when i try any of the versions of the boot123 disk found in the original thread, and a real install disk that came with my 10 month old MacBook, all i get is a black screen and occasionally a reboot loop. am i doing something wrong?? im completely new to the whole deal with using the real install disks and would be extremely happy to get it to work this way with this particular HackBook.

will u check if what u got is really the retail install dvd & not just the upgrade install dvd?

Hello, if you can help me get boot-132 to boot from software raid through chameleon please advise me in this thread

boot-132 gives me the plist.apple.boot.com not found error, chameleon hangs at boot0:done_

thanks

Two things:

  • You cannot use the Boot-132 with a Pentium 4 or Pentium D processor. It's Core-based processors only.
  • You cannot use the Leopard disk that came with your Mac. It only allows you to install it on that specific type of machine.

So good luck with buying a new notebook and a retail copy of Leopard. :P

Hi Guys, i have a Problem!

I downloaded the DVD with the kexts and when i boot and press ESC and want to boot with the Retail DVD (2 DVD´s) there come this: "Coult not find kernel image: /mboot.c32

Retail DVD Version 1.0 (2 DVD´s)

Can someone help me? My Board is a Asus P5K3-Deluxe

Actually, that may not be the case. I talked to dfe and he advised me that you can, in fact, specify an alternative kernel on the ramdisk, too. That means intel SSE3 chips on boards which have HPET etc should be able to use the boot-132 method.

Have a look here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=872140

I tried the ISO made for the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 (http://www.mediafire.com/?0g8v3pxntz4) and it works well. However, speed is very slow. Transfering files on the LAN is very slow. Running OS X (booting up, mounting .img files, etc) and doing system updates takes for ever. This slow behavior was not seen when I was running Kalaway 10.5.4. Any missing kext you guys can recommend?

Thanks!

This guide or any other probably use the same stuff so if it´s retail Leo you want to install try this one instead if this guide don´t work for you.

But you have to just like it says have a hacked OSX86 (Kalyway or other hacked OSX) to do the install from.

I tried installing Kalyway hoping I can intall a legal Leo. I was able to choose disk partition and see OS getting loaded. But after 10 minutes or so, it comes up with the error message, "The OS cannot be run on to this machine.". When I reboot next time, the bios cannot see the HD and the DVD won't start Kalyway. I tried to load WIN XP and it refused to see the HD as well. (Finally I pulled the HD, put it in another win machine, still XP would not mount it, and finally used Paragon HD utility to reformat). Can anyone take a guess on what is happening? Also, where can I get basic information on boot loaders etc. for MAC? TIA

Hello,

I've read that AppleEFIRuntime.kext can slow the system.

Witch ehernet card do you have?

Did you try to add HDAEnabler.kext for the audio or Azalia?

got the leopard install from a retail dvd fully working as it's updated to 10.5.4. the problem is, something went wrong w/ my iphoto. it won't magnify a picture that i double-click nor i can see the picture in edit view. the iphoto works just fine when i had my previous retail leopard install using karaakeha1's guide. would anyone know why?

another thing. i'm interested in dual-booting it w/ xp. is there a way to install retail leopard in an mbr partition?

any advice pls?

<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Hi,<br /><br />I got the same problem, but I still boot using the CD. You could try to:<br /><br />1. Install Mac OS X<br />2. Install Chameleon for hard disk<br />3. Install XP<br />4. Modify XP's boot.ini to boot from chain0 (google for it)<br /><br />Disclaimer: I haven't tried it so far

EDIT: sorry about the br tags, probably something to do with noscript

nah. this ain't work.

retail leopard needs to be installed in GPT and can't be in MBR. while xp can't be installed in GPT, MBR only. unless someone knows a way.

I've tried using all three of the ISO's linked as well as Sabr's from the thread and each time I see it start to load the kernel extensions, then it says "Loading Darwin installer" and the system reboots itself.

For reference, my configuration is:

Intel Core 2 Duo 6400

Asus P5LD2-VM DH (Intel i945P/G chipset)

nVIDIA Geforce 7300 GT

Chaintech AV-710

Does anyone have an ISO built for an Intel 945 board? I've been trying to find 945 chipset related threads in general to see what kexts I need, but I'm not having much luck.

