MSoK
Hello, I tried your tutorial in running SL in Vmware and when i try to install SL, after a few seconds i have the error: "the cpu has been disabled by the guest operating system". Things to consider: i have an E8200 Intel cpu with VT enabled in bios, i tried adding paevm="TRUE" in vmx, i tried 2 SL iso images (the one "made by Hazard" and the one "patched for PC", the Retail one has another extension - not iso, so i can't use it in vmware). What else can i try, or what do you think is the problem ? Thanks. The tutorial is based on Leopard with additions in this topic to support SL. So here are a few pointers. You need to use the retail version of SL, the other "hacked" versions may work but not guaranteed and not supported in this topic, also only VM Workstation 7 will run SL. In terms of installing from the retail SL dmg, that is supported in Workstation 7, and can be mounted directly, if not you can convert to an .iso with either UltraISO or I have found ImgBurn works very well converting the Retail SL DVD .dmg to a .iso Now if you follow the manual, reference the first post in this topic, or it is in the darwin-200.zip which you will need. Create a new Virtual Machine in Workstation using FreeBSD or FreeBSD-64 as the guest OS, fire up the VM once and then shut it down. NOTE: FreeBSD by default creates an IDE hard disk, which can cause issues, delete and create a SCSI hard drive, the FreeBSD-64 by default creates a SCSI hard drive, so fine. Also I would vreate the VM at least 32GB, 16GB is a bit tight, and as long as you thin provision it it will grow as you need it. Next make the .vmx amendments as follows: guestOS = "darwin10" for 32-bit or guestOS = "darwin10-64" for you guessed it! ich7m.present = "TRUE" keyboard.vusb.enable = "TRUE" may change to "FALSE" if issues with the keyboard mouse.vusb.enable = "TRUE" may change to "FALSE" if issues with the mouse monitor.virtual_exec = "hardware" monitor.virtual_mmu = "software" smc.present = "FALSE" OK, before we can fire up the amended VM we need to get the darwin.iso in place to allow SL to be installed. So unzip the darwin-200 into a directory, and then overwrite the darwin.iso with the one from either the snowny or wks7 zips, the wks7 zip preferred. Then run the setup.cmd install from within the darwin-200 directory, this should bring up a CMD window and copy and backup a number of files, see the manual for details. You are now ready to install SL, mount the retail SL DVD or your .dmg or .iso image in to your VM and then you should be able to install SL, as per the manual. Once complete, you should be able to update to the latest patch 10.6.2, probably better to download it from the Apple website rather than use the software update feature, as some people have had issues with the software update for the latest patch. Finally you can get enhanced graphics and audio drivers from Zenith432 at the following website: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vmsvga2/files/ Good luck, hope this consolidates content from this topic. The tutorial is based on Leopard with additions in this topic to support SL. P.S. BIG thanks to Donk and Zenith432, and the other contributors of this topic for all the information provided in the pointers in the previous post. Cyberspace
Hello everyone! I am pretty new to this topic and want to install mac os x sl on vmware wks 7 with a win 7 ult. x64 host. The first step i need is a SL DVD wich i can use. I do not have any mac yet. Therefore i do not have any cd/dvd to do a upgrade and i think this one (http://future-x.de/futurex/apple-mac-os-x-...eutsch-p-22210/) is not suitable for a clean new installation in vmware. Can someone tell me where i can get/buy the needed dvd? porkerjoe
OK, the audio problem can be resolved with Zenith432's excellent audio drivers at the following site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vmsvga2/files/ Version 1.0.2 for Leopard should be installed, and following a re-boot audio should work and can be seen under Go>Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup>Audio Devices, should be AC97 Audio (PCM), but it will still not show up in About This Mac More Info... You can also alter the Audio Output format between 44.1KHz and 48KHz if you get any issues. Hope this helps! After installing v1.0.2 for Leopard I still see no audio devices in Go>Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup>Audio Devices. Maybe I need to do something to enable Leopard to see the VMWare hardware? Or do I need to uninstall the AC97 Kext that I installed previously? Thanks in advance! samp0
