Leo4allv3 finished and released

apowerr

Version 3 of eddie11c's popular Leo4all release has been uploaded to a private ftp, and should appear 'around' shortly. Leo4all is a 'universal' release and works on AMD and Intel. The official release notes are attached, here are the highlights:

First and most importantly is a totally rebuilt filesystem. The advantage with this is I no longer had to script a repair permissions from the DVD. This speeds install a good bit for most people. Don't worry if the timer says some outrageous time, as it does not calculate it correctly. The initial package install is very large and takes the most time, but once its done the install is almost done. I still recommend running repair permissions from Leopard once your all loaded up to fix some errors, but none of these will stop the system from booting. If you run it twice you should see zero errors on Intel and 2 SUID files on AMD. There is an install script that crashes on AMD machines causing this, but to keep everything perfect on intel I chose to leave the script intact.

This DVD now supports AHCI with more than 2 drives thanks to the updated kext's posted by Cyclonefr.

Also fixed this go around is X11 for both Intel and AMD. If, when you close it the first time, cpu usage jumps to 100% open terminal and type xeyes & to fix it. You will need to reboot after, but it should never glitch again.

There is no longer a ./RemoveVideo script, it has been updated and is now called ./options.

ACPIPlatform:

1.1.0 or 1.2.1. Included in each is ACPIPS2Nub to fix PS2 issues.

AppleSMBIOS:I put in lots of choices for different versions based on bus speed if you want it to show your proper memory speed, or if you want your hack to look like a real mac. The default install if nothing is selected is Netkas improved version 27.

Options are:

DDR667

DDR800

DDR1066

DDR1333

iMac

MacBook

MacPro

Kernel:

I have added Netkas 9.2.0 sleep kernel, and 9.2.2 binpatched kernel ny Modbin(Be warned this does not work on all AMD machines! SSE3 CPU is required!). The default install is still Netkas 9.2.0 speedstep kernel. There are also the Stock kernels(vanilla) 9.2.0/9.2.2

RemoveFireWire:

For those that have issues with FireWire, or those that just want to speed their boot time a little. This moves all of the IOFireWire kext's to /FireWire folder in the root of your install drive.

About This Mac:

This is my own little installer to customize "About this Mac" with your processor info. No it does not fix memory speed, you have to do that with AppleSMBIOS. It should work for all languages and should report overclocked CPU's properly.

Power Management:

By popular demand I added the laptop power management bundle to the install. You will still need to set it up in system preferences. This is known to have a few minor bugs. It may not report the proper time remaining or any time remaining for that matter, so use at your own risk. If you select this please do not select an ACPIPlatform, as this requires version 1.1.0.

AMD System Fix:

You will notice it is checked and greyed out by default. To take out alot of user error (people forgetting to check it for their AMD systems) I have added a script to detect the CPU and patch accordingly. When its running it will echo your processor information in the install log (if you show all). It will then skip the patch process if your on Intel or patch if its an AMD. I hope it works well for everyone!

Bootloader:

This option is checked and greyed out by default. It is Dense's script to install EFI and make the partition active. If you already have an existing bootloader (like from Vista) on the same logical drive it will not overwrite it. It will however flag the partition you installed to active, so you will have to manually set your Windows partition active again if needed.

Chipset Drivers:

(NOTE- JMicron is the only driver that always installs so please choose at least 1 option, some will have to choose 2 [if you have Marvell IDE and Intel SATA for example] ) If your not sure you can click all but 1 Nforce, as they will overwrite each other.

Nforce Old - This is the older version of Medevils Nforce(1.0.2) driver. Install this if you have issues with SATA enabled causing a panic. Known to work for some Nforce3 users.

Nforce Test- If you have a SATA DVD or do not have issues booting the DVD normally choose the NforceTest.

SiliconImage3132 - I have not found anyone that uses this specific chipset to confirm if it works.

VIA, SiS, Marvell and SB - Please install this if you are using any of these chipsets. If you have a Marvell IDE drive please install this as they should be supported. I have added many ID's here so I hope they all work! This chioce installs AppleVIAATA, AppleOnboardPCATA and AppleGenericPCATA. Confirmed working for SiS!

SAS - By request I added support for this, as of my writing this its untested. Hopefully it works.

Intel ICHx- If you have ICH7/8/9 chipsets you should install this. This is the modified version by -Dune- to support more than 2 drives and fix the over 2Gigs of RAM panics.

Audio:

These choices have not changed much, only added support for STAC9271 by request. If your not sure what chipset you have, please choose AzaliaAudio(for most HD) or AC97Audio.

Choices are:

ALC850/882/883/888/889

AC97Audio

ADI1988

STAC9271

AzaliaAudio

Graphics Drivers:

I have updated many of these packages.

