Success and here’s how it happened. Please note that I take no credit and I’m going to list the steps as I recall executing them that yielded the successful results. I’m posting this only as aid to those like me that have been working for some time trying to get the Zotac 9500GT 1GB GDDR2 PCI Express 2 card fully working under SL 10.6.3.

Base system:

Gigabyte EP45-UD3L

Intel E2180 2.0 GHz Processor

4 GB of DDR2 667 MHz Memory

250 GB Sata Harddrive

Lite-On DVD Drive

I’ve updated the bios on the motherboard to the Cartri modded Bios version 0.7m.

I’m running SL 10.6.3 with all updates available as of 4/15/10.

I’m running Chameleon 2.0-RC4 bootloader. (myHack_Installer_1.0)

In my “/Extra” folder are the following:

com.apple.Boot.plist

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>6</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string></string>

<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>

<string>y</string>

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1024x768x32</string>

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>y</string>

<key>PciRoot</key>

<string>1</string>

<key>DSDT=cartri</key>

<string>DSDT=cartri</string>

</dict>

</plist>

Extensions.mkext

/Extensions

/Themes (installed and used by bootloader)

Also of interest I’m sure, are the contents of my “/Extra/Extensions”:

FakeSMC.kext

HDAEnabler.kext

OpenHaltRestart.kext

Orangeconfix.kext

Going into tonight, I had everything as described above and two extra files in the “/Extra/Extensions” folder. I had NVInject.kext and NVEnabler 64.kext in the folder. When I’d boot into SL in 64bit mode, I had the same problems as everyone else. My video card was recognized as a Nvidia 9500GT with 1GB of memory and had all resolutions available but no QE/QI.

Tonight I stumbled upon a newsgroup discussion where someone listed a terminal command for enabling Quartz GL in Snow Leopard:

$ sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver QuartzGLEnabled -boolean YES

The author then says that he modded his DSDT and removed all NVInject and NVEnabler kext and rebooted and his 9500GT now had QE/QI enabled.

Well, since I’m using a modded bios that removes the need for a DSDT file I was unsure whether this method would work but what the heck, I’ve tried all else why not this.

I open a terminal and ran the Quartz GL enabling command above.

I deleted all the NVxx kexts from /E/E.

I ran “Kext Utility” and repair permissions on Extensions and rebuilt the Extensions.mkext files

I crossed my fingers and rebooted my system.

The first reboot was not totally successful. I arrived at desktop with some minor distortion and a frozen cursor. I shut down and restarted the system and the second boot was perfect, right to desktop. First thing I did was look at the Graphics/Display information and here’s what I found:

GeForce 9500 GT:

Chipset Model: GeForce 9500 GT

Type: GPU

Bus: PCIe

Slot: Slot-1

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 1024 MB

Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Device ID: 0x0640

Revision ID: 0x00a1

ROM Revision: xx.xx.xx - internal

Displays:

HF229:

Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz

Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Rotation: Supported

Display Connector:

Status: No Display Connected

The only difference I saw was my ROM Revision was now showing “xx.xx.xx - internal” Before it was showing something related to NVInject.

I then opened up Dashboard, added a Widget and got the “water effect”.....SUCCESS! QE/QI appears to be working. I then opened a jpg image with Preview and it displayed the image. I opened Front Row and played a movie preview. I even ran XBench and all the video tests completed successfully!

I hope this helps someone working on the Zotac 9500GT 1GB... it will fully function under 10.6.3.

PS: I know someone is going to ask so here’s the answer. My monitor is connected to the vga output on the video card. I’ve not tested any of the other video outputs on the card.

9500GT beats up on GT220? (shouldn't the reverse be true?)

Doing a system upgrade on another machine, I had a spare GT220 to play with: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127455

by most reviews (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php), its supposed to be _marginally_ better than the 9500GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127419) I am currently using (460 vs 361 on the passmark site) (FWIW, in case anyone wants to use this card, I plugged in the 220 and it came right up.)

But when I ran Xbench, I see (green is the 9500GT, red is the GT220)

Quartz 268.95 -> 191.70

OpenGL 187.51-> 151.08

any ideas why its doing so badly compared to the 9500? I expected the direction of these #'s to be reversed, with the GT220 doing better than the 9500GT.

