@Anyone doing Bench Testing for Installs on the Gigabyte and Asus boards:

Has anyone compared bench specs of using Ram of different speeds using the installs of this topic?

i.e. Is there much of a difference in performance using the 800 vs. 1066 RAM or even overclocking to 1200?

I ask because if it makes a big difference, then that would be a good reason to go with a Gigabyte P35-DS3* board vs. a ASUS P5W DH. Since the Gigabyte boards support 1066/1200 (overclock).

Granted a Dual Core vs Quad Core will make a difference, but I'm just talking RAM speeds.

If anyone has done this I look forward to what you have to say.

Thanks!

There is not much of a difference, especially for the price difference. The asus p5w dh does support 1066.. and knowing that you can overclock much higher than that.. i'd say it could support 1200 (right now my fsb is 1334.. and has room for more)

@Black dude, i never was able to get shut down to work on the DS3L (works on p5w dh).. also i didnt have mine long enough to do the update on it.. but i have heard of extra long boots for whatever reason.. boot with -v to see what is holding you up.

The p5w dh boots up the same speed as before (admitingly.. does not boot up as fast as the gigabyte ds3l.. but when it is booted up.. it is fast.)

@Justin.. what are your full specs?

post-110603-1203464083_thumb.png

you beat my processor.. and video card (in opengl anyway) which is expected because the 8800gts G80's arent given the speed they deserve for osx86.

my specs: E2180 @ 3.2 (320 x 100 FSB, mem @ 1066), Gigabyte 8800GT 512 (G92), 2GB 1066 RAM, 3 SATA disk (non-ACPI).understandably you get much higher thread test results (given your quad). your user interface test is higher which may be due to you having more cpu cache and/or 4GB of RAM. your disk is substantially faster though, can you tell me what your setup looks like for this?oh, i just noticed you have a raptor 10k rpm drive...that would do it!

that's the last 3 lines. maybe I overwrote something wrong, but if you need more lines or something, or have an idea, let me know.

it stops at this point for 1-2 minutes...

you used kalyway combo update? that elimates alot of problems ufortunately... well you can try this. .. reinstall video kexts.. and also, take the ionetworking off the kalyway disk(or whichever ionetworking version u use) and replace it with kext helper, or manually if u prefer.

Hi there guys

I have asus p5w dh deluxe, 1gbram, nvidia 6600 le, dvd lg (ide) and the harddrive used to install kalyway is a samsung 10gb, small I agree, but as I have tiger running as my main OS I can't erase my hdd...

So, when I start the instalation it takes ages to get into the language selection; my first install was efi, guid and so one. at the end, it gave me a error msg saying the install failed due an unknown error. on the logs, the last line state some file could not be erased some pkg (***editing- Vol/OS X/BaseSystem.pkg.129.pc7tIP). Then I tryed to install as mbr and all other settings. same issue. then, I unmarked all options as mbr, and later as guid, and kept same msg comming...I tryed also disable all funcions on bios, but did not worked.

So guys, there is any light for me? I have been reading lots of posts, but couldn't find any detail about this problem, which I really belive is a small mistake Im doing in some step.

have a nice time guys, and thanks in advance.

@kings freak, that is wierd..

anyone else with this problem?

You can still edit the about this mac.

I agree it's weird and you're right, I have edited the "About this mac" no problem. I am going to try and rebuild with AHCI turned on and GUID format and see if that changes anything. I will let you know if anything changes.

reinstall video kexts - does this mean reinstall nvidia drivers?

also, I'm sorry, but I don't understand the second part of your response... what is ionetworking, how do i replace them and where are the correct versions?

thanks

Just a wild guess here. Is your target volume (the drive you are installing to) named "OS X" with a space in the name? If so, remove the space and try again. Also, make sure the drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended Journaled.

Oh man, you think it would be really possible? I read this this night at work, and came to think, that maybe if file/dir to be deleted on the end of install is deleted by a sh script, it maybe would understand the "X"(or any other second caractere after space) as a parameter. but well, I just installed iAtkos, marked partition with boot flag by terminal (on my 10.4 uphuck) and well, still not booting. Anyway, I will try your advice. will try Kalyway again and use one single name. I will be back in some minutes with the result ;-)

and mate, thanks for reply ;-)

Some people were saying that they could not see all drives when SATA=Advance Host Controller Interface (AHCI) ... I have a ASUS P5K Deluxe Wi-Fi/AP with Everything working (well ADi1988b only 2 channels work, but everything else). I'm running a NVidia 8600GT (ASUS as well). Here's my screen shot of my basic install before I start muxing with ADOBE's suite and I did nothing special but the kalyway combo update with the kalyway post-combo vanilla kernel. If I can be of assistance to someone don't hesitate to ask. (btw on the about this mac section it reports 3 gigs it's actually 4, but I was getting kernel panics so I had to add maxmem=3072 as found on the guide in this forum)

oh and I used the NVinstaller v.33 found here: "http://scottdangel.com/blog/?p=15"

Opps! ... sorry I didn't mean to post that this big ... sorry.

My About Mac shows my ram as 677 but System information say different (and I know its not 677). It does show correct CPU processor and speed. Do I need to get the modified kext file?
I wouldn't believe everything it says. Mine says 4.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo. I wish. I'm running an E2180 at 2.4 Ghz.