ATI- there are options for:

3850

3870

2600XT(PCIE)

2600XT(AGP)

3870X2

2600PRO(PCIE)

2600PRO(AGP)

X1600(PCIE)

X1600(AGP)

X19X0

X1400 Mobility

Nvidia- I have updated the drivers to the latest available from the Mac Pro's and edited to include all Device ID's I could verify. This should cover mostly all 6XXX/7XXX/8XXX series cards. (List of ID's found in attached release notes)

NVinject- By request I have added options for different version of Nvinject(0.1.3/0.2.0/0.2.1). If your not sure choose version 0.2.1 with the proper amount of RAM your video card. I have added a modified version of 0.2.1 for 1Gig of VRAM.

GMA950 - QE/CI+resolution change with some artifacts

GMA950 - No Aritfacts QE/CI but no resolution.

GMAX3100 - suppose to give QE/CI(confirmed for device ID 0x2a02)

Network Drivers:

ForceDeth- This is compatible with most Nforce LAN.

ForceDeth-V - This is compatible with most Nforce LAN(recommended version)

Skge - Driver for most Marvell LAN cards.

RTL8187- Just as it says for Realtek 8187

Zydas USB- For the USB Wireless LAN adapter

Tiger IO80211- Some Atheros cards require this Tiger version to work. Default install is IO80211 from 10.5.2

Broadcom- WLAN driver for BCM4306/4309/4318/4320/4324

RT2500- Suppose to support Dlink WMP54G v4.0, may support some others.

ViaRhine- Just as it says, for ViaRhine chipsets

Intel 100Pro VE- Just as it says, for the Intel 100Pro VE chipset

RT2860- Driver for some chipsets like WL-181, may also work on some others.

Good Applications:

You can choose to install or not, but I do recommend many of these useful programs. They include:

Adium

AppZapper

BBEdit

CandyBar

Colloquy

FireFox

Gumby 50c

Invisibles

KCNScrew

KextHelper

Marvin's AMD Utility

MD5

Pacifist

PackageMaker version 2.1(old harder to find)

Stuffit Expander

Textmate

Transmission

TubeSock

Unison

VLC

Xbench

The Official Leo4all Wiki can be found here.

The mentionedAbout This Mac CPU information installer is an absolute gem! Thanks for all of the hard work eddie11c: I can't (and I know many of you can't either) wait to try this out :thumbsup_anim:

Everything is working fine with that release, the only problem is the time it takes to boot into Leopard. It takes 44-45 seconds, while with Kalyway it takes 23-24 seconds.

It freezes for about 20 seconds at the end of the boot (not a blue screen). I attach a system.log part. Tried to remove wireless card and disable LAN, but it does not help. Removing Firewire does not make any important speedup.

Specs are:

Core 2 Duo e6420@3,0GHz

GigaByte G33M-DS2R motherboard

2GB System Memory

Western Digital SATA HDD and Pioneer SATA DVD

ATI HD2600XT 256MB

Thanks in advance.

It would appear this issue is from you network card by looking at the log. Its trying to connect to the apple servers but unable to resolve.

An update here....after my FANTASTIC ethernet card startted working ....the @#!#*^%# machine wont boot up anymore.....I tried reinstalling ...and it works only if I have not installed my network drivers ...otherwise ...it would just hang during boot after "clearing CS_VALID" step or sometimes "loading mDNSResponder" or even at "Login service (or something like that) starting...started"

I guess its a problem with the ViaRihne drivers...

Hi there, I am still unable to find a solution to the ACPIPS2Nub problem I have had - boot up freezes or on some bootups the keyboard doesn't work. The two points where bootup freezes refer to ACPIPS2Nub and to ACPIPlatform. My options in terms of trying other ACPIPlatform(s) are limited because I need speedstep, which requiresas this requires version 1.1.0.

Has anyone found a workaround to problems they were having with ACPIPS2Nub/ACPIPlatform or know of any useful links that I might have missed? Many thanks.

I reinstalled Leo4AllV3 on my Dell Dimension 8400 after installing 2gb of ram, 160gb sata drive, and a new network card. Audigy sound card removed and Broadcom onboard nic disabled.

Seamless install (thanks Eddie) everything recognized without further patching.

Startech USB sound device - works brilliantly - $11.99 from Newegg - recognised immediately.

Network card - Encore ENL832-TX-RENT $7.99 from Newegg loaded in install - no problems.

The onboard x300 video will only display 1024x768 - anyone have a workaround?

Occasionally goes into some form of loop, particularly when starting up Entourage - Microsoft problem, or other?

Other than the above, works well, reasonably fast.

Hi.

I´d like to know where can I download the Leo4all V3, because this version is the only one who seems to work for my rig, because I tried Kalyway, iATKOS unpatched and patched versions without any success.

So, I hope you could provide me a link so I can download the newest version of Leo4all.

THNX folks.

Anyone successfully install this on Abit IP35 Pro with latest Vanilla Kernel? Most importantly, does Restart, Shutdown work? I try Kalyway before with Vanilla Kernel but Restart and Shutdown doesn't work.