So I have just finished building my first hackintosh, but when I power it on nothing appears on my 20'' cinema display. It's the non led model with no speakers and no webcam.

I have an nvidia 9500gt, and gigabyte x58 ud3r.

I've read somewhere the nvidia cards do not start the dvi port until a driver is loaded... what do you think?

The thing is I can't install anything without a screen...

The ACD has a DVI-D port, and it works fine on my macbook pro. But that shouldn¡t be a problem as the DVI port on the nvidia is dual (analog and digital).

I've also tried hooking it to a bravia screen using a dvi to hmdi converter and nothing...

Any ideas?

TIA

XFX 9500GT 512mb (GDDR3 Version)

I am looking into the card listed in the title. the GDDR3 version of the 9500GT made by XFX

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814150459

I am using this as an Install card for OSx Snow Leopard. to get the thing running. and than I will handle the Kexts for my main video card. I just need to know if this specific card is out of the box compatible with snow leopard? or if anybody knows of another 9500GT with GDDR3 that runs out of the box.

and the reason why GDDR3 matters for a card i'm only using for the install is because after I am done using the card for that purpose. I am going to put that in another computer.

Someone knows the right NVCAP for HDMI+DVI without vga? I have a ZOTAC 9500gt 512 silent with VGA+HDMI+DVI. VGA and DVI works well, but i want to use dual monitor from HDMI+DVI.

How did you get dvi to work?, i have a 1GB Zotac GeFrorce 9500GT vga + hdmi + dvi, and only vga and hdmi work (dvi gives black screen) and hdmi is buggy.

I have MSI 9500GT DDR2 512MB RAM. The ports are DVI, VGA and HDMI (from the motherboard side). I used NVEnabler to make it work first. Then used ioreg -lw0 to get the nvcap string.

I'm running 10.6.3 without NVEnabler. I'm using mobo spdif to MSI spdif connector and sending audio+video over HDMI.

I have already installed Snow Leopard on Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard with two Nvidia GT9500 cards. Everything work except the video cards. I tried NVEnabler, NVInjcetion, but doesn't work. If the NVEnabler 64 bit kext enabled, the system doesn't start. The system isn't 64 bit. Somebody knows the solution?

Try removing one of the cards and using the NvEnabler. Sli on OSX is quite difficult..

Hi, I am trying to run the 9500GT card on snow Leopard (not updated at all) on an AMD system. So far I have gotten everything else to work. The resolution is where it needs to be but the system still only reports that there is 32mb of video memory. I have fried NVinstaller, efistudio, and some other NV video driver, not sure what it was cause it caused more problems than it fixed (graphics coruption and lowered res). The biggest problem I am having is when doing anything the graphics is slugish.

If you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The video cards Sparkle 9400gt & 9500GT work simply with "Chameleon RC4" + "GraphicEnabler" in com.apple.Boot.plist. Other GPU like nVidia GTX275 need NVenabler.kext or EFI-STRING.

Now I will try to explain how to extract NVCAP from your VGA bios, which then you need to generate the EFI STRING.

first get yourself a usb stick. they are so cheap now imo everyone should have at least one of them instead of a floppy drive.

you will need to download 2 pieces of software in order to do this. ive uploaded both of them for you.

>1st is a small utility from hp to make a usb stick bootable: http://rapidshare.com/files/112382685/SP27608.zip

>2nd is the actual bootable files you need to add to the usb stick: http://rapidshare.com/files/112382778/bootme.zip

Making a bootable DOS USB Key:

1) Extract and nstall the HP USB Drive program.

2) Extract the DOS boot files somewhere just remember where you extracted them. Let's for now say we extracted them to C:\bootme\ (if you do not have this directory it will prompt if it should make it answer yes or extract them someplace you know where they will be. remember we will need to find these in a minute)

3) Run the hp utility from windows. (VISTA: You need to start the HP Drive Key Program as an administrator by RIGHT CLICKING the icon and selecting "Run as Administrator").

4) Insert a USB stick and it should install the drivers automatically if this is the first time using it, if not they should already be installed now. Backup if need!!!!

