Hi;

I just bought a realtek 8139.. Now that I read this, what card do you suggest as the built in is buggy? I don't want a wireless setup.

Regards.

well, i dont really know all the brand names, that uses specific chips... and the ones we are using is a bit buggy... only these two wireless cards confirmed to work w/o droping network... most likely bcoz they are very new drivers... and official... all other drivers we have for pci nics, are originally old ones and initially compiled to work on tiger 10.4.8 or earlier... 8139 works, but if u put pressure on it, it will drop the network connection... for surfing and one at a time type of download, it is ok... i can use it whole day w/o dropping connection but like i said, i dont pressure it...

Free Download information is added to the post #2 for free riders, for the 10.5.2 System & Graphics update... :)

@muitommyyeah i did apply the r2patch to the ir1 then i patched ir2 to ir3...i even checked the md5 and theyre all good.@mysticusas for the hdd driver ill double check in a bit but ill have to get back to you in the next few days as im leaving for the long weekend. thanks!all i was able to see that resembled driver info wasGenericPCATADRIVER: CMD 0x1f0, CTR 0x3f4, IRQ 14hope this helps in resolving the problem :(

well most likely your system will work with appleviaata.kext edit... but like i said, you dont have nforce chipset it is most likely ati chipset, so there is nothing we can do about your system, please read the title, it says nforce chipsets... and also in your signature, you say generic chipset, there is no such thing... there are intel, nforce, via, ati chipsets... you may be able load your hdd, if you boot with -v -f most likely, but in the long turn, it runs slow... so you need appleviaata.kext driver edit somehow... otherwise it will not work... get your ide controllers device id, and add it to appleviaata drivers sata section...

thnx for the help though, ill post back if i get it working. yeah i know theres no such thing as generic..its the mobo thats out of a compaq and i just didnt know what chipset it could have been but like you said probably ATI. i'm formatting a SATA drive i have lying around so ill give it a go. but what could have possibly made the installation take so long (2hrs)...thats the thing that is bothering me.

you answere it yourself, generic driver is basically pio mode, which is 10-12 times slower than your normal access mode... installation on normal systems takes about 10 mins, 100-120 mins should be yours... which you confirm, 2 hrs... if your chipset is sata, you will not see your hdd at all, i think, you need to install os x on a usb hdd, and add the appleviaata driver patch, or tell me your device id for sata i will add it to appleviaata and send it to you... than you install it while on usb... and than shutdown, take the hdd from usb to internal ---> sata port and boot, it should be ok... no other easier method, unless you inject the appleviaata driver to the installer dvd...

alright ill send you the device id as soon as i finish scanning the disk for errors (had some problems with it writing earlier). would i apply the patch you send me with ppf-o-matic to the 1.0i r3 iso?the HDD model is Maxtor 6V250F0 250GB SATA if you could find the id with that...thanks in advanced

nope, it is different... and you will need external enclosure for that... you will install os x on a usb... than while it is running, you will install this as extra... only than it will be ok to put your hdd back to sata port.... and run osx...

yeah i have an external enclosure. so i will install OSX on the usb as normal...boot to OSX on the usb then while in OSX install the extra?

correct...

just run dvd for installation and install only the efi bootloader nothing else, should be easy and shouldnt take more than couple of mins to finish from the boot to finish install...

good luck...

Thanks probably would work like a charm, but will do the install of efi manually vice doing a d/l of the iAtkos release... lots of bandwidth for such a small file I think :D

hi mysticus, i dont know if u remembered but u replied to my thread regarding the issues with either iatkos n kalyway. CodingMonkey had the same problems as i do n he posted here on your thread. I dont know if your reply to him solved the problem but i dont see him posting back here. Do you mind if you could help me out too pls mysticus? i really need your help as well. My specs are at the Sig.

Update: I downloaded iATKOS R2 n suceeded passing into the disk utility section but again im experiencing random crashes n restart request. But when i successfully enter disk utility, no hard drive is discovered. It's just blank. Pls help. Much appreciated.

hmm, that's easy too. you only need to install the boot_v8 file using startupfiletool into correct partition, do that in single-user mode.

Hey Mysticus,

The problem I have is this. I had OSX.5.2 running fine on my system. After working in windows for a while, I rebooted and pressed esc for boot menu. I selected hard drive and then I selected the dedicated mac HDD (two partitions for mac) and then selected the partition to boot from. I clicked enter and it flashed something about starting darwin OSX86 and went back to the partition selection screen. I chose the other Leopard partition to boot from, pressed enter and it flashed the same thing and back to the partition selection screen.

I tried -v, -v -x, -f, -s, all the combinations recommended all over the boards and nothing. It would not leave the partition selection screen.

I then put the iATKOS.r3 boot DVD in and booted from it. I repaired permissions and no help. I then repartitioned the HDD (it is for mac only, XP is on a separate HDD) and attempted reinstall. During reinstall, I open the installer logs window to see what is happening. It tells me that the HDD could not be unmounted with an error code. It then recognizes the partitions etc and proceeds to install. It takes a while while verifying the installer pkg and then says setting installation path.

It goes through a few more things and then freezes when the install log shows "extracting".

It freezes everytime at this point during the install. This is the same DVD that I used the first time and it worked fine. I kept the mouse cursor moving to avoid the "drive falling asleep" issue but it still freezes at this same point on every install attempt (it even does it at the exact same point with Kalway's install DVD so I know it's not a DVD burn issue).

Any ideas?

