Hm, I played WOW for several hours yesterday and I didn't see any glitches. But then again I'm using a 9800, altough it's basically the same as an 8800 and I'm also using EFI-Strings from this GPU.

What I find quite interessting is the fact that my graphicscard suddendly seems to be aware of its adjustable and scalable fan. Since 10.5.6 the fan gets faster when used in 3D and slows down when on the desktop. Don't quite know if I like this new behaviour. But then again, that would the normal behavior of this card under WindowsXP/Vista - so problably it's ok...

Anyone else noticed "AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext"? Dunno if it was there before 10.5.6 :D

It was not there in my backup of 10.5.5.

Just tested WOW and it worked ok , do you have a weird glitch when your Leopard starts up with the 9800 ?

I noticed that it varies a bit depending on the efi string but i can always see it (as some others that posted in this thread) .

But wow ran fine with no glitches etc , but when starting up Leopard for a second a corrupt image pops up (for examplea bunch of different colors in lines etc)

guys, I updated without any patch, only follow the 1.5.3 guide by netkas with the appleintelpower... script and...works like a charm, I juts reinstalled appleHDA.kext, repair permissions and that's it. (sorry my bad english)

My Hack

Intel Core2Duo 6300 1,86

Asus P5LD2-VM (I also have an Asus P5Ld2-VM-SE without problems :P)

Asus EN7300GT with natit dual

ALC882 with taruga's patch

Firewire work and recognized fine on System Profiler

AppleSMBIOS with AppleSMBIOSEFI for chun-nan

edit: 2 GB Kingston DDR2 667

Sofware

pcefi v.8 by netkas, brazilmac method, updated by netkas 10.5.3 method to 10.5.6, vanilla kernel 9.6.0, I wanna say thankyou guys for all your work! :D

That really is quite interesting, quite different from what is recommended, yet I keep reading about people who updated this way.

No, I haven't seen any weird glitches at startup yet.

Huh - so I guess this is something new from Apple which is managing the fan of my GPU. Guess they learnt from all those overheating 9600 *SCNR*

Copy the file contained in the attachment into the /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/MacOS/ directory over-writing the one already there then as root in Terminal.

 rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Caches
 rm -r /System/Library/Caches
 rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

Reboot then hit the F8 key when the drive starts to be accessed to get to the Darwin boot loader to type in then enter key -f to force the reloading/caching of all .kext on the system it should now work.

Hi all:

I'm still having a bit of trouble with the Time Machine fix after updating to 10.5.6. I was getting the error re: "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found." When I tried the fix quoted above, I received a different error: something about how the IONetworkingFamily.kext was not installed correctly and cannot be used.

The only way I can get the "not installed correctly" error to go away is to reinstall the IONetworkingFamily.kext from 10.5.5 (my own backup installed via osx tools). But this just puts me back to where I started: Getting the error "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found."

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Got my machine to update to 10.5.6 with just the usual terminal AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext script and updating to EFI V9.

Everything seems fine, except my ethernet now doesn't work. Shows up in the system prefs, lets me enter my IP info, but says the cable is disconnected (Which it is not).

Any Ideas?

Machine is running a Intel D945GCCR Motherboard with a C2D. Up until now I have been using the AppleIntel8255.kext for the ethernet driver, but 10.5.6 seems to have broken that.

Thanks.

hey, just updated to 10.5.6. had to update efi to version 9 first and install chameleon. then fix the dsdt and update. after updating on the second restart i was back on my desktop, had to replace gma kexts and remove applecpuPWM kext. now its working ok. whats not working is:

my cpu is 3.8GHz instead of 2.13, theres a problem gathering info about hardware and on boot i have pcgenusbehci error. i still can use usb, however.

thanks for help!

I used my iDeneb 10.5.5 install to put 10.5.6 retail on another drive. Then I applied Weaksauce's UniverstalInstaller (all options) and added the extensions.kext that I found for the UD3R board (should be similar). Reboot KP'd but was OK after a second boot with -f -v. Fixed audio, as usual. Then I changed the AppleSMSBios as per http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=108606.

Now, most things work fine. For some reason, my XBenches are a bit faster than in 10.5.5 (around 200 vs. 180). Also, almost every reboot results in a KP but booting with -f -v works fine. Weird.

One problem is that when the display goes to sleep and I try to wake it up, all I see is static. I have the computer set to never sleep, so I think this is a display isssue. Anyone else seen this? I read a few hundred posts here, but I didn't see this specifically mentioned.

Thanks for the advice.

Probably that is due to problems in the new drivers , i get some weird colored lines mixed up with what desktop looked like before rebooting for a second when i boot up leopard .