Thanks!

I have installed "Retail" on my Vaio FE11M with MBR partition and it works perfect along with XP. So don't be convenient, it needs only GUID.

will u kindly clarify? u have installed both retail leopard & xp in a single hdd w/ mbr partition?

if so, will u share the steps u took?

Yes it is on a single HDD with MBR partition. It's easy, just make new image with Disk-utility, replace modified OSInstall.mpkg and it's up to you, rather burned on DL-DVD, or restore it to an external USB HDD, 8 gig flash saving money and time. Installation is less then 10 min. I followed this link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=116505&hl=

yeah. i remember that guide as i already have a bootable (no more disc-swapping) stripped-down retail leopard install dvd. pardon my ignorance but does this method of modifying the osinstall.mpkg don't make the retail leopard less vanilla? most probably not, right? so i guess i just have to make use of the modified osinstall.mpkg to dual-boot w/ xp. tnx.

I instaled chameleon for harddisk boot132 package, and all is perfect when using vanilla kernel. I can update and all that new flavors we have... but when I try to use latest Stagexnu kernel for same tests, I got kernel panic in association with AppleEFIRuntime.kext. Is chameleon in that package older one that has problems with non-vanilla kernel or it is something different?

Hi MACinized,

You're right. I had forgotten Mac OS X needs to be installed on a GUID table. However I managed to get my MacBook triple-booting Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) + Debian + Leopard, all using a MBR :D

The trick was to first install Mac OS X on GUID, then transfer the partition to an USB drive using a bootable Linux CD. Then I just wiped the HDD and created a MBR with three partitions, 07 (ntfs), AF (Leopard) and 83 (Linux). EFI boots Leopard by default, but I can switch to Windows/Linux pressing alt.

I don't think this method would work on a regular PC because the BIOS cannot load boot.efi from the partition. So chain0 might work.

yeah. tnx for that toto1234. krassi Vassev reminded me of the guide by llauqsd. that is, using a modified osinstall.mpkg. but anyway, i'm already enjoying right now a vista & retail leopard dual-boot both in 1 hdd.

krassi Vassev Posted Yesterday, 07:41 PM

It's definitely vanilla, otherwise I wouldn't update directly from Apple.

tnx krassi Vassev. maybe i'll try that some day but right now, i don't have a need for it since i'm already dual-booting vista & the unmodified (in any way) retail leopard in just 1 hdd - guid partition. :thumbsup_anim:

hi again krassi Vassev. will u happen to know why the kexts (ALCinject & AppleHDA) to make my audio work and the Natit.kext (for my video) are not loaded from the usb bootloader? do they really need to be in /S/L/Extensions?

at the moment, i have them in /S/L/Extensions to get the sound working & a 1440x900 display resolution. the problem is, when booting up, after the grey apple boot screen, my monitor "sleeps" for about 2 minutes. then it just wakes up to complete the boot up process & display my desktop. so that takes about 3 long minutes to boot up my leopard. will u happen to know where to get a more "appropriate"/perfectly working graphics/display kext for my 256mb geforce 6500 card?

tnx in advance.

Here's my config:

Acer Aspire 5621

2.5Ghz Core 2 Quad Q9300

8GB DDR2-6400 RAM

Acer G33T-AM (rev A2) G33/ICH9R

2x SATA 640GB HD's

NVidia GeForce 9800GT 512MB

(This is the systems stock config)

So here my issue:

I have tried using both the generic.iso and the stock iso with dsmos.kext added. Both ways have the same result.

If I boot with just -v the boot hangs just before dsmos would "start". If I boot with -v cpus=1 OR -v cpus=4 cpu=1 (alone or with -x or -s) it hangs at dsmos: starting... .

I have read this issue can be cause by a graphics kext, but I switched to the base iso and still the same problem.

Any ideas? Am I just not waiting long enough?

I am going to try when I get home with a iso I made with the Retal DVD guide 4.2 kext pack, I'll post the results here.

THANKS A TON IN ADVANCE!!!
