i'm thinking of building my 1st hackintosh with the Intel D945GCLF. Checked out iceman's videos and it seems to run smoothly. anyone know how it handles HD video? the monitor i want to use only gets 720 at full resolution, but i do have a few 1080 res video clips. also, would a standard atx psu work with it?

Sorry to resurrect this thread :)

 

I built a Hackintosh based on the D945GCLF board - and it was all running great on Kalyway 10.5.2, sound, network the lot. Blame this thread for making me want to try it!

 

So I got ambitious and downloaded the World of Warcraft trial, thinking it would be a good test of the 3D hardware (and yeah, I know it wasn't likely to run great, but you know, I was curious).

 

As soon as WoW run, I got a black screen, then an error message that the computer needed to be restarted - Mac version of the Blue screen of death I suspect.

 

On rebooting though - it looks like the BIOS has gone from the board. All I get is a flashing cursor. I've tried the usual tricks, swapping the jumper to reset the BIOS didn't do anything, and the BIOS recovery just didn't want to work. Left it powered off for 10 minutes on the offchance, but that board is DEAD in capital letters.

 

Leaving me with a bit of a wobbly coaster...

 

Now... Has anyone else tried WoW (trial or full game), or indeed, anything that uses the 3D Hardware?

 

I'm getting the board replaced, and all I want to know is if this looks like a one-off, and the board just happened to die when I ran WoW, or if this is something that's likely to happen should I dare to try it again :o

 

Otherwise, for £50ish mainboard, cheapest Mac ever. I saw enough of the OS and liked it enough, that if I can't get this working, I might just cough for a Mac Mini :)

Ive bought this mobo, with a sata hdd and a ide dvd.

 

Ive successfully installed Kalway 10.5.2 on a partition side-by-side with win xp.

 

However, when starting up Gparted to set the correct flags for dual-booting to work, Gparted wont work.

 

I get into the selection of what Gparted-version I want to boot, but after a lot of consoletextoutput, this is where I get stuck:

 

"/bin/sh: cant access tty: jobcontrol turned off

 

(initramsf) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system"

 

Can anybody help me on this one?

I found a work-around for setting the boot-flag for winxp when installing a dualboot with kalway 10.5.2.

 

After mac os x is installed, instead of setting the boot-flag with gparted, boot with the kalway-installcd again.

Get to the panel where "Utilities" appear on top.

Choose "Terminal".

In terminal, write:

 

diskutil list [Enter]

(here you should check that the winxp is partition 1)

fdisk -e/dev/rdisk0 [Enter]

flag 1 [Enter]

update [Enter]

write [Enter]

exit [Enter]

reboot [Enter]

 

Now when rebooting, remove the cd and youll end up in winxp.

Now you can finish the install-procedure to enable booting Mac os x by placing a copy of tboot in c:\, and placing the following line of code at the bottom of the boot.ini-file:

 

c:\tboot="Mac OSX Leopard

I'm gonna stick one in this LCII case I've got lying around. Now that's what you call "low cost"

Just wondering has anyone here managed try the new dual core atom 330 (D945GCLF2 board)?

 

I'm thinking of picking one up and build a hackintosh based on the board rather than the older single core ones. However so far I haven't managed to find anyone with any conclusive yay or nay about using the board. From what I can tell based on the spec, the two board are more or less identical. The only difference seems to be the network card (the new one support gigabit) and the sound card (though I'm not entirely sure what's new with the sound card). Oh and the new board supposedly support DDR2 667, not that it will make any difference in term of compatibility since well Ram is a Ram is a Ram anyway (it's just a pity Intel didn't put more slots into the board).

 

In any case any input on the board would be appreciated.

With regard to price, last check I did puts the new board at about $20 more than the old single core one, which I think not a bad thing.

I was thinking of getting an AppleTV and I then remembered reading about Hackintosh(s). I searched Google with the keywords "d945gclf hackintosh" and found this thread. The rest is history!

 

I don't think I will be needing the AppleTV anymore, lol. I am posting this reply from my new Hackintosh which is being displayed on my 42" plasma.

 

In case anyone wonders here is my setup:

 

$80 D945GCLF

$40 2GB Kingston RAM

$70 120GB Toshiba laptop drive (SATA) as the system drive where OS is installed

$140 1TB Western Digital desktop drive (SATA) where my media is stored

$70 AOpen S150 mini-ITX case

$30 Generic slim DVD drive (ATA) might upgrade to a DVD-RW soon

 

Thats $430. Thats a bit more than I would have spent otherwise, but I already everything laying around with the exception of the motherboard & the case. Not bad in my mind.

 

As far as install, all I did was put the Kalyway DVD in the drive and followed the prompts. Everything works for my purposes.

