So just to report back. I have iAtkos v5i fully booted and working. I only don't have any network connectivity (wired or wireless - broadcom and intel card). I can't shutdown and I can't use AHCI mode.

I wanted to know if there is a way to install IntelSATA and IntelAHCISATA post installation? Could I just add in those kext's from somewhere and then enable AHCI in my bios?

The reason I want to enable it is because Vista uses it and so I don't want to have to switch it in the BIOS every time I want to switch OS's.

More on the D630 and OSX.

I succeed with iAtkos v7, problem are :

- No Ethernet support for the Broadcom Wired :

On my D630 lspci report it as :

Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5755M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express [14e4:1673] (rev 02)

I used some of the kext in this thread but neither works ;(

Here is what I see in logs :

- Wifi not available since no driver/kext for Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN Network Connection [8086:4229] (rev 61)

- To use the D630 keyboard, I used VoodooPS2 kext, but see some spurious kernel panic at boot time.

- Shutdown/Restart didn't works, even when I'm using the OpenHaltRestart kext from Psystar.

IF you're using 10.5.7 with D630, which kext are you using to fix these ?

Regards

im lucky, i had had success with iaktosv7.

But it gives still a few problems.

My D830 have a VideoCard Intel GMA965.

Unfortunately the driver GMAX3100 does not work (i used by this Thread),

i gets here a black display after login.

From where do i get the correct driver for GMA965?

Display sleep.

My display sleep, the mouse is no longer visible.

Click short on the start button been sufficient, so that the Mause works again.

Which kext is missing here?

Thanks for each assistance

parcival

Hi,

I got the same problem. I don't know how to solve it, but I can give you a try. When the screen get black you have to wait around 10 min without touch your laptop. When the laptop sleep try to wake up pressing the power button. It worked for me.

My theory is about the resolution startup problem. It looks like a hangup caused for a bad screen resolution setup... maybe more than it really support. Just theory.

If somebody know how to fix this pls help us!

Tks,

Daniel

Has anyone seen this kernel panic? I get this when I use the -x boot flag on iATKOS

D630?

I disabled almost option at bios setup, using ATA for my hard drive. Don't be concerned about lost of your "good stuff" because it just need for installation. After the installation I put everything back, even the AHCI option I put it on.

At the boot command I tryed succesfully this:

toh -v

or

toh -v cpus=1

or

toh -v cpus=2

I hope it can help you.

Daniel

When you say you have 10.5.8 vanilla booting fine. Does this mean you used the Darwin loader and then at the prompt you put in a 10.5.8 disc? I'm not familiar with that method. Could you explain?

I already have osx on another laptop (Lenovo). My procedure is like this.

1. Format 16GB USB key for OSX using Disk Utility

2. Mount vanilla retail OSX DVD

3. open (from Terminal) System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpg

4. Install it on USB key

5. Install any updates like 10.5.8 (full)

6. Install Chaemelon RC2

7. Install SuperDuper,OSX86Tools, Pacifist etc

(I already have one spare USB key like this with OSX loaded. This is my recovery disk)

8. Boot the target machine (in this case D630) using the USB key

9. If loads fine then once booted format the internal main hard drive using Disk Utility for OSX

10. Use SuperDuper and transfer the OSX on the USB to hard drive

11. Install Chaemeon RC2 again on the hard drive

12. Boot using hard drive now

13. Make necessary changes like installing kexts etc

In case if vanilla kernel doesn't boot from USB, try voodoo kernel. I use my other laptop

to make changes to the USB

Few notes:

1. I was wrong about "sound" with vanilla 10.5.8 part. I use VoodooHDA

2. For Video, try this. no need for sleep script etc.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...mp;#entry543633

I get resolution switching etc

3. onboard wired network (bcm) works fine. I've the driver. PM me if anyone wants

I'm going to throw the Intel wireless part and replace it with Dell part from ebay.

I'm going to throw the Intel wireless part and replace it with Dell part from ebay.

I see you have the D630, so I don't know if this advice applies since I have the D830, but I think the machines are equal other than screen size. If you don't have a WWAN card in your laptop you can add the Dell Wifi card in the WWAN slot instead of replacing the Intel card (you just use the WWAN antennas already there). That way when booted into OS X it'll use the Dell card but when you're booted in Windows both cards can be used to provide a bit of extra bandwidth. That's how I have my D830 setup.

