According to boris's method- step 4

4 Edit ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin as follows: make sure these two lines show your device id and keep in mind, it's backwards:

<key>100271C2-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</key>

<string>100271C2-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</string>

I also think I changed this line, not sure but make sure this is how what your edited plist will show, pay attention to the last line.

<key>IOProviderClass</key>

<string>IONDRVFramebuffer</string>

I modded the ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin with the exact settings boris had minus his device id.

<string>100271c0-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</string>

</dict>

So I think there's no problem there- or is there? If there is then can someone with an ATI x1600xt fully working card post their ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin content on here... I hope I'm not breaking any rules.

Heres my ATIradeonX1000GA.plugin

And its Fully working

post-19727-1149378896_thumb.jpg

just discovered that when plugged into vga system and monitor completely shuts down the way its meant too

but when i waken it up again the monitor wont ciome back , But when plugged into the dvi port with supplied adapter it works perfect

How come ??????

Thanks curlyboy-

I've located the problem area which was in

<key>CFPlugInFactories</key>

<string>ATIRadeonX1000GAFactory</string> <---- I had this 100271c0-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e instead.

After correcting the above setting, I deleted both extensions and kext cache files and rebooted. Guess what? I got a black screen at the login in prompt.

Prior to editing the the file, I logged in using root so I don't have to fix the permissions. A further check, in safe mode, shows the correct permissions for all files!!!!

So I'm back to square one- the bloody card doesn't even work properly now.

Help!

what make of ATI 1600 is it you mines is the sapphire

also i know it would be a real pain but you could try from a clean install

cos if your the exact same as me i dont have a clue ? wouldnt have anything to with the actual monitor would it

it's exactly like yours ... I just attempted a clean install and I'm still getting that damn black screen with a mouse.

I'm going bananas 'ere ... Where's Boris?

I reinstalled, and to get it to work you only need to edit ATINDRV and ATIRadeonX1000.kext as boris outlined. The other files is not needed, and you don't need to edit any other files. Delete the .kextcache and .mkext but dont run kextcache before you have the working system.

As I have x1800 i need 10.4.5 ATINDRV.

You need just to put in the x1000.kext from 10.4.5 in place of the 10.4.6, and it works.

Keep in mind for the below I'm using an ASUS x1600 pro - but it's worth a try I think:

I had a similar problem. To fix it I:

1. Copied all 5 ATIRadeon files (kexts, plugin, ATINDRV) from 10.4.5 DVD to my installation (10.4.6)

2. Copied OpenGL.Framework from 10.4.5 DVD to my installation

3. Modified the files as per the original instructions

4. Cleared kext cache

5. Repaired permissions

6. Reboot

Do you have a 'PRO' card?

Black Knight: Sorry I havent had a chance to respond before now.

Im not sure what is causing your problems. I installed with the Myzar 10.4.4/5 disc, then followed only Quixos manual method to upgrade to 10.4.6 then SecUpd003. afaik Quixos method does not replace any frameworks or kexts, so it looks like im using 100% 10.4.5 solution.

BTW i first installed 10.4.4 from the myzar disc (ie deselected the 10.4.5 update) and boris solution was nonfunctional. i had to reinstall myzar 10.4.5 (ie this time i selected 10.4.5 update), tried boris solution and rebooted - working 100%. upgrading to 10.4.6 using Quixos manual method changed nothing.

I can only suggest you try something similar. Hope this helps!

Wow!

I am amazed at the amount of help all you guys are willing to give. I wish the entire world would do the same for the www.one.org ... Anyway, I'll give your methods a try even though I don't have a working installation of 10.4.5

So I should modify ATINDRV & ATIRadeonX1000.kext files only ... hmmmm wonder why this was not mentioned before- I went thru this forum a kazilion times. Perhaps I needed to sleep.

Here goes nothing- format/reinstall ... I'll let you guys know the outcome and many thanks

PS- as a precaution, do I install intel 900 video files option?

[ UPDATE ]

No go when editing only ATINDRV and ATIRadeonX1000.kext and deleting kextcache and mkext ... Blank Black Screen with Mouse pointer

Can someone email me the kext's needed from 10.4.5? - I'd appreciate that ...

Please pm me and I'll pm you right back with my email addy- Again, thanks for all the help!!!!