Yes I installed it just fine on my IP35 Pro. Even have audio working finally. However, to my knowledge, Shutdown and sleep don't work with the Vanilla kernel on hacks. You have to use the sleep kernel. I originally used Vanilla with the Kalyway 10.5.2 release and shutdown would hang, but restart worked. After changing to the sleep kernel Shutdown worked fine, but for some reason my monitor, keyboard and mouse wouldn't turn on when i'd try to wake from sleep. I'm not sure if the speedstep kernel allows shutdown to work, but i'm trying it a little later.

Ok. I replaced the 8600 GT with an 8800 GS and now i can't boot. I reinstalled a couple times but it keeps hanging during startup. I don't know if the card is the issue but here's where it freezes. Any thoughts?

CIMG0098-1.jpg

Well it's definitely something to do with the card. When i swap it out for the 8600 it boots into OSX no problem.

EDIT:

Well i tried reinstalling with NO graphics drivers and it let me boot. Once i got to the desktop i repaired permissions, downloaded NVInstaller .41 and installed the vanilla 256. Then i repaired permissions and rebooted and it WORKED! In system profiler it shows full CI/QE supported and even shows the correct VRAM of 384 mb. The drivers must have been causing a conflict for some reason. Oh well. ME = :D

IntelliMac,

Thanks for the reply! Am I missing anything out by using Sleep Kernel instead of Apple Vanillia Kernel? I notice Apple Update wouldn't work or certein Applications installer say it damage and wouldn't install with different type of Kernel. I have a question for you installing Kalyway 10.5.2, what option did you choose to get restart to work with Vanillia Kernel? Restart doesn't even work for me, it restart my PC but my PC is still on. Shutdown seam to work after I updated it with Apple Leopard Graphic Update.

Anyway, I did give this a shot, it boot the DVD just fine, went through the Installation and booted to Leopard for the first time. I'm getting a bunch of texts scrolling through the screen rapidly, is this normal? Then I get a "Still waiting for root device..." GRrr...So I went into Bios and set IDE Controller to AHCI and now it boot in but I'm getting a Blank Black Screen but no graphic at all, I can hear the sound and the Leopard introduction playing in the background. I try all different type of install customization but no luck. I went back to Kalyway 10.5.2, it's the only one that work for me so far. I don't have a lot of lucks getting Leopard to work on my PC at all. That's great if you get this one to work though, because I want my Q6600 to say Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz instead of 2.4Ghz Unknown Processor like on Kalyway.

well I'll detail the options I chose for the install and you can try to mirror that. I'm assuming you have an nvidia graphics card.

The setting I chose are:

Kernel - I used the default 9.2.0 kernel, which is the speedstep kernel. Shutdown, restart, and display sleep all work for me. I could never get my system to wake from sleep even with the sleep kernel, and shutdown wouldn't work for me using the vanilla kernel.

Mobo chipset - intel ICHx

audio - ALC888

Graphics - apple 10.5.2 drivers + the NVInject for your card's VRAM size (I think you may have not checked an nvinject, which would explain the blank screen).

Smbios - I put mac pro, but you can choose whichever you like.

The text you see during boot is because leo4all sets OSX to boot in verbose mode. You can edit your boot plist to change this if you are satisfied that your install is trouble free. I'll post a link to the thread that details how to do this later tonight since I can't do it now on my iPhone, or maybe somebody else can do it earlier. Or you can just search around. I found in the forum for the leo4all wiki.

I think that's it. Everything else I skipped and let it install the defaults. Hope this helps.

Here is the link to how to restore the grey apple boot screen.

I just installed Leo4Allv3 on my new laptop (Compaq Presario A938CA). EVERYTHING worked out of the box. (Video, Audio, Nic, Wifi). I selected Azilla audio, x3100 graphics driver, 9.2 vanilla kernal and power management.

The only issue I have is after the power management turns the LCD off, when it comes back on, it appears to be missing about half of the columns of pixels in the video. Anyone else have this problem?

You issues with video with power management are most likely caused by the X3100 drivers. You are the first that has commented on it though, maybe someone else with the a similar setup can elaborate.

Hey guys, just installed Leo4Allv3 on my homebuilt HTPC. So far everything works great with only minor adjustments needing to be made. Here's my specs

AMD x2 4600+

10.5.2 is installed on a USB IDE drive

ASUS M2R32-MVP (Onboard LAN is unworking ATM, but the onboard audio works using the Azalia kexts)

Sapphire 3870

D-Link DWA 5 something or other (This was recognized out of the box as an Airport Extreme it's an "N" card)

I have the whole system connected to my Onkyo SR-674, I had to download SwitchResX to get the resolution just right on my HDTV, but hey, it works.

One question, I'm having a phenom x4 9550 delivered in a few days, does anyone think that's going to break the system? I mostly use Windows anyways due to the lack of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD playback in Leopard, but I like giving it a try! :)
