Here I'll be posting news from the WWDC Keynote Address minutes (maybe seconds) after it rolls out of Stevie's mouth. And then (like BOOM!) you can all post your reactions. The format will be as close to one-liners as we can get them, so subscribe to this thread and you'll be sure to stay abreast of the latest and greatest.

3X version of Mac Pro is a Xeon processo, with each Mac Pro getting 2 of them.

 

 

Mac Pro vs. G5:

 

1) Big jmp in performance -- 1.6 to 2.1x faster than the G5 QUAD!

 

2) Roughly 2x speed increase in real-world useage. "It's a great chip"

 

3) Each chip has roughly 25GB/sec bandwidth, across 4 channels.

 

4) 256 bit wide memory access

 

5) twice the bus of hte G5

 

6) Less cooling in the box

 

7) room for up to FOUR hard drives

 

8) Up to 2 TB of internal storage

 

9) Second optical drive

 

10) Increased front I/O as well as back I/O

 

11) 4 PCI Express slots

 

12) Graphics slot at bottom, double the space for a larger graphics card

 

13) Drive Carriers - Insert drives without any tools, just snap them into place

 

14) Processors take no space up inside.

uh.. i think thats the performance per watt is 3x the Xeon, correct me if im wrong?

1.6 to 2.1x faster than the G5 quad = guess it won't be that $$$$...just killed off the quads for $1000 less....makes sense as CPU's aren't that expensive!

Nvidia geforce 7300GT as an Option - nVidia fans rejoice! drivers!

 

Also, intel XServe is GO - similar to Mac Pro - still 1U

You can choose any processor for a Mac Pro? How the hell is this possible? Ughh.. my brain hurts. So supposedly its flexible and upgradable. So will we get a butload of drivers?

I hope their are drivers for ATI to for us Hackintosh. WTF?!! 256 megs ram? Stupid.