 

I've only tried 2 channel audio but thats all I need. I only see 1024x768 in the options, but again thats all I need. The onboard network card works, dont need wireless since the machine sits right next to the router. Haven't tried any bluetooth items yet. Im sure there are some issues that could arise but for me its serving its purpose just fine.

exact same chipset on the board, only difference is the CPU, single vs dual core

Has anybody tried the mobo without the annoying little fan running? Does it overcook? It does have a pretty big heatdisperser-thingy...

 

I tried pulling the fan, and it got too hot to touch pretty quick. I don't have a case yet, so I just positioned a silent 80mm fan to blow through the fins of the big heat sink, which works great. So I don't think you can run this mobo fanless, but if your case has good ventilation, you should be OK without the chipset fan.

I have a D945gclf2 arriving today that I'm going to install Kalyway 10.5.2 on. I'll let you know how it turns out (and probably need help from the forums to set it up!)

I've got a D945GCLF2 coming in also and am extremely keen on getting OS X installed on it.

 

I have all my other hardware primed and ready to go.

Hi people i have a D945GCLF2 and already installed mac osx till version 10.5.4 but i have a few problems:

 

1. Sound inst working i already tried HDA patcher and some kexts that were posted here and now i can control the sound volume bar but theres no sound output, i went to sound settings and it show Line out on and spdif out on outuput devices no integrated speakers, and in input devices it shows integrated mic, i tried plugged in a headphone in the green output but no sound, mic i didnt test.

 

2. Shutdown/restart hasnt been working, but since i tried patching the sound now shutdown is working restart still doesnt work.

 

Since i have a usb audio card ive been using it, but i would like to get sound onboard.

 

Realtek* ALC662 audio codec (5.1 channel HD audio)

 

The rest is working great LAN, Video, Usb, 1 Sata hardrive, 1 Ide dvdrom

Just finished doing a codec dump on linux and tried to patch with it but still no good.

audio only with Azalia, no dump or anything worked.( BTW controls works but no sound)

 

shutdown on my system works (iDeneb V1.1 patched to 10.5.5 and vanilla 9.5.0), restart...sometimes works, sometimes it hangs.

 

for the fan, just connect to the other connector and it will work quieter.

Thnaks Ironfly just patched it Azalia and the sound started working showing as HD audio Outupt mic doesnt show any input but i dont care.

Hei could someone help me out, whenever i try to restart it appears the same dialog box saying updating system cache, and after it freezes, i read in another post that we cant let the software installation reboot automatic, since ive done that already ;) is there a way around this problem?

Hi guys

I am really . i mean really intreasted in this Mini ITX system since it is pretty and cheap

 

I currently have a Giga-Byte Ds3p-S2x . sorry for not correct mobo name . cause I am in office hehe

but everything work out of the box . It's a G31 chipset mobo with ICH 7

and I've added an old Geforece 5 display on it and work too .

with Intel E4500 CPU(1.8Ghz? , 1 GB ram . crappy old SATA HDD from my friend

 

anyway This is my main concernt

will this system be faster then mine ? or almost same speed . if speed is the only thing we are talking about

hum . let's say we use same HDD, ram , etc . just the cpu is different right ? (atom 330 1.6Ghz)

 

First . why am i want to get atom ? because the above mobo is dead by water , Burst .... Beezz Beezzzz .. (smoke comming out ) . my daughter spilt coca cola on it (she's only 2 years ' can't blame her )

This is really a great set up I have had my for some time using Linux. i fliped it over to OSX Kalyway 10.5.2 only things i have not fully foring and like to know how to do so is 1. booting with out the DVD, 2. getting the 10.5.3 combo to work . ever time i use Kalyway or even the netkas way, all i get is when i restart i get the apple boot screen and the spiner thing that just keeps going and going!! as you can see new to hackintosh way of life would like to know if anyone could help!!!

To boot without DVD, you can use Chameleon. I tried the latest version (1.0.11 I think) yesterday, boots without problem from the hard drive. You can google. Cheers. :)

I can't help though with the Combo update. Have not tried it yet and don't have much time to fiddle with the graphics settings aftewards. If I remember well from reading somewhere in this forum about the update, you may have to play a little with graphic kexts in order to get back QE/CI you loose during the update. But I may wrong.

If you try and succeed, please, share your experience. Good luck.

Like to share my experience with the D945GCLF board.

 

If you want something easy, please install using iATKOS_4i. ( 10.5.4 )

 

The only thing required is to patch the NIC with RTGMac_v2.0.0.

 

That's it!

 

*** As everyone else ( i guess ) restart does not work ***

 

Anyone can try it on the D945GCLF2 board and provide feedback? That would be great.
