hmm i dont have any GUID partition so i cant install, will make 1 now.. thx verdant u r a real patient guy :angel:

AFIK you do not need a GUID partition? I am using EFI GFX string for my 8600GT and I have an MBR partition.....you are making mods to files in an existing OSx86 install only.....

Given that nothing else seems to be working for you try the Mysticus C* 10.5.5 Combo update v1.1.3a (now available) and choose

9.4.0 StageXNU kernel

NForce-Test

NVinject + NVIDIA GFX fix options

Just Restore Audio

Just Restore Network

SMBIOS - MacPro

see full instructions in post #1 of his thread.......

BUT before you do try this string in com.apple.Boot.plist, typing these lines in

<key>device-properties</key>

<string></string>

if they are not present at end of script:

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>maxmem=3072</string>

<key>device-properties</key>

<string></string>

</dict>

</plist>

Hexadecimal string goes between </string> and </string> without any spaces.....

here r the SS

what kind of error is this?

Not sure what you mean.....Your boot screen messages indicate that the boot device (HDD) has been found......does boot process freeze after Jettisoning kernel linker appears?

Have you checked in System Profiler to see how your video card is identified

Vendor: NVIDIA (0x???)

Device ID: 0x????

Revision ID: 0x????

or typed

lspci

followed by Enter in Terminal to see how your video card is identified....did you try the GFX string in my previous post?

this is good 10hrs straight and no internet failure here :D ahh if i only could update to 10.5.5 :)

That is good news for readers of this thread...... :)

Perhaps when you have some time you could post a summary of the key steps that got you to this point, e.g. BIOS settings, DVD Install Customize selections, GFX card driver installation, Ethernet solution etc.

For updating, Mysticus has a new v1.1.4 10.5.5 Combo Updater out...... :)

When attempting to update to 10.5.5, I recommend you boot with cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v before running the Mysticus C* pre and post update 10.5.5 Combo Update v1.1.4 packages........following instructions: pre update package (no restart), then combo updater (NO RESTART), and post update package with selections:

Kernel - 9.4.0 StageXNU

Chipsets Drivers - NForceTest

Video - NVIDIA - NVinject - 512MB PLUS NVIDIA GFX DRIVERS NForce Fix

Audio Drivers - Just Restore Audio

Network - Just Restore Network

Device Identification - None

System Functions - SMBIOS - MacPro PLUS AppleACPI - AppleAPIC (Older versions) for Bad Bios (i.e. default selection)

then re-booted with -v -f.....wait until PC shuts down.......and re-boot second time with -v -f too

You may want to try not using AppleACPI - AppleAPIC (Older versions) for Bad Bios (i.e. default selection) but if it does not work you will have to re-run post combo package to install it....... :)

Time for some overkill. Here are the full details of what I have and my BIOS settings.

For the BIOS Settings, basically it is written out as if you are stepping through the BIOS screens. I only included those items that can be changed. If one of the selections I made disables another setting in BIOS, that setting is not included as it cannot be changed. Another item to note is that these settings are very specific to my rig. The memory timings, etc are because of the specific RAM I have. The overclocking settings are there for my CPU.

Everything runs extremely stable, but I don't have QE/CI and am stuck in 1024x768. I am now at 1680x1050 using 1680x1050x32 boot flag. Still no QE/CI. eno nForceLan works perfectly, but required me to turn off Airport for my PCI Wireless N Card. Otherwise, the machine would panic.

I have installed Leo4Allv3 and updated to 10.5.5 (using Mysticus C* Guide). I had no problems with the Leo4Allv3 DVD nor the instructions for updating everything to 10.5.5 using the guide. I chose the 9.4.0 StageXNU Kernel in the update.

Although I have posted this in other forums, I will post this again as my experience.

I have been trying to get QE/CI working with my 8800GTS 512 (G92) for awhile now and have failed with countless attempts. From everything that I see, my best bet is with NVkush, but I have not been able to get it working either.

I have tried NVkush and NVinject. I have placed my device ID in all necessary kexts (NVDAResman, NVDANV50Hal, and NVkush or NVinject). I have placed my NVCAP value in NVkush, specified the necessary VRAM,totalsize value. I am at a loss.

Here is what I have used.

IOPCIMatch = 0x060010de

NVCAP = <04000000 00000300 0c000000 00000007 00000000>

VRAM,totalsize = <00000020>

Of course, I have tried a mix of everything (i.e. not including VRAM,totalsize, or NVCAP, or both), but nothing. I have tried this using 10.5.2 (with updated graphic drivers) and 10.5.5.

Basically, it always hangs when the login window tries to load. NVkush recognizes the card and NVDANV50Hal seems to load fine, but the machine always hangs. Not sure if this would be important, but if I move NVDAResman.kext out of Extensions, delete caches, etc; I boot without hanging even with NVkush and NVDANV50Hal remaining in the Extensions folder. I simply do not have QE/CI and my res is stuck at 1024x768. I am now at 1680x1050 using GFX Strings. Still no QE/CI.

Your writeup will be very helpful in this thread......as regards your GFX card, did you have any joy with swapping the monitor DVI or VGA (via VGA-to-DVI adapter) connector to the other DVI port on the GFX card as regards resolution choices, switching, CI/QE?.....

BTW NVDAResman.kext AFIK is the resolution manager kext......

I saw a post of yours about GFX Strings, and had attempted trying them once, but as I know very little about GFX Strings, I had thought they were for Intel based mobos only (much like Vanilla Kernels). After seeing your post, I realized they were not. I decided to give GFX Strings a shot and I now have 1680x1050! Thanks!! This is great progress. It's amazing how going from 1024x768 to native resolution makes the machine much more usable.

A couple questions. I have the below in my Extensions folder:

GeForce.kext

GeForce2MXGLDriver.bundle

GeForce3GLDriver.bundle

GeForce7xxxGLDriver.bundle

GeForce8xxxGLDriver.bundle

GeForceFXGLDriver.bundle

GeForceGA.plugin

GeForceVADriver.bundle

NVDANV50Hal.kext

NVDANV40Hal.kext

NVDANV30Hal.kext

NVDANV20Hal.kext

NVDANV10Hal.kext

I removed the NVDAResman.kext file because it was still causing hangs with the loginwindow.

From my understanding, as for the NVDANV files, all I really need to pay attention to for my 8800 is the NVDANV50Hal.kext file. With GFX Strings, I am also assuming I still need to mod the info.plist files with my device id's??

Am I missing anything here??