5) in the hp "drive key" program Choose FAT32 as the filesystem. call the volume whatever you want i call mine dosboot, but it doesn't matter. Under "Format Options" check the box next to "Quick Format" and "Create a DOS startup disk" . Choose the button next to "Using DOS system files located at:" and click the little browse button "..." next to the blank and navigate to C:\bootme (or wherever you extracted the DOS boot files earlier). Click OK.

Now click "Start" and the HP Drive Key utility will turn your USB device into a bootable DOS disk! It will popup a window asking you to confirm! answer ok and it will continue.

6) Extract then copy the folder NVFLASH to USB stick. Copy NVCAPMaker.zip to USB stick. Restart and boot from USB stick. After the floppy disk has loaded, type "cd nvflash" without quotes and press enter. Then type "nvflash -b backup.rom" without quotes, then press enter. this will save your current bios on the USB stick as backup.rom.

7) Reboot and boot from MacOSX. Extract "NVCAP Maker" to your desktop, run it and select your backup.rom. This is your NVCAP for OSXTOOL.

Greetings

Hi !

I wan't an Video card FULLY compatible with mac OS X (10.6.4 here).

I have actually full vanilla install (NOTHING is modified into my Snow Leopard Partition, all kexts are in the EFI Partition).

I see that video card : Twintech GeForce 9500 GT 512Mo

But I read that : NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro (early 2009)

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC002ZM/A

And read that : Note: According to this thread the GT 120 is in fact a rebranded GeForce 9500 GT.

I can buy the 9500 (45E) or GT 120 (130E) ?

I have two 24" monitor in DVI at 1920X1200x32

My MANLI 9500GT 512Mb, works with VGA, NOT DVI, and i'll test in HDMI mode next time.

I only use Graphics enabler in boot.aplle.com.plist and graphics enabler 64.kext

So VGA works very well, i hope the HDMI too.

I have iatkos s3 which is 10.6.3 running fine on mine...used NVenabler and it recognized my card fine...The install takes forever though...

I just wanted to thank everyone at InsanelyMac for all of the information floating around. I managed to successfully integrate a XFX 9500 GT 512 with my current 10.6.4 OS X just using the GraphicsEnabler string. So I'm now able to use my monitor SyncMaster Samsung 23" at its native resolution 2048x1152, however, there is only one minor issue with this screen resolution, it seems that there is a slight (5-10%) vertical stretch (take close look at the font).

Please see the attached photo for reference.

Any ideas and suggestions?

Please help!

I have an EVGA GeForce 9500GT 1024MB Dual DVI (DVI/DVI/TVout) hooked to 40" Samsung via DVI/VGA adapter. I have read this thread inside and out and tried just about everything before posting and now I'm really hoping someone can give me some direction.

My system is Dell Dimension 5150 P4 3.2GHz w/ iDeneb 1.6 lite 10.5.8 and Chameleon RC4 installed. I have not been able to boot normally, but can set the system up in safeboot (-x). I will post my outputs below.

As per this thread, I have tried:

- FreeDOS and NVFlash to get ROM dump for my card (NVCAP 04000000000003000c0000000000000700000000)

- Custom EFI string using OSx86 Tools (worked to get card recognized in System Profiler and gives all resolutions, changing fine w/ no black or blue screens or artifact)

(Click to see bigger picture-- kept thumbs small for thread)

- Edited NVDAResman.kext and NVDANV50.kext to add DevID 0x0640

But I am still unable to boot successfully and get the following output:

normalbootverbose.jpg

In safe boot, I get this instead:

safebootverbose.jpg

...Which makes me think that it is the graphics (the extra lines about ALCinject are from trying to fix the Sigmatel sound card and not related, they were not there on previous installs without sound fix attempt and the rest were the same).

I have tried TONS of previous installs as well, with every graphics enabler (NVInject 1024, NVEnabler, NVDarwin), with edited or unedited DevID strings in them and the nVidia 9000 V2 installer; none of them worked.

So this time, I did it purely by the book, no injector, as advised, and I am posting my output to try to determine the problem and what the next best step is. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Should I try injectors again? Do I need to downgrade my graphics framework for this card to work? Is it some unrelated kext that safeboot is fixing misleading me into thinking it's the video?

Thanks in advance.
