Sound works fine for me with no stuttering whatsoever.

I'm using Titan.kext and the very latest auto-fsb Netkas kernel- I have no idea how you managed to get sleep mode working.

Can you confirm if you are using the very latest Darwin 8.9.1 kernel? you can do this by opening up Terminal.app and typing: uname -a

Which 10.4.8 kexts are you using for your 10.4.9 installation? as I actually updated mine manually, not using JaS' combo update.

Perhaps there is something you have done differently that has allowed your sleep mode to function correctly.

Thanks for the guide, Devilhood! I've just purchased a laptop like yours and the guide was a big big big help in getting OSX running smoothly!

My pleasure; if you need further help feel free to ask me any questions.

I just use Jas combo update, thats all.I have Darwin 8.9.1 kernel now.

mmm... msh - what Video card do you have and what laptop, I have the E1705 with the integrated 945 videocard - upgraded to new kernel but sleep does not work! Anybody else got this working?? Maybe I did something wrong.

I have Dell Inspiron 9400 with Geforce 7800go card.Install with Titan.kext.I just use that upgrade pack from Jas.That upgrade my kernel to 8.9.1 and software to 10.4.9,and sleep mode is working now.

System is not slow,it was just on first boot, now it´s normal. The only thing is remaining,is Duo core support and Intel wireless. Some have no problem with Duo core with new kernel, but i don´t know how to run Duo core with 8.9.1 kernel.

Yeah, I mentioned at the bottom of the guide regarding the dual core problem.

It only happens with particular laptop manufacturers and has something to do with the way their BIOS functions.

IBM Thinkpad and the Acer Aspire do not have dual core issues- Prasys is looking more thoroughly into the issue I believe.

Ok, I'm going to look at the kext differences for JaS' update to see if I can get sleep working.

Hello. I just bought a Dell Inspiron 9400 but I have problems with the firewire port to connect it to an M-audio 1814. I am sorry to ask in this forum about this problem on XP, but I want to know two things:

1) Do the ones who have FW 1814 or FW 410 installed running on OSX have full compatibility? (Because I can use it for playback, but when I tried to record the pannel getz freeze and it records a hum constant noise)

2) Could it be possible that this problem with the Ricoh OHCI will be solved with windows vista drivers, or is the hardware incompatible?

Again, I am sorry to bother you with this XP problem, but I don´t find another place to ask, and it seems that, you have worked a lot with this problem.

I am only trying to now if I would have to get OSX running to get the full features of my M-Audio 1814.

Thanks Again.

Sebastian.

Inspiron 9400 - Dual 2 Core 2.00 ghz - 2 gigs Ram 667 Mhz - !00 Gb HD 7200 RPM - M-Audio 1814 Firewire

Yeah, it seems to be a notoriously popular issue.

Natit is supposed to solve it for a lot of people, but I tried that last night and it didn't help.

I mentioned the problem to np_ at MacVidia, so we may eventually see a new version of NvidiaEFI that resolves this issue.

My M-Audio FW 410 works perfectly for me on OS X with low latencies, both when I play and record.

Upgrade your BIOS to the very latest A07 as Dell supposedly addressed this issue due to a large amount of complaints.

Also, I suggest reading through the earlier pages of this thread as this issue was brought up a few times.

There is a specific way of fixing the issue under XP, involving some manual registry editing that forces the Firewire to function with maximum speed capabilities.

Thanks Devilhood. After reading all the thread I´ve tried to solve the problem, but none of the possible solutions worked for me. I hope that M-audio will release drivers for vista. A lot of people that I know use OSX in audio works, maybe I follow your guide, and I try to install it on my dell. I prefer this to sell my laptop or my M-audio 1814.

Thanks again!!! If anyone solve the kind kind of problem that I have, please post the way to deal with this.

The dual core problem is specifically BIOS related, so I'm guessing it wont be an easy task for any dev's out there.

The auto-speaker mute is another story altogether though, Taruga said that it would be a tough one to implement. I can't remember any specifics, but it was discussed briefly on his thread and also on the IRC.

devilhood: What file did you use with AppleHDPatcher in order to get sound? I'm having trouble getting clear audio

edit: I'm a muppet! I found the file you posted in post 142.

I've just used the Sigmatel codec file you pasted, and I've noticed a few problems. First one is I have absolutely no bass. It's as if the subwoofer in the laptop is not even on. Secondly, plugging in headphones does not mute the speakers.

Those problems have been brought up before and Taruga is aware of them :)

I have no idea if they are fixable or if he intends to fix them with his next release.

Oh well, at least I've got some kind of sound at the moment. Better than nothing! And Taruga is doing a wonderful job.

I'm really happy with my new laptop so far. It's running OSX beautifully, and even better with the latest 10.4.9 kernel (solves a strange audio stuttering issue I had).

Shame I've had to set the BIOS to 1 core only :(

I just updated the guide again with a few minor notes, corrected a mach_kernel typo thanks to dogbert75 and also sorted out the first part, explaining the whole cpu 'stuttering' issue a bit more clearly ;)

My only hope is Dell manage to put out a BIOS that works better with Hackintosh installations, as well as finally including full AHCI support.

Thanks for the recognition...but it wasn't necessary... just glad to help make your wonderful guide even better. I'm trying to work on a similar guide for the latitude d820, but am finding a lot of overlap (of course) and don't want to come across that I am just copying all the hard work you have put into this...

Yeah, a lot of the Dell comps seem to be using a similar hardware-base :)

Perhaps if you arrange your guide in a step by step fashion, something which I will eventually do when the Intel Wireless driver works properly, because then (with the help of Prasys) I will also put together a custom install package specifically for Inspiron users.

Cool! And if we have properly working audio, that would make one awesome install package. And perhaps the possibility of a customer 10.4.9 install DVD for Dell laptops

did you get to work the wireless already? i have almost the same specs with the 1390 Card and i just managed it. i don't know if you made it too so i wait till someone give me an answer before i start writing needless instructions.

devihood,

When i update my hacky to 10.4.9 and 8.9.1.. sounds got wierd, "choppy" kinda!!.. then uppdate to a new kernel, boom!!.. its working again, just like before.

Darwin iDell 8.9.1 Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.1: Thu Mar 26 20:55:00 PST 2007; netkas: 792.18.15~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386

regards,

I recommend using the Netkas Semthex SSE2 kernel as you wont need dsmos.kext or the now obsolete r3d3.kext in your Extensions folder.

On an SSE3 system, it skips the emulation code for SSE2 CPU's so it's safe to use and you will get the same speeds :)

Just make sure you delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext otherwise it will kernel panic.

Grab it off the hackint0sh irc 1049 channel.

I'm using the SSE3 HPET AutoFSN kernel. Are you saying that the Netkas SSE2 kernel is better to run?

Yeah, I actually Xbenched higher with it surprisingly :thumbsup_anim:

The difference isn't really noticeable though, so to save any fuss you should really just stick with the Mar 24 netkas release with dsmos.kext until a proper netkas/semthex kernel is released.
