UPDATE: just played Bioshock with maxed settings: no glitches or perceptible graphics performance loss at all. Watched a 1080p movie with VLC, all fine (yeah, i'm fast and already restore the USB to my HDD). On the other hand, Safari glitches became even more pronunciated, so i back down from what i said before and my veredict is that Safari is in fact unusable in this condition.

Best regards!

UPDATE 2: Chrome works without any glitches: adieu, Safari! :D

UPDATE 3: Youtube videos run fine in full screen (40'' 1080p TV), even the heavier ones.

UPDATE 4: Extremely mild graphic glitches with Chrome when scrolling in pages with lots of fancy eye candies. Nothing really to worry.

Well, enough for today. My veredict for now? That's it: why didn't i switch to ATI before? Sooner or later the nVidia bug will be squashed, but the pleasure to fully experience Mountain Lion on my AMD rig and do it now, not in a future nobody knows how distant it is from now, is more than worthy for the very small price tag i had to cope with.

Best regards!

None at all: the glitches were insignificant and only when scrolling the page up and down (slightly blurred image until i stopped scrolling).

Awesome! :)
Maybe I should hook up my HD4xxx (can't remember the exact model) and try with it...

Interesting... The last 2 weeks I've been trying to enable QE/QI graphics effects with my ATI 5850 and I have not got it. (with ML @ amd_kernel, ofc)

Do you think I could do it? Can you upload for AMDAcceleratorFile?
My deviceID is 6899 and my makerId is 1002. If I edit the file with this value the system doesn't run. (in ICPMatch Cypress section, u know)

Awesome! :)
Maybe I should hook up my HD4xxx (can't remember the exact model) and try with it...

Don't jump on the boat yet: i'll do further tests today, including stress tests and lots of games. Stay tuned. :)

It would be waste of time. both mine and yours: the device ids should match exactly for the kext to load. There's no way a Cypress card load a kext edited for a Cedar. I think you shoul also add your device id to the ATI5000 kext: that's what enabled QE/CI for mine. Remove also any dsdt injection for the card. Good luck!

Interesting, these last messages!

Spakk posted an interesting log, could somebody try xScan an report back? It either fails on all 10.8.2 systems, or only ours.

Alright, I tried to get DP1 i386 running, but it won't cut it. Apple didn't release the sources to 2050.1.12 and this DP1 has no corecrypto KEXT. Running a newer kernel with DP1 doesn't seem to work either.

Back to the somewhat buggy Lion.

As I said before, we'll need to binary patch 2050.1.12.

UPDATE 5: More minor glitches with Chrome. This time, when i was replying to our friend Toleda at Voldemort's castle, i noticed that sometimes black rectangles appeared covering parts of the post i was writing when i moved the mouse. This seems to disappear when i left the mouse alone. These glitches were somewhat more intense than the ones i experienced before (see UPDATE 4, post #1748).

As I said before, we'll need to binary patch 2050.1.12.

And have a double-dumbed down version of Mountain Lion. I'm afraid it's not worthy of the effort, my friend. :D

UPDATE 6: Tested these games, all of them with maxed settings/full screen, when available:

Alpine Crawler
Amnesia
Bioshock
Crazy Monster Truck
Crow
Forest Zombies
Galaxy on Fire
InBetween Land
Jason vs Zombies Demo
Jet Dudes
Lep's World I & II
Rome Total War
Royal Envoy
Scarecrow
Trine II
U-Boot
Uberstrike
Ultra Violet Dawn Lite
Znes

All of them with the FPS rate expected from this rather low-profile discrete card. The only ones to present any glitches were Bioshock (some flickering in the dark scenarios, almost imperceptible) and Crazy Monster Truck (perceptible flickering when changing lanes, but not to the point of really impair playability). So i can safely say that the HD5450 is approved for OSX gaming on an AMD machine, as long as you respect the limitations of the card, which are valid for all systems.

Next, to the benchmarks :)

xScan 3.2.7 runs fine on my AMD

I've just bought a used HD 4650 from a friend for a cheap price (less than $15)
QE/CI works almost perfectly
No glitches... even the flash can run with firefox & chrome with full hardware acceleration

all ports work properly with a proper ATI framebuffer & UseAtiROM=Yes ( reqs. chameleon rev.1819 )

An issue I get is when I try to watch a DVD with the Mac's DVD Player

I can run the app.

But when I try to open a movie, I instantly get this error

And here's the report:

Of course, I can run the VLC player to solve the issue ;)

and I was wondering utility x86_64 with Lion because everything works fine with 64 bit support i386.

That's precisely my point, Gilles: see thread (i talked about that yesterday, when testing both modes: no performance variation at all!)

your QuickTime encoder works?

I'm not a video expert, :)

but if what you asked was encoding/exporting a movie with a different video codec using QT-Pro,

then here are some screenshots of encoding an AVI-XviD movie to a MOV-H.264 one

Posted Image

And here's the result:

ID-0: source: AVI-XviD ( 366.6 MB @ 932 Kbps )
ID-1: target: MOV-H.264/AVC ( 99.1 MB @ 286 Kbps )

Kiko, how are you?

Man, i think patching the AMD Radeon Accelerator only is not enough: you'll have to patch also the ATI5000.kext. For me, the only thing that worked was to add the id of my card to both said kexts.

About org.chameleon.Boot.plist, i don't have UseAtiRom=Yes, just GraphicsEnabler=Yes. Don't know if it would be enough to your card, though.

Best regards!

Maybe it's my fault for not having said it, but also ATI5000.kext patched with my deviceID !

so I found it very strange that you will work and my not.

Maybe I should try another SMBios?

Perhaps your card is one of the few ATIs that present nVidia behavior with the kernel, meaning it won't work. :(

If it's so, you'll have to wait for a kernel fix.

As i'm writing this, some glitches appear in the box. Pic attached! Attached File  Screen Shot 2013-03-10 at 1.47.43 PM.png   344.25KB   23 downloads