Only thing left to try is reflash the MB bios and start over from there. Think that would make a difference? Does anything in the install alter the bios in any way that would cause a problem with reinstall attempts?

i followed all the steps above.. and i chose SATA from the system driver cause i have a SATA HD.But after the installation iATKOS v1.0ir3 (for my nforce chipset xfx 68oi sli board) my system cant boot from the hard disk.. I tried from a whole empty hd of 320gb and created a volume from their using mac's disk utility and in options i tried both creating a GUID partition and master booting disk. When the system restarts after its installation i removed the dvd but system fails to boot from my hd.. it shows something like this.. 'no boot manger or no operating system located' i dont remember exactly but i can figure out that it cant find my leopard. I even tried booting up from the disk itself.. typing., rd=disk1s2, i showed the grey apple booting screen with the spinning circle but.. after few minutes.. a sign shows up on my apple's booting screen its like a diagonal line in a circle.. and fails booting up.How do i solve this..?? Please help..and yeah from the installation customization screen.. i chose everything shown in this pic http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/1172/picture2ht1.png still no luck.NOTE: Im not trying a dual boot now im only trying a single leopard at the moment.-------------------------------------------------My specs:cpu: Intel CORE 2 duo e6850 @ 3.00Ghz, [sse,sse2/sse2,etc.] 64bit chipsetGpu:nVidia XFX 8600gt 256 mbHD: 320GB SATA (single)RAM: 3GB (1gb x 2 + 512mb x 2)

@jolly: you need to have a DVD in the first place to be able install os x... so yes! you need it...

@aquariuz: god damn it, I sent you a PM and showed yo instructions how to get R3 and you are still fingering with R2... read the title for god sake, it says R3! I am sendin you the information again, for god sake, please read the damn information!

@mui: I am not sure if you can do it with only one os x installed? it requires you to unmount the partition, meaning you either have to run install dvd, go to terminal and run the script from the usb, or boot to another os x partition where yo saved efi stuff... have you tried it in single user mode? it shouldnt work, bcoz you cant run the script from the the running osx partition...

@zonker: you must have messed up some stuffs I dont know, normally at boot selection window of xp or , vista, when you choose osx and press enter it would come back to same screen if os x is on the same hdd. to get pass that, you need to press f8 immidiately after pressing enter... bcoz darwin checks the active partition and sees it is window, therefore goes back to window, if you dont press f8... if u press f8 it will show u another selection window, and u will scroll to your os x partition with arror keys and press enter, or type -v and enter... should have brought you to os x...

for the other issue, I am not quite sure, it may your dvd disc... or dvd rom may have problem? it looks like your dvd is sleeping? I know you said, you are moving but do you move it 2-3 mins intervals? or 8-10 mins intervals?

also Kalyway would have trouble bcoz of its nforce driver known to have problem with hdds... it is older version of nforce than we used in the iatkos r3, so you need to try it on iatkos r3, and make sure your dvd disc is not scratched or damaged? else cant think of other possibility, bcoz osx is run on your system before, so it is down to you that you messed up some stuffs...

@borrnotty: your bios is not set to boot from your current os x hdd? check your hdds order for the boot order look up? go to bios, and in one of the sections you should have boot order like floopy cd hdd, (think of it this way: you are telling your bios to look for boot first from floopy disc, DVD-rom, and HDD) after that you need to tell your bios, which dvd rom first --if you have two dvd roms-- and which hdd -- if you have two hdds--

then

another one for each individual devices in case if you have more than one type of same device like i said above, like two cdroms two hdds, you need to set their order as well so it will look for the right hdd at first to find boot sectors...

@eskay: check your PM

BORNOTTY and ESKAY: both of you should add your specs to your signature, before I start swearing at you both... It is very annoying to ask every other person, and it is stupid bcoz I said it in the guide already, and people are still purposely ignoring a note something written in huge size... and jump to last post before they even read a couple lines...

hi mysticus, im really sorry. i didnt realize u sent me a pm as well. the "my assistant" didnt inform me of your PM's until today morning. I got your PM along with the R3 info. I will follow your instructions to the letter. i sincerely thank you fo all your help. pls dont get upset :) i will try my darn hardest to get this done without bothering u too much anymore. i know u have a lot of others to help, n i greatly appreciate u taking ur time to help me. Thanks again. :D

thanx for not letting me down with at least signature... :D

Note: I edited the bus bell to trumpet now, it shouldnt be hard to find the TRUMPET, and play it on post #2 :)

Come to think of it, I updated my bios with a "hotfix" nVidia put out. I'm wondering if this changed some bios settings and that is why it is not working.

Can someone please put up a detailed listing of the bios settings I need to have?

Thanks

try to downgrade your bios with previous version... so that you can see if it helps... find old bios from mobo website, and flash with old version...

@mysticus

single user mode is okay, but need to make sure you did it to a correct partition.

thats what i mean man, you cant do it in single mode unless you have two osx installed partitions, try to do it from single user mode to the partition you booted of from, see if you can do it? it shall give you an error message saying something like hfs partition found ... not mounted or busy...

you cant unmount the same partition you booted but you can do it from another osx partition or from dvd simply, and not directly to the partition you are running... if i m not wrong... try and see? :P correct me if i m wrong?

@jolly: it is a big file indeed to download whole dvd, but it helps in the long term, so you dont have to mess around too much to just install osx only... with dvd you can install it in 10 mins brand new... otherwise, with toh you will have to wresstle a lot for nforce... if you still dont want it, thats your choice, but you need a dvd to boot from, and than you can apply the patch from a usb flash memory where you save your bootefi_v8 file and pragram to apply the efi... startupfiletool...

OK! Thank you so much for everything you have no idea how long its been trying to install any verison any distro of Mac OS X on my MB. I have (not kidding) 8 DVDs of diff installers Leo and Tiger.

I need some help though, currently do not have drivers for most of my computer.

I need USB drivers badly... but I don't know how to get any files on the mac without them. I have installer for both my video card and networking but there beta and can't install without USB.

I need help installing Nvinject also. I can't find any guides.

Thank you.
