Hi!

iTunes 6.0.3 crashes for me when trying to open the "Preferences" menu. It just hangs and I have to force the process to quit. Playing , importing, etc works just fine. I've never tried the 6.0.2 which came with 10.4.4, so I can't say if this version had the problem too. Maybe it's because of some remaining CPUID calls or something with the AMD64? I do have SSE3 though.

Anyone else?

I have an AMD64 and nvidia card. Same problem. I'm not sure if it's really crashing or if the contents of the preference window are simply turning up blank. Somehow I think it's the latter because when I ran iTunes for the first time, most of the windows that should have had text were blank, but I could push the "ok" button to proceed with setup.

*EDIT* Actually, it's not crashing because you can press the "Esc" key on your keyboard to exit the menu. Something else is the problem.

Quit iTunes

Trash com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.ituneshelper.plist and restart iTunes(their in your home folder /library/preference). That usually solves any weird application quirks for me.

What does trashing those files actually do? Are the files recreated when I start iTunes? Also, no one else has a problem seeing the iTunes preferences menu after installing 10.4.4?

Yeah. Definitely an AMD problem. Someone should PM Maxxuss to tell him about this problem with his driver.

(I, if you're curious, have a Celeron D)

I was going to see if I could modify the preferences through AppleScript, but the iTunes dictionary in AppleScript appears blank.

same problemo here!

tried running 6.0.2 off the 10.4.3 partition, no dice... it works, but then the preferences dont come up at all

the preference window used to show up in my 10.4.3 install using 6.0.2 or 6.0.3. neither works in for me in 10.4.4.

also, is applescript support missing in 6.0.2 and 6.0.3 or is it just me?

Ok, I came up with a primitive work-around for setting the preferences that works, but it requires your ability to:

1. Set iTunes preferences in another installation (i.e. from 10.4.3)

2. Access to iTunes configuration files from (1).

My particular reason for needing to access the iTunes preferences was when importing music from my NTFS partition, I didn't want iTunes to copy the music onto my Mac partition, which is what it is set to do by default. Instead I want it to play the music from my NTFS partition, which it now does.

You need the following files from the other iTunes installation which you can get easily by using the search/find function in the GUI to search for "itunes":

com.apple.iTunes.plist

com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist

com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist

com.apple.iTunes.<your user name>s-computer.local.plist

iTunes Library

After you have those files somewhere you can copy them to your 10.4.4 installation, reboot into 10.4.4.

In 10.4.4, overwrite the files you have by copying them to the proper directories. Rename the file with your proper username if necessary. And the iTunes Library is a file of some sort.

Now you should be able to open iTunes in 10.4.4 with the settings you wanted.

got the same problem

AMD64 2800+ (NewCastle) SSE2

10.4.5 installed from patched ISO

iso has 1.0 AMD_Enabler patch, so i installed 1.0a AMD_Enabler which (citate)

"v1.0a fixes the iTunes problems with AMD CPUs in v1.0"

nothing changes, still can't get to Preference

Actually opened it and changed some options but just booting up on my office Intel machine with my home HDD

Maybe you installed it incorrectly?

I had that problem initially, but everything was fine after updating to v1.0a of AMD_Enabler.

I have an AMD proc too, and am experiencing this issue as well. Itunes is useless to me if I can't tell it not to copy my music files into it's folder.

I tried the new AMD enabler patch, But that somehow screwed up finder. I can log in, but finder and my desktop don't load at all. :) Thes is actually the second time it did that to me. I Installed that same patch last week, and ended up having to re install my system. I didn't realize that it was the patch that screwed me untill this second time. :(

Umm... If anyone can help me fix this without re-installing again, that would be cool.

Did anyone ever find a resolution for this problem? I'm using the Jas dvd v10.4.6 now on an AMD 3200+ Venice and running into this issue. I trashed the files mentioned early on, but like others that just got me a huge empty screen for preferences rather than nothing at all.

The AMD Enabler 1.0a patch worked for me. I used the JaS 10.4.6 like you. No problems so far. I just followed this thread.

Hope it helps.
