apowerr
This is why I use Firefox (on Windows, OS X and Linux) Another problem is Safari's lack of support for another anti-phishing technology, called Extended Validation (EV) certificates. This is a secure Web browsing technology that turns the address bar green when the browser is visiting a legitimate Web site. Apple really should make an effort to include that in Safari, it's crucial. A Nonny Moose
Has anybody actually noticed the green address bar for these trusted sites? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90685-paypal-avoid-apples-safari/#findComment-647438 Share on other sites
Maxintosh
Looks like it's missing several critical security features that Opera, Firefox, and Internet Explorer already have: Features are no good in IE if people aren't going to use them... "But EV certificates have their critics. Last year, researchers at Microsoft and Stanford University published a study showing that, without training, people were unlikely to notice the green address-bar notification provided by EV certificates." A better solution is to simply not use paypal (Moneybookers is much better and safer anyway, as you can't get scammed using their service). Another solution is to simply use 1Password which includes all of these security features and many more. I will not be switching away from Safari. It is light years better than IE in so many other ways. @A Nonny Moose: Opps... looks like we cross posted, but we're thinking the same thing Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90685-paypal-avoid-apples-safari/#findComment-647453 Share on other sites
InorganicMatter
Has anybody actually noticed the green address bar for these trusted sites? I do all the time, but probably only because it causes a pain in the butt with my non-certified homebrew web server. Features are no good in IE if people aren't going to use them... Yeah, people are stupid. I will not be switching away from Safari. It is light years better than IE in so many other ways. Oh I certainly wasn't advocating IE in any way, only pointing out how funny it was that IE is more secure than Safari after all those commercials. Firefox is better than both of them anyways. Maxintosh
Sometimes Apple does dumb things. No company is perfect in every way. However, having said that, Apple usually addresses matters like these as soon as they are pointed out to them, so we'll see what happens. Urbz
I for one am not really worried about phishing scams. Mainly because I'm not stupid, and I will continue to use Safari with PayPal. Something as nominal as a green bar does not help or concern me. Forceman
So what did they say when the other browsers were not using anti-phishing, no browser can use paypal? Did Apple drop this feature in safari then? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90685-paypal-avoid-apples-safari/#findComment-647951 Share on other sites

Stanford-Binet
I will not be switching away from Safari. It is light years better than IE in so many other ways. Yup, thats for sure. However, you could still switch to firefox. Firefox 3 will be just as fast as safari when it comes out, even considering apple has crippled it! http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/02/28/2339246 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90685-paypal-avoid-apples-safari/#findComment-649006 Share on other sites
Maxintosh
Yup, thats for sure. However, you could still switch to firefox. We already use both. When we test websites we need to make sure they render in all browsers. However we use Safari 3 99.9% of the time as we find it is the best one for our needs Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90685-paypal-avoid-apples-safari/#findComment-651390 Share on other sites
Ongeloof
I have and will always use Safari, for all my internet stuff... I don't care if PayPal don't like it. Cash is safer. I never learned about it until the last MacHeist bundle but have being using it since and love it.
