Jimmy did you install Snow Leo via this guide, or did you make up you own?http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=464

I know it will be quite alluring to install Snow Leo when my Retail copy arrives here tomorrow. :|

hi jimmy!

thank you very much for your turbo-reply, i just ordered the startech card from the startech online shop!! if it works fine i will send you some money via paypal (pls send me pm with your paypal e-mail)

i am running on 10.5.6. now with the p5k kexts package installed (didn't install any additional/legacy kexts). system works fine except the firewire and the lan (lan = marvell yukon chipset?!), but don't really need lan/internet on my hackintosh workstation...

i still can't get the system work with p5k kexts package and the update to 10.5.8, always get that "please reboot your computer, blablabla" screen @ boot-up... already setting up 5th or 6th time because of that... but did i understand you right: i can boot with the 123 boot cd even when i f***** up my hackintosh with bad kexts?? that would really help... and save time alot... i am mac-os noob, so sorry... ^^

greetings from austria/europe,

roland

Hi, you may try to install manually ApplePXIIAta.kext for your chipset, using UInstaller.app

In the FAQ you will find a link to a Yukon.kext, use it for your LAN.

Don´t worry about PayPal, Just share your experience with other people helping the community.

C Ya! :thumbsup_anim:

...

Not Impossible, but there is no point in doing so.

The new installation will override system files, just keeping your preferences and installed Apps, the same as you installed to a new HD, and then copied the preferences during the welcome screen process.

Well, having 2 or more HDs is really handy in this sort of situation! :)

As I have described before, the process is very similar to installing a retail copy.

If you have another HD, or partition, Mount the DMG or ISO containing the installation

Open UInstaller.app, and select, " Open Mac OSX Installer ", install it that HD or Partition, Formated as HFS+, of course.

After that, replace the " boot " file in the system root with the one provided, just google! :)

Install the Kexts for your 64Bit System, mainly AppleIntelPIIXATA, FakeSMC ( replacement for DSMOS and AppleDecrypt ), NullCPUPowerManagement, OpenHaltRestart, PlatformUUID and VoodooHDA.

For now there is no AttansicL1Ethernet for 64Bit platforms, Id get a compatible 3Com or other Network Interface Card (NIC)

Then, as described before, you will need to install Chameleon 2.0 RC2, boot the new installed disk or partition with the " -s " option and build your " Extensions.mkext " file, boot again and you will be fine...

Hi Jimmy,

First off, we (well, most of us I'm sure) owe you a debt of gratitude for all your hard work in supplying your guides and friendly assistance. I never had a proper hackintosh until your guide appeared!

The one main thing getting in my way is my 20 years of PC use getting in the way of wrapping my head around how to really make the MAC work the way I need it to. My PC is used primarily as a media PC and the only thing preventing me running OSX as my primary OS has been getting the SPDIF output to talk 5.1 to my Sony AV Receiver.

I'm running 10.5.8 and I think I may have an old, unsuccessful attempt at installing some found 883 drivers, getting in the way. I am assuming that this VoodooHDA icon in my System Prefs is what I need to get running. But when I click on it I get "Error Can't Map Memory" and when I click on OK, I can see the Voodoo(?) panel with all kinds of sliders but nothing works, probably because of the initial error message.

Sooooooo, being a PC person, when I read previous posts where you tell others to "remove old kexts"...I'm kinda green when it comes to figuring out which kext is which! How can i be sure I'm removing the right kext, not really recalling what I've installed previously? Is there a tool that I can grab that tells me "you installed this and that kext, wanna remove it"? Can you start nudging me in the right direction and/or can I give you more info?

Thanks!

System specs without going into great detail:

Core 2 Duo 6750

Nvidia 8600 GT 512mb

@ Jimmy

Okay, I understand it's better to install a new clean copy on a new HD (that I can do :)), but right now, it seems a little difficult for me using your explanations (but it makes me understand a bit more how things are done).

I'll just wait for a guide, I'm not in a hurry for the moment :)

Thanks again !

hi,

VoodooHDA gives me 5 outputs and works perfect.. but no success with microphone still.

So for now I use another driver. It gives me 1 output but with working microphone.

My sound: ALC883.

I've attached a driver from russian forum from BIM user.

P.S. Backup and remove all HDA kexts before installing.

Thanks,

Igor.

