i still cannot get my network card to work but finally got the sound to work but it is incredibly loud... my network card is an Intel Pro/100 VE i have looked through out the forums to find a solution but what i have found does not work...

how did u get the sound to work???

@ clearly_unseen, ChadyzGroove: when you change the resolution, did you save the com.apple.boot.plist as a .plist file or a .txt file? you need to save it as a .plist file.

hmm...i didnt think about this, how would i tell the difference and how would i go about saving at as a plist file? also i dont think ive said this yet but AWESOME guide!

I might have found an easy way to get networking up, BUT, i need to know how to install a .sit file. Thanks :pirate2: And again, make it noob-friendly. Assume the .sit file is in the Documents folder.

i believe, .sit is a compressed file format in osx,use stuffit expender.

lol, you are welcome!

when you save the file. save it with this name com.apple.boot.plist and it will save as a .plist file.

and a .plist would have a different icon from a .txt

I need help :D I followed the instructions carefully, finished installing OS X sucessfully and tried to reboot. However, nothing could be booted. So I tried using Win XP's Recovery Console to fixmbr and fixboot C: but still no sucess. Also tried resinstalling WIndows XP using the 'R' option but to no avail. OS X was installed on the legacy partition. Win XP was on the primary one. So why is it not able to boot anything. Anyone?

well i saved the file and restarted, but as it started loading it said something like "error loading com.apple.boot.plist" then it said "pausing for 5 seconds" and then it booted back to 640x480

i will post the contents of my com.apple.boot.plist here so you can see if you edited it wrong.

No I did not. It just said "Could not find any floppy" or smthign like that. I solved it by deleting the OS X partition and then Windows XP could boot again. Anyone have any comments?

perhaps this have something to do with the boot order of your computer, perhaps your computer boots the floppy drive first and your floppy is not working with osx.

just tried that, then restarted and still no luck. tried the macvidia auto installer as well and after restart i can tell a change, my resolutions listed are only 640x480. also im not sure if this will help but when i first booted my os x installation it said that it couldnt read my monitor. my monitor is a lcd 19" that connects vga. since my video card is dvi only its connected through a vga to dvi connector. cant see how that would make a differance.

Many thanks for your guide.

My system:

AMD x2 3800+ (works with SSE2 - NOT SSE3)

KN1 SLI Lite (nForce 4 - GigaLan - PCI-e - AC'97 Onboard Audio)

2GB RAM

PATA drive - for installation of OS X

SATA drive - XP drive

GeForce 7300 GS 256Mb (DVI) (1280x1024x32 without Macvidia driver - yet to try latest driver)

Using JaS 10.4.6 install dvd with ppf1

To start off I followed the your steps.

Created a FAT32 10GB partition on my unallocated PATA drive using Disk Director at the start of the disk. Then in Bios selected CDROM as boot device.

When Erasing this partition in disk utility I got an error message.

Tried again with Disk Director but with the partition at the end of the disk.

Again an error message. I dont think the disk utility showed the partition in either case getting mounted (its shown at the bottom of the Erase dialog box).

This time I formatted/created a partition of 10GB with disk utility, and then created another two partitions using up all the disk space. They all showed as being mounted this time.

It installed no problem. With sound working straight away (mono)

(see: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Audio)

First I enabled root access:

To add a root user, launch NetInfoManager from /Applications/Utilities. Choose Domain->Security->Authenticate..., and provide the admin password (normally your user password) for your computer. Choose Domain->Security->Enable Root User. You will be asked to provide a non-trivial password, don't forget it!

I used planetbeings driver for Nforce Lan:

Athlon X2+ Processors

They are dual-core, which means OSX will most probably have trouble using both cpus, causing "stuttering" problems, to fix this try setting idlehalt=0 as a boot parameter in your com.apple.Boot.plist

To do this:

a) Open Terminal from OSX

Next type:

su root

(enter your password)

nano /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

d) then

Edit this portion of the plist as follows:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>platform=ACPI idlehalt=0</string>

Save the file (WriteOut) , and then type "exit", followed by "exit" again

*This solution thanks to Careless*

Once I had the basic install working I used the Chain0 method for dual booting - my SATA drive (WinXP) is sometimes recoginsed in OSX - sometimes not!

Many thanks to all in the OSX 86 community.

Anyone know how to go from 10.4.5 to 10.4.4?

I ask as there seems to be issues with CoreAudio and HIGH END Firewire devices, where just two tracks turns into a OUTPUT error (logic express), no problems with GarageBand except the delayed times (1~2 seconds) of loading the loops, probably due to the ATA driver which I did try the update. I believe it's using nvidia ATA drivers or generic mac, not sure what to do to speed up loading times of loops. The drives are 7200, and the MACBOOKS @ 5200 load much faster!

thanks!

you are success number 31! nice setup you got there, PATA and SATA for each os.

the only way i know of is a reinstall of 10.4.4

Just installed a triple-booted with Windows XP Pro, CentOS, and the JaS 10.4.6 install DVD into my Sony Vaio - FS760/W. It's important to know that if using the JaS 10.4.6 patched install DVD that you MUST click on custom install and ONLY choose the modules/patches that your system supports--otherwise you'll have some problems...

Still trying to get AGP support in OS X so I can run Final Cut Pro...any suggestions? It's an NVidia Geforce Go 6400--it should be AGP...isn't there a workaround?

Solved this last night. dilnalomo, I have something that you could add to your guide so that others won't have the same frustrations like I did and troubleshootings that lasted for 2-3 hours like I did ;) You could put in your guide that one should ALWAYS install Acronis OS Selector first before creating a partition. Also, one should allow Acronis Director Suite's creation of the partition to be completed 100%, i.e. allow the computer to reboot several times for that process to occur; what I didn't do was that I did not allow those reboots, i.e. completion of the creation of the new partition, to occur and installed OS X prematurely.

Other than that dilnalomo, you can add me to your success list. I used the MacOSX_10.4.6_GoatsecxDVD.iso (I also think you should recommend this image as I've used a couple and this one is the most comprehensive, i.e. has all the patches to 10.4.6 and GMA/ ATI video drivers, QE/CI, WiFi, broadcom, and sound drivers for 10.4.6. Thanks for the guide once again. Cheers.

PS: I had a few more questio0ns:

1) Is there a way to make the Darwin bootloader choose Win XP after the default 10 seconds; also, is there a way to make that 10 seconds shorter?

2) As mentioned before, I have a Inspiron 6000 GMA 900 laptop. Is there a way to allow OS X to boot properly without using an external monitor plugged in the avoid the blue screen of death?

nice pointers ultrasoul. i do aware of people not following my guide. they dont follow my guide 100% and they post their problems here crying for help. what can i say?

for your first question:

there's no way to make windows default in Darwin. to make the 10 second shorter, again, you have to edit com.apple.boot.plist.

you will see this

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>10</string>

change 10 to soemthing you want.

and you ar esuccess number 32. and the ISO you used is already listed in the guide.