I had also this VT-x problem at first but that "cold boot" helped me for that. I have noticed this problem before with Ubuntu64bit but could not fix it then. Now I know that fix is cold boot when VM begins to mess up. I am not sure yet is that VT-x problem coming after I set my Windows to sleep and wake it up or is problem coming from somewhere else? Its my guess causing this problem... Computer specs: Abit IP35-e, Q6600@3GHz, 8G ram, HD4870 Windows 7Pro, VMWare WS 7 I have made some tests with my VT-x problem and it is definitely caused by computer sleep mode. Every time when I set my computer to sleep or it goes to sleep after some time - I am not able to start SnowLeopard guest after. This must be some sort of bios problem with my IP35 mobo because I can't believe that Windows is causing this. When I face this problem I had to make cold boot every time and VT-x problem is gone after that... This is annoying problem for me because I normally don't power off my computer ever - just set to sleep. I am not sure if there is some bios settings that could fix this problem. Maybe I should try default bios settings first. And yes I have latest bios version installed to mobo. -samp0 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172474-vmware-mac-os-x-guest-package-for-esx-workstation-player-server-and-fusion/page/39/#findComment-1362820 Share on other sites

Should work OK, just to confirm you have sound enabled in your VM settings, I know Grandmother and sucking eggs! On Zenith432's site there is an uninstall script, so I would run it then remove the AC97, then reinstall both from Zenith432's 1.0.2 driver which is an option. Hope it works for you! It had the same error when I used Leopard retail dmg (with guestOS = "darwin") If you get EBIOS read errors when starting up the emulation, make sure that your IDE CD drive type is "cdrom-raw". This will allow you to load straight from the retail DVD. # Settings for physical CDROM drive in .vmx file ide1:0.present = "TRUE" ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw" ide1:0.startConnected = "TRUE" ide1:0.fileName = "D:" ide1:0.autodetect = "FALSE" ide1:0.exclusive = "TRUE" Also make sure you add or change lines in .VMX to this. One or more of your graphics cards does not support Quartz Extreme" Is there a patch for this? I have a ATI Radeon HD 3650 (laptop) as well as an integrated Intel video chip in this puppy. Dan2k3k4
Ok, I have Leopard installed as a guest os on VMware Server... except the internet/network doesn't work... I've read around a little, but can't seem to search these forums (some server error) I had the guest os set to NAT w/ e1000, but that didn't work, so I tried Bridged and that didn't work either... tried removing the ethernet0.virtualDev="e1000" line from the VMX too but that didn't work... came across a part in the Wiki that says I need do some sudu find Maxxuss line, however I don't have that Maxxuss kext file... Uh, I'm sure I've missed something somewhere, I'm way too tired right now, it's 6am, d'oh... but at least I'm at about 70% done for setting up my Mac install =) (still need to fix internet, update to 10.5.7, install Xcode, ensure it all works, possibly set up graphics? ensure sound works etc.) Cheers for the guide though, it did help, a lot. klh6686
ok so I have a setup that I have been working on for a little bit now and things finally started to go smoothly. First, my hardware is as follows: i7 920 msi x58m 6gb ddr3 ati 4670 bluray and hdd's I succesfully installed Snow Leopard using the manual provided and then used the custom video driver to get it where everything is working pretty well, I can't play youtube 1080 videos though so it's not perfect. but the system seems pretty responsive. I didn't have audio so i used the custom audio driver.. It gave me audio, but there is approx a 1 sec delay on the audio. for example, i can click the volume up and the little "blurp" noise isn't heard until 1 sec later. also when i watch a video clip downloaded in itunes, it's not as delayed as the volume blurp, but it is delayed, almost as if there is an issue starting the sound, but once it's started its ok. edit: i did have to edit the boot.plist to give me full 1920x1200x32 resolution. Attached is my vmx. vmx.txt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/172474-vmware-mac-os-x-guest-package-for-esx-workstation-player-server-and-fusion/page/39/#findComment-1368922 Share on other sites
markeddy998
I have OS 10.6 Snow Leopard up and running under VMWare Workstation 7 on Vista 64-bit and it's been VERY stable. This is on an Alienware m15x laptop. My only outstanding issue that I have right now is I am still unable to get the Audio to work. I have downloaded the latest installation packages from the http://sourceforge.net/projects/vmsvga2/files/ link. I have run each package respectively and rebooted and checked in the Audio/MIDI for the VMWare defined device and it's not there. I have also ran the uninstall.sh script, rebooted and installed each respective driver with NO success. Any other thoughts on why sound is not working?...it's not really a make or break and will not hinder me from reading the Apple Training book and certifying on OS X 10.6 for the ACSP, but if possible it would be nice to get it working. My Alienware m15x has the onboard Realtek HD Audio controller on the mainboard. I did check Realtek's website but was unable to find anything related to Mac support.