[ UPDATE 2 ]

Ok, I found out where I was messing up-

In ATIRadeonX1000GA.kext I had IONDRVFramebuffer instead of IOPCIFramebuffer

<key>Personality</key>
<dict>
	<key>IOProviderClass</key>
	<string>IOPCIFramebuffer</string> <----- was before IONDRVFramebuffer
</dict>

I managed to login in without the horrible black screen... However, I still have no QE/CI/QE2D support? Why is that?

I'm using kexts from 10.4.6 ... Thanks for the PM =)

Munky, I also installed Myzar's 10.4.4/5 install with the .5 update and then applied Boris's trick, but this made my OSX detect my card as having a 0x5a341002 instead of our normal 0x71091002. The wierd thing is that this only happens when ATINDRV.kext is loaded. If I remove it and reboot, I get QE/CI/GL with mouse tearing and now res changing (obviously). So, my guess is that it has something to do with having a crossfire motherboard as it has 2 PCIe x16 slots and a PCI-to-PCI bridge of 0x5a341002.

Does anyone else on this topic have a crossfire motherboard and have this working?

Are people seeing much increased performance with an ATI card as opposed to, say, a built-in GMA950? I understand games will be a lot faster, but I'm more interested in general GUI snappiness, Xbench scores, and the performance of apps like Lightroom/Aperture.

Thanks,

Thats strange because i have the exact same card as you and QE/CI/QE2D and GL woked out of the box for me. The only thing I cant seem to get working is Res swithcing. what is your vender ID???? maybe we can both get these problems fixed

TeKKi, I got the same problem as you have (black screen with mouse cursor). I installed using JAS 10.4.6 and selected the GMA900 option. Doing that installs the 10.4.5 OpenGL framework and it won't work with the X1000 drivers from 10.4.6. I used pascifist to install the opengl framework from the 10.4.6 update file on the DVD.

After doing that (and previously followed boris instructions for patching the driver files) it started to work for me.

Have been running in 1920x1200 since then (DVI) :-)

You sure do sound like you have the solution to my problem. I had a feeling it had something to do with Intel's 900GMA files... Ok, so you said use pascifist and 10.4.6 update file... Where do I get that? Do i have to reinstall again or is it simply replacing opengl [10.4.6 version] ?

You guys rock- regardless of whether I solve this or not... Keep up the good spirits!!!!

UPDATE

Downloading update 10.4.6 for OSx86 Intel from Apple dot com and I've installed pacifist 2.0 ... Bablefish, can you direct me on how to install openGL 10.4.6?

Thats strange because i have the exact same card as you and QE/CI/QE2D and GL woked out of the box for me. The only thing I cant seem to get working is Res swithcing. what is your vender ID???? maybe we can both get these problems fixed

I know it's strange-

device id: 0x71c0

Vendor Id: ATI (0x1002)

Ok- Now I'm literally this . . close to grabing my osx box and throwing it out of my window [i live on the sixth floor so it's a long way down]

Here's what I did-

I reformatted and installed Jas's 10.4.6 without Intel900GMA support and the bloody thing worked, as in I could see the login screen, but had some problem with boxes appearing everytime I clicked on something. I was not able to change resolution. GUESS WHAT though- QE/CI is enabled,,, FINALLY!!!

However, as soon as I modified the files according to Boris's method and to verify that I have done it right, I compared the files that curlyboy sent me to the ones I modified and everything matched. Rebooted and well, I was this close to singing [zippa deedoo daaaah] until I noticed that QE/CI aren't enabled anymore but I can now change the resolution and annoying boxes disappeared.

Now here's the messed up part- I attempted to replace the modified files with the originals thinking I'll go back to the original state with QE/CI enabled and the damn thing won't give me my QE/CI ....

Seriously- I wish I had a shotgun/AK47/C4 to blast the living transistors out of this box... It's a nice box though, invested alot in it $$$$- Guys,,,, I know I'm doing it right so what the hell is going on? HELP!

[[[[ THE SAGA CONTINUES ]]]]

hey tekki were getting there bro

listen m8 just another idea pain i know but why dont you do another clean install and just use the kext i sent you and only select on install intelbase sse3 and the 10.4.6 upgrade thats what i do and it works flawlessly

[ FINAL UPDATE - SOLVED ]