Try using this for SPDIF (link) :( , then if it works there is no more excuses! :P

Thanks Jimmy,

That fixed the error opening the VoodooHDA prefs panel. The SPDIF worked before (but not 5.1 digital optical out using VLC) and I figured this would get it working. Alas, I can only get 5.1 digital output to work with QT using Perian (QT seems to s*ck as a media player..it doesn't seem to have the ability to quick skip ahead (say 10 to 30 seconds) or behind) and I'll be darned if I can get 5.1 digital output to work with VLC. All I can get is stereo output with VLC, even though I'm selecting SPDIF out in the audio prefs (and yes I've selected, and unselected "use SPDIF when available") so I think my problem now is with VLC.

After reading some AVS Forum threads it would seem that the Apple doesn't really play nice with DTS or AC3 with respect to passthrough. On my PC it all works wonderfully with Media Player Classic Home Cinema and AC3 Filter.

Getting 5 outputs working on the MAC isn't the way I want to go as that is not digital output... :(

But I'll carry on with trying to bash VLC over the head to play nice with 5.1 digital out.

Thanks Igor (if this was a reply to me! :(

5 outputs in VoodooHDA is only analog and I need digital (I'm know, I'm too picky!) and microphone doesn't matter to me at the moment. I'll take a look at the link you provided though.

I´ve been testing snow here for a while, not stable enough though! I´ll wait for some kexts to be compiled to 64Bit, for now, 10.5.8 should be the best choice. :(

what about 32bit mode? All macs boot the 32bit kernel by default anyway (except Xserve) , I am not sure what the benefits for the 64bit Kernel would be at this point.

Macworld: Snow Leopard runs 64-bit-capable applications in 64-bit mode regardless of whether it’s booting into a 64-bit or 32-bit kernel. In fact, the only big advantage of booting into a 64-bit kernel would be the ability to use more than 32 gigabytes of RAM. There aren't any Macs that can do that now, anyway, due to hardware limitations.

Hi Jimmy!

I tried the Yukon.kext provided in your FAQ, but it doesnt work, now searching the forum for a solution. Already read that maybe installing "Chameleon 2.0 RC1 or RC2" may help?

Really looking forward to my Startech FW card now :-)

Greetings from Austria,

Roland

Well, you need to choose 80 for the first HDD or 81 for the second and so on ( supposing you have installed PCEFI V9 or Chameleon Boot Loader )

Good Luck

How can i update my system from 10.5 to 10.5.8? If i use the ComboUpdate and then try to boot with 132, the bootloader throws me back to the partition choose dialog. Any ideas?

Hi folks,

Snow works (yet) not well here, too many strange errors.

10.5.8. provides me also continuous errors (sleep mode) with or without the 10.5.8 USB fix by slice.

Hence my primary system was and still is 10.5.7.

I just keep that old good 10.5.7.

This works properly here with each MAC OS X function.

Are you still interested? and would you like to install MAC OS X Snow on your machine?.

I found a video installation and that can be found below.

"http://tinyurl.com/nu8xa4"

As indicated earlier by Jimmy.

Several .kext drivers are available here: "http://www.kexts.com/"

Greetings,

Wally

Installed it here aswell . Cant really say that it works fine at this point :)

Though it seems like quite a few people are running it fine on their p5k mobo.

A stable 10.5.8 is sooo much better then unstable 10.6 ;)

Hi,

Then you should tell me who has run snow well on his p5k, at this moment.

I/We can always learn from such a person.

. I also read on irc.osx86.hu #snowleopard that "CycloneFr" has his p5k working fine (apart from a restart after sleep issue)

Looks like there is also some progress on Boot132 for Snow Leopard:

Hi,

Look at that.

Snow begins to live here on the forum.

* AppleDecrypt.kext;

* AppleIntelPXIIATA.kext;

* AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext;

* AppleVIAATA.kext;

* AttansicL1Ethernet.kext;

* Disabler.kext;

* IONetworkingFamily.kext;

* OpenHaltRestart.kext;

* seatbelt.kext;

* VoodooHDA.kext;

* VoodooPS2Controller.kext.

Can anyone confirm that all these above .Kext drivers from jimmy's p5k package are available,

(or a replacement) for 10.6 snow?

Thanks,

Greetings,

Wally

I've tried both of the guides mentioned on top (I have p5K pro mobo). With both I get a KP with "Mac OS Version Not Yet Set" with uptime in nanoseconds. I've tried modyfing the DSDT.aml editing smbios.plist and still KP. I'm using a separate HD to setup and install to with Main HD still loading LEO 10.5.8.