@ powaking.. if a value is incorrect, and you know what it really is for sure, than disregard it. You can try updating your kext with the one i put on the guide in the "fixing about this mac/system profiler section"

@marcos_curriti. DCI is right, it has trouble with spaces in the name.. i believe you can just rename after you install anyway. Make it one work (or i think using _ works). Also, are u installing this on top of the tiger? i dont know how this works too well. Make sure your hard drive format corresponds with the format you chose in customize (guid/mbr)

@black dude. IONetworkingFamily is a kext (.kext). It can be found at /System/Library/Extensions. Stick in you kalyway dvd and there should be a system/library/extension folder.. drag it onto ur desktop.. use the program "kext helper" you can find it by searching it in spotlight, and the ionetworkingfamily.kext into it, put ur password, and install. REstart of course.

mtotho, great guide. I followed it to a "T" and now I have a great Leopard system now. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Here are the specs:

Install: Kalyway 10.5.1 SSE2 SSE3

Motherboard: Gig 935-DS3L(working)

Processor: 2.0 ghz E6500 dual core (working)

Ram: 3 gig Patriot (working)

Video: GeForce 8400 (working, w/ patch)

HD: 320 gig SATA Maxter (working)

DVD: IDE HP 740 w/ lightscribe (working)

Sound: Not sure, whatever is on the board! (working, w/ patch)

I would like to add that I was very successful using an IDE DVD rom with the install. Absolutely zero hang ups and no issues. Must be the brand or firmware version of the unit (bought a SATA DVD just in case, going to return it).

Two Questions:

1. Will time machine work with this install, would like to back this up in case of any accidents (If not, how do you back up the drive so that I can boot from it?)

2. Will a D-Link wireless PCI card work with this install? What about a IEEE 1394 Firewire PCI card?

My ethernet work with no patches, and I surf the internet great. I use Apple Remote Desktop 3.0 with my macbook pro to connect to my iMac at work and have no problem from my house. Last night I tried to do the same from my new hackintosh and I couldn't ever connect. I also installed Toast 8 with the Tivo transfer and I can't ever connect to the Tivo either. Have you seen this before where you can't see other computers or peripherals, and if so how do I fix this.

Other than that small hang up, the systems runs great (112.89 on Xbench). Oh almost forgot, plugged in the camera that came with my xBox 360 and it works perfectly with no bugs, so it is a great substitute for an iSight camera.

I have an interesting problem.

I had originally just installed 10.5.1 through kalyway with no problem. Full everything except for a problem with my 512mb hard drive. Thank you for your guide!

However, once I installed XP, I no longer was able to access the internet through leopard. The lights on the ethernet port are not blinking and it is saying that there is no cable connected (there is, considering I am online through XP)

I then erased and reloaded both systems doing XP first and then Leopard, I forgot to take out the ethernet cable while i was loading the disk, but removed it before I started installing the OS so that shouldn't be a big deal.

So, does anyone know why I can't get internet when I used to be able to? Does it have anything to do with the driver I had to install off CD Gigabyte gave me to get the XP internet going, cuz it was after I installed XP that the internet on Leopard stopped? Any ideas?

There aer some issues switching back and forth.. and people say to enable "wake on lan" in xp network settings.. and various other things in leopard.

@anybody.. there is a problem with this sites uploading (or my privelages) it seems all my links dont work. I have rehosted the Asus p5w dh tutorial on rapid share and megaupload.. but i am gonna contact the administrator to see what is up. until then, the other download links will not be working properly

I got it to work by enabling the LAN ROM thing in integrated peripherals. Wierd.

Thanks for the guide though

@The monkey, can you see shared computers in ur finder? bonjour services may not be working.. in that case, i would try the RTLR1000 kexts. I am not sure if time machine works OTB.. but there are fixes for it.. i can direct you to find the fix.. but i cannot post it. if you connect to the IRC chat.. osx86.hu or whatever.. go to the Leopard channels, there is a "TM Fix"

thanks for the start-up info, it's practically the same method on installing audio, but didn't understand that before.

I did as you said, but nothing changed :/

btw, I've used the combo update on the 5.2, but didn't install seperate new vanilla kext. since I didn't check vanilla upon installation, does this affect me.

sorry for beeing retardoquestion

well black dude, i think you could use vanilla. You have one of these compatible board, it should work. That could be the root of the issue.. but cannot be sure.

Very much appreciate the excellent guide!

Re: AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface). AHCI enables NCQ (Native Command Queueing) and hot swap. NCQ may only see a speedup on a server load, and with drives that take advantage of it. Hot swap can also be handy, though I'm not sure how Apple hardware/OS handle hot swap. On linux you just see the new drive show up in /dev/sd* and mount/unmount its partitions. It is my hope that eventually the problem where a Leopard 10.5.2 hackintosh/macintosh with AHCI can only see 2 drives is eventually resolved.

OK, the AHCI issue is restated near the end of the OP. Now, consider a Gigabyte board with 8 internal SATA plugs. 2 of them are purple SATA plugs controlled by the JMicron. I believe these are the ones at the top of the BIOS setting page? Then the ICH9 controls 6 more. Which of these 8 will work if you turn ON AHCI (in both places in the BIOS)?

Should also point out that technically, AHCI drives are in fact removable, they are hot-swappable (you just need a cage that allows this e.g. icy-dock). Maybe that is why OS X gives them an orange removable icon.

One thought, the pictures in the OP don't work. Maybe you could copy the textual list of BIOS settings (the ones you agree with) from this post http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=83141

meaning i should just find the kalyway kext updates and install it, or meaning I should have installed them in the first place?

As Tesla suggested, and as I've written about 5x in this thread, try enabling the Onboard LAN Boot ROM. My LAN was working fine in XP, but would not work as soon as I booted into OSX. Flipping that one setting got it to work in OSX.
