leo and Snow Leo).

What do you mean by "...then do the same again, this time booting from the etc. etc."? Are you talking about upgrading both the systems to 10.6.4? I'd like to keep the Leo install, just in case, and experiment with fixes and upgrades on the Snow Leo install.

Unfortunately, yes! The DSDT.aml compiled with 5 errors and a couple of warnings. I will post a link to the zipped .aml file later.

Thank you very much for your support.

Your approach is OK.........I have dual Leopard and dual SL volumes but some people only have/want SL installed.......

So, what I said applies only if you have a main and a backup Snow Leopard system..........

But in your case, if you have any problems with SL, then boot into the Leopard volume and run the standalone 10.6.4 Combo Update .dmg Installer to install/re-install 10.6.4 on the SL volume..........

Or, for example, you could boot into the SL volume and run the standalone 10.5.8 Combo Update .dmg Installer to install/reinstall 10.5.8 on the Leopard volume (this process takes more care since the Leopard /S/L/E/ directory is typically not as "vanilla" as the Snow Leopard /S/L/E/.....)

I will download the DSDT.aml file later........

So...

1) I've repaired the permissions on the Snow Leo disk, but I'm still having random crashes. This time it took longer for the crash to happen, but in the end..it happened...

2) I've downloaded the Combo Update 10.6.4 and tried to install it from Leo to Snow Leo disk, but it refuses to install it (it says that it needs Snow Leopard 10.6...)

3) Here's the .aml file: http://rapidshare.com/files/414268635/DSDT.zip

4) I've read around the net that having a Win7 disk WHILE installing Snow Leopard may cause troubles (random crashes, during the installation phase as well later on the running OS); can it be the cause of my problem, or at least ONE of the causes? Also, I have 8 gb of RAM...and I've read that it may causes problems, too (someone suggested to keep only 2 gb during the install phase, and add some more later).

Starting backwards:

4) As for Win7 HDD issue, from post #1 in this thread:

[4] The following issue identified by d00m42 may apply to nForce chipset MOBOs too

QUOTE “Found a BIG issue for those running a drive or partition with windows 7 installed and formated with NTFS!

Remove or disconnect your Windows 7 drive, or you will be getting OSX crashes, *ntfs corruption*, possible KP's”

So be sure that you disconnect all your Windows hard drives before installing OS X Snow Leopard and then reconnect after the installation is complete.

As for 8GB RAM issue, if you installed any one of:

AppleNForceATA.64AnV.kext/

AppleNForceATA.AnV.kext/

AppleNForceATA.slash.kext/

in /Extra/Extensions/ on the HDD SL OS X volume before installing OS X and boot the HDD, then it should not be an issue.......

3) I will look at this after I have double-checked on 2)
