EternalEmpty - many thx. after deleting all appleBCM* it immediately found the network card. I am running iPC 10.5.6. PPF5 on a HP nc6400. I am trying for three days now to get the ethernet to work. Install worked like a charm, but no network, no fun.

here is the deal. I get ifconfig to tell me everything is fine.

tomtomates-hp-compaq-nc6400-eh522av:~ tomtomate$ ifconfig

lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384

inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1

inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000

inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128

gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280

stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280

en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500

inet6 fe80::4cad:e786:dab8:74bf%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4

inet 192.168.1.200 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255

ether 0f:2c:7e:3b:0a:9e

media: autoselect (100baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control>) status: active

supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,flow-control> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control> 1000baseT <full-duplex> 1000baseT <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseT <full-duplex,flow-control>

But a ping to the router gives me a host is down.

tomtomates-hp-compaq-nc6400-eh522av:~ tomtomate$ ping 192.168.1.1

PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1): 56 data bytes

ping: sendto: No route to host

ping: sendto: Host is down

ping: sendto: Host is down

ping: sendto: Host is down

ping: sendto: Host is down

The same for a windows PC works perfectly.

I have a Broadcom 5753M with Device ID 14e4:16fd

No idea what else to do. Do you have any idea?

Thank you for your efforts in trying to help out here!

I tried installing your fix for the BCM5751 network interface. I have an Optiplex GX280, and this is my first time installing OSX on a non-mac machine. I installed XxX 10.5.6 Final and it installed okay after playing around a bit.

Anyway, after installing your BCM5751 fix the computer will start up, but freeze as soon as it reaches the finder. If I start up, hit F12, and go to the system bios settings to turn off the integrated NIC (BCM5751), then the computer will start up fine.

Do you have any ideas as to how I can get this working? Or can you suggest a low-profile ethernet card that will work for me?

Thank you.

Hey folks, hi EternalEmpty,

just saw your thread. thank you so much for your time and work you put into this project!

I desperately try to get my network up and running.

It's a

Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller (Ethernet, 100Mbps)

device no: Bus 2, device 0, Function 0

OEM Name Broadcom BCM5750A1 NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express

OEM Hardware No. VEN_14E4, DEV_1677, REV_01.

I saved the MAC in windows in case I need it.

The System itself is a Dell Dimension 8400.

CPU Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.80GHz

2,5gb ram

North Bridge Intel i925X Revision B1

South Bridge Intel 82801FB (ICH6) Revision B1

Network Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller

Display Adapter GeForce 8400GS 512mb

This is what I did so far:

Installed iPC 10.5.6 final with voodoo kernel(checked AppleBCM5751Ethernet)

Managed to get the geforce working.

Will try your guide now.

best regards

phil

edit:

solved by using my old RTL ethernet card :thumbsup_anim:

thanks anyway...

Hey, man, an alternative is always another wise way to solve the problem..

if I can I will do the same too, sadly, my computer got not pci slots, and pci-e has been taken by SLI, so I have to make the on board one works

by looking at your system configuration, I am sure your system will run all the version of 10.5 just fine.... have fun ..^^

That kind of stuff is WAAAAY over my head. :)

I am completing work on a port of the Broadcom BGE/TG3 driver hopefully within the next week. While my primary focus is the BCM5906M, I am going to do my best to support other Broadcom chips. Hopefully with the work done in this thread to get stuff going we can get one driver going that will give full Broadcom support. I'll start a new thread when this is done.

Same here. Manually configuring the network settings I now get the green light saying its connected (wouldn't grab an IP via dhcp) I can not ping this machine from another machine.

hey ..man ..can you tell me what is your DEVICE ID ? I really need to know that before I know how to help you ..thanks

sorry for late reply..I was busy ..Like Hell ..and then on holiday Drink like Hell too ..so ..didn't com and check email ..sorry

I haven't try on 1677 before .I am sorry , but have you try to modify your HEX to "77 16" ? well ..this is a very bad hack too, but I am not sure that will help or not,

if it freezing on you, that means the card has been readed, but the buffer address is different, in that case it could be trouble a bit.

since I don't have the card with me, you may want to try other solution until I have the card with me, then I can test it for you. but not sure when I can get the card though ...

Hey .Soulz

if you are using 169D, I am sure you will have not problem with the kext, before it tell you it has new card detected, you should click to open the NETWORK icon, of coz if you have already tried, then it must be something wrong with your kext didn't load correctly ,,

try to remove the installed kext, and repair permission and then reboot, with flag -f and then install the kext again, repair again, and boot with -f one more time

I hope it works for you

something I need to point out, I never try on 10.5.0 if that is what you refer to, somehow I just didn't, personally, I think the best version I have try on Iatkos IS 10.5.4 (4i) not even 5i, you should try that version , Iatkos 5i wasn't a good build for me, I have try like many times, but fail as many time as I tried ..

have fun .I am sure you can enjoy the os x with this kext very much ... try it again and make your new year a bit poshing .. :D

Hi there..

I am not sure .. can you tell me Device ID first ?

I am using this ketxt on the same version of OS X as you have, and I am now using it to reply your post, so maybe you want to tell me what is your device id ...^^

Hi, im using iPC 10.5.6 in a HP Compaq dc51000 sff with a broadcom 5751 14e4:1677 Is there a posibility for someone to help me work in a kext for me, I have try a ot of method and most of them need to do some hex editing and I'm not expert on that. I will appreciate any help on this because I do want osx on my machine.

thx!

Same here. Manually configuring the network settings I now get the green light saying its connected (wouldn't grab an IP via dhcp) I can not ping this machine from another machine.

I am having the same issue. My mac address is all 00's. When I try to do:

sudo ifconfig en0 ether (Mac address of device)

it returns:

ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCAIFADDR): network is down.

I used the kext from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...4987&st=780

modifying the info adding my device / ven. then modifying the driver using a hexeditor.

Hello,

...installed iATKOS_v7_10.5.7 on my Acer 5680 and what I have with Broadcom:

Trying to ping my router and then I get an error "Host is down" and sometimes "No route to host".

MAC address - detected, all settings is correct and set to manual.

Should I trying to install driver from EternalEmpty or it is seems to be already included in this DVD?

P.S. If I trying to set MAC address by hand, my laptop is freezing. (ifconfig en0 ether 01:1D:67:60:DB:AF)

Sorry for my bad English.

With best regards..

I'm trying to get this running for my BCM5789 on 10.5.6, but it always says the extension has been installed improperly and can't be used. Anybody know why?