The only 'trick' to do this is the need to go into the BIOS and make sure the Wifi switch will turn on and off both the Wifi (original Intel) and WWAN (replacement Dell card) slots. That's assuming you use the switch currently to run Wifi on and off :P

With iAtkos v7 and the modified Broadcom kext everything works great except :

- no wifi with the i4965AG (but an USB key could do the stuff)

- reboot/shutdown didn't works and I should remove the laptop battery ;(

- sleep lock completly the system.

Did some of you get reboot/shutdown/sleep works with a 10.5.7 ?

Hi guys, total newb here

I'm pulling my hair out, and I think I've read through this thread (and about 30 others) and I still can't figure out what the deal is.

I have the d630 with Nvidia quadro graphics - I was able to install iDeneb v1.5.1(10.5.7) using the -v cpus=2 switches, but on the first reboot I get the chamelion screen, when I actually try to boot in (even in safe mode) the white apple splash screen shows then I get a black screen - (backlight is off and everything)....

I'm sure I just needed to install the nvidia drivers - the problem is that I never came to a point where I could choose what I wanted to install and what I didn't..

I know I'm probably going to kick myself for missing whatever it is that I'm missing, can anyone help?

I'm currently downloading iAtkos v7, but have a while to go - i saw some people had success with that, but I didn't see if anyone with the nvidia graphics in particular had success.

[edit] I forgot to mention, I tried unplugging it and letting it get to sleep then trying to bring it back, but that didn't seem to work. Also, when I boot in verbose mode, it seems to boot fine, once it gets past that point (I assume when it actually gets into the OS registration screen and welcome and all that - that's when it goes black.

Should I just give iATKOS a shot?

[edit] I'm just dumb. I reinstalled and found the customization option. Reinstalling now, I'll let you know how it went.

Yes get iAtkos v7 and the modified Ethernet driver in this thread (BCM5755M.zip) and it works

After upgrade to 10.5.8, the official Apple kext recognise the Broadcom directly

iAtkos v7 works great with a modified ethernet driver

And when upgraded to 10.5.8, the official Apple kext works like a charm !

I had a very similar experience. Very close to a perfect install:

Phoenix73 - you get shutdown/reboot/sleep working? would love to know what options you chose during installation.

Has anyone seen this kernel panic? I get this when I use the -x boot flag on iATKOS

i was getting the same kernel panic everytime, regardless what flags i used. i removed my wifi card and booted with -v flag on iatkos v7. worked like a charm.

I tried removing my wireless card (intel) and I still get the same kernel panic only using -v. I think there might be some other differences between our 2 systems.

I purchased "Dell Truemobile DW-1490 Wireless Card 802.11b/g" from ebay for $13 including

shipping and replaced the crappy Intel card.

Vanilla 10.5.8 recognized the card during boot and configured during the fresh

installation steps.

hi i am getting a 2nd hand dell d630 soon.

can anybody post an updated guide for d630 with update to 10.5.8?

really grateful for any help as the installation guide is the first post is quite outdated already.

Purchase retail leopard DVD from craigslist or something. Save yourself

lot of hassle with installing other distros.

I've D630 and vanilla 10.5.8 (retail) works fine. Ofcourse you need ApplePS2Controller,

VoodooHDA and kexts for LCD.

I will help you with that. shoot me a PM when you have laptop.

Has anyone attempted to install the Java 1.6 updates running a D630 ? I am currently running OS X 10.5.6 with just about everything working so I do not see the need to try and update further than that, however I do require Java 1.6. Is it safe to install the Java update provided by apple ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1856 ) ? It states that this will onlly work for amd64, uname -a however states i386 (Nessus on the other hand detects that there are java updates available for my system ). So my question is: Is there someone who has Java 1.6 working on a D630 ?

Has anyone got 2-finger scroll work? I cant get it 2 work with 2-finger, however, it works like 1 finger scrolling, with the smart scroll, the touchpad is more like the iphone screen, scroll with ONE finger, also, how to disable the tap-click?

Hey all, I'm quite new to all this, I have installed iatkos v7 onto the D630 with Intel Crestline Graphics after multiple retries, and finally got the LCD showing up something after I followed the instructions of the first post about removing the default kext.

Trouble is, it's all quite slow - expose is choppy, as well as the flurry screen saver. Checking Hardware / graphics/displays I can see Quartz extreme isn't supported.

Is it because this is a crappy video card or did I do something wrong? Is there a way to check if things are properly installed? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