In games etc is fine , only other problem with it is after installing the newest quicktime + h.264 thingie and opening itunes or quicktimes it causes small mouse lags every 10 seconds or so .

Speaking of wich ... think i will take a picture next time i do it , put my camera into some use lol :D

Yep, can confirm same glitches at startup - background image shows up corrupted for a second, then disappear and system start up as before. In addition still experiencing that annoying mouse lags while iTunes or QuickTime is opened. I have 8800gt (gigabyte) with original mac pro EFI string on BadAxe2 Mobo (see my spec. below).

Everything else is running fine - and system appears to be snappier.

I'm aware of posted workarounds (downgrade NVidia drivers or QT), but I'd like to know the root cause and resolve it without "tweaking" the system.

Yeah same , at the moment i just went for a fresh 10.5.4 then updated itunes + safari + ran the combo update for 10.5.6 that i had downloaded and updated like that .

Everything is fine since the mouse lags issue comes from QuickTime itself .

I do want to see this fixed tho , the initial image corruption + mouse lags means there is some incompatibilty at least with some of the 8800's , this is quite puzzling .

We need some user with a macpro + 8800GT and some time to do some testing :hysterical: .

By the way what about startup time ? is it taking you the same as before ? bit faster ? for me it seems a bit slower (the spinning thing , before it would spin 3 times and load desktop , now it's 4 or more (most of times more).

Thanks a lot for that! It was the only method that worked for me with the voodoo kernal. But I have just one question, what are the 5 or 6 newer .kext that you copied over? I can't tell which are the newer ones because they are all showing the same date and time.

Thanks again.

you are looking at Extensions/.

check Extensions.5.6/ for newer kexts.

Nope I was looking at 5.6. I have done a reinstall, to try a previously mention update without dsdt or voodoo, etc and they are displaying correctly now. I copied them over and some seem to cause problems preventing osx from booting. I've got a list of the kexts and I'm in the process of narrowing down which ones arent causing problems.

So far System.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext seem to be the ones preventing me from booting up with the new kexts.

EDIT

Ok finally got all the working kexts. I'll listen them here just incase someone else get's the same problem as I do with all files having the same date and time...

IPFirewall.kext

IONDRVSupport.kext

IOGraphicsFamily.kext

AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext

Updated to 10.5.6 on my Sony VAIO VGN-C220E laptop from 10.5.5 (originally Kalyway 10.5.2). Installed EFI V9 + DSDT patch (I don't know what good that did.) System updated just fine with Apple Update. Using vanilla kernel.

Lost:

Graphics (GMA 950) (Works after re-installing Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 and reinstalling kexts that were working under 10.5.5)

Built in PS2 keyboard and alps trackpad (regained with older acpiplatform kext installed)

Sound (ALC 262) (I have regained speaker output only with azalia audio kext. ALCinject and applehda kexts don't work.)

Sleep function

Still worked:

Airport (atheros -genuine apple airport extreme card)

USB

Untested:

Ethernet (marvell yukon)

Dec 21 Update: Sleep function works. fixed itself?

Has any got an ATI X1300 (with Dev ID 0x7183) to work with ATI_For_QE_CI on their 10.5.6 install? I'm having problems with hanging at the blue screen just before the desktop loads. I had it working on my previous 10.5.4 install so this is a real pain...

If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

Confirming. Even I didn't use dsmos.kext . I just forget to replace "don't steal mac osx" with dsmos. no dsmos.kext in my extension. Is this ok? Everithing seems to work. Only thing I noticed is my wakeing from sleep. My comp wake up but my display stays off - but cant confirm for shure no visual contact. :) This could be by graphic drivers, i thing.

Fixed, just plug monitor to the 2. port. everything working now. Merry christmazzzzzzz.

Mixed results with upgrade. Just a quick note that I was able to update from iDeneb 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 on my Dell Latitude D820. I of course lost sound, keyboard/mouse, but I expected that and those can be repaired. The odd thing was that I lost the ability to use my USB thumbdrive, although my external USB mouse and keyboard work fine. Which is kind of a bummer as that is where I keep all of my tools/utilities.

Anyone got any ideas on that one?

I might just wait for a 10.5.6 distro, I am sure that all the usual suspects are working hard on them as I type this message.

A.

Have tried almost every possible permutation with and without dsdt patch, with and without power management, with and without dsmos/disabler, with and without Voodoo final release and always end with the still waiting for root device message shown here.

This P4 on an Asus PG5 was running 10.5.2 and 10.5.5 before the update (using combo) but now it seems borked. Any idea why?
