jerrymarino
check for a bios update... than make sure your sata ports are set to AHCI MODE!!!! and NOT IDE Mode... also try using usb keyboard and mouse to see if it has any conflicting effect...!!! use Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD... the message shows that it finds a device but cant initialize it due to some trouble... like i said, use kalyway 10.5.2 dvd and make sure your bios settings are correct and up to date... bcoz i ve seen couple of same mobos had successfull installs... so it is down to your settings or your devices, like mobo bios old, or bios settings not correct... Thanks for the help, I did the latest upgrade to the bios and got the same results. Also I noticed that my dvd drive wasn't mounting all the time, so I used a different ide cable, strangely I was able to get to the installer a few times... (Using Kalyway 10.5.2) The first time it installed but then I couldnt boot into it, I have had 2 different instances where it almost gets done installing and then stops and restarts. The dvd drive seems to be acting very finicky, As I am getting different results with the same dvd and bios settings! Looks like im buying an awesome ide dvd rom drive tomorrow haha Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87901-nforce-chipsets-how-to-install-leo-easy-and-fast-with-iatkos-v10i-r3-nforce-edition-or-kalyway-1052-dvd/page/62/#findComment-788092 Share on other sites

jcatlanta
Hi Mysticus! I have a question regarding my setup. When booting with -v, it takes a really long time and I usually get the message that states: localhost kextd [10] IOKWaitQuietc timed out waiting to write kernel symbols. timed out waiting for IOKit to quiesce. It eventually load OS X but it is extremely sluggish and does not show a dock. I had it working nice and steady before but then I plugged my IDE drive again to run windows and unplugged the leopard SATA and since then have not had a stable running system. Is this BIOS related? Because usually when I try to run leopard, I disable all onboard IDE functions, JMicron, IEE1394, and Onboard Lan since my board does not read IDE when running leopard. Sorry for the confusion. But thanks for all your effor and contribution. I appreciate it. Thnx God and your terrific work, I´m not having any kinda trouble with your update package. Everything´s going pretty wonderfull. Not even using Windows anymore. It is installed on my other HD just in case I got any trouble with Leo, but don´t use it anymore at all. I´m just a little bit disappointed with one sound issue. 5.1 channel system only works with 5.1 content. If I just listen to music, it only works 2 channel. It´s not like Windows, that works the 5.1 scheme for all kind of files. But that´s nothing to worry about. jerrymarino
Update! I am making this post from my working install of kalyway 10.5.2! I was not able to get osx to install directly to a sata drive from the installer or from a sata drive. I did get it to install once with a ps2 keyboard, but could not get it to work with osx. (didnt try the ps2 drivers yet). Also I was not able to get my onboard lan or atheros wifi card to work. Although the macbook air usb to ethernet made for a plug and play fix Lesson learned the hard way: Dont try and use anything sata or ps2 with a p5e-sli! Thank you Mysticus C* for the excellent write up and assistance!! Mysticus C*
+ ps/2 keyboard can work but u need additional fixes for that... or simply go buy a ps/2 to usb converter adapter and use it in usb mode all time + sata ports also works fine, it is up to your system i think, you may have ntfs partition scheme all over your hdd or simply your sata ports working in different mode (like ide and not ahci) or if what you say is true about jmicron and if your sata devices connected to jmicron (which i doubt taht nforce chipsets has jmicron controller? thats why it is not working... for the sata dvd (it has known trouble already...) jcatlanta
I think this board does have a jmicron controller.....there is an option on the BIOS to disable it. Well I reinstalled leopard on a IDE instead of a Sata and this time it is a lot more stable, (actually boots up quick!) picked up my wl-138g v2 instantly (airport card) and can finally detect usb inputs (flashd's, externals). Installed Rammjets alc883 and it fixed my audio. Only thing is that sometimes I restart and the screen seems to be on either a dual screen mode or an HD resolution (my highest is 1680x1050). The dock will not show up and on the far left of the screen my mouse goes off screen. What's up with that? Oh and one more thing. In system profile it states that I have a core2duo but under total number of cores it says 1. I think this has something to do with installing EFI (my hack jargon is still relatively new) but I I could be wrong. Thanks for the advice mysticus! Jerrymarino, I was having the same issue for a while. I had OS X (kalyway 10.5.2) installed initially on a SATA, very very buggy, so I reinstalled it on an IDE and worked perfectly! When installing on the SATA, I would get the waiting for root device issue (booting it from an SATA) so I just switched out both the HD and the DVD drive to IDE (a.k.a PATA). For the BIOS, I am fairly sure I switched it from IDE to AHCI ( could be wrong) when installing to the SATA, but the process still was not as smooth as it was with an IDE. When installing on an IDE, try disabling the JMicron controller and the onboard LAN. If you need a wifi card that works straight out of the box, get the Asus WL-138g v2. It detects it as Airport ethernet card and immediately works. Once Leopard was installed, I plugged in my SATA to see it if would even detect it and sure enough it did and runs fine. Phew....these p5n's were not cut out for this....but people still manage to make it so! Thanks everyone! Mysticus C*
@jcatlanta: is profiler showing one core? one cpu two cores?? if it says one core, it means u installed kalyway with default settings (one of which option installs cpus=1 in boot.plist that disables multicores and limit them to one core) and didnt check my guide pic on post#2? at the bottom of the post...??? also i see you have 4gb ram... read post#2 carefuly for Frequent problems... 4gb ram causes random freezes... on nforce mobos... jcatlanta
barg...you know what that's exactly what I did wrong. I was thought since it kept giving me issues with my SATA that I should have the option to run only one core thus selecting that check box. I did not realize that it would disable it completely. I'm guessing this will require a re-install of Leopard or can this be text through some sort of kext? I'm guessing this will require a re-install of Leopard or can this be text through some sort of kext? no need to reinstall... if you know how to use terminal it is very easy in fact open terminal window sudo su enter your password nano /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist using arrow keys (dont use mouse it doesnt work for scrolling) find the line <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>-v cpus=1</string> (it may be just cpus=1) and delete these flags using delete key or backspace and make it look <string></string> after that ctrl+o (this will save) enter (it will ask for confirmation just press enter) ctrl+x (this will quit text editor) but i recommend u to take off 2 gb off your slots and leave only 2gb in the system... 4 gb has issues!!! just letting you know so you dont have to worry about random freezes (usually happens when your copying large files or working on large files in a program...) problem is caused of 64 bit compatibility is not well implemented in nforce ata drivers... which same issue happens in jmicrons as well... @all: check this topic for 10.5.3 update (new package is out 1.4) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=109102 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87901-nforce-chipsets-how-to-install-leo-easy-and-fast-with-iatkos-v10i-r3-nforce-edition-or-kalyway-1052-dvd/page/62/#findComment-793597 Share on other sites

The dual screen is working right now.. but under -x. Another thing.. I installed the nForceEthernetControler.kext, and its working.. but before I cut the power from the pc for like one minute, It used to appear a black screen telling me that I have to restart. Now I think thats solved but sometime the OS freeze and I have to reset manually. Oh.. one last thing! I installed the iAtkos 2.0i with "-v cpus=1", that means I´m using only one core now?? or was only during the instalation? because at the system profiler it says Total number of cores 4.
