cyclonefr
The lowest FPS screen (125 fps) is WoW running in Vista with the EXACT same settings as in OSX. So what are you waiting for ? It's just so people stop bashing the card because of XBENCH telling it performs as bad as an ATI X1600. The thing is XBENCH sucks, got it ? U.C.
So you are trying to say that games give equivalent performance in Vista and OSX?? Does this apply to cider-ized games too?? Think I will give Gears of War a go. U.C.
Shoooo spanakorizo, go act like a troll in your own thread. I installed XP for games, which is why I asked cyclone if Cider emulation is as good as Games on Vista/XP?? cyclonefr
Cider emulation isn't really better IMO, I only tried NFS Carbon which runs like {censored}, and C&C3 is fine but no where as fast as on Vista. What I'm trying to explain there is how OpenGL can be powerful on G92 as long as it's running an optmized program and here i'm running NATIVE version of WoW, not Ciderised. In this case, WoW is faster on OSX (at least on the scene I used to do the screenshots). Just try and let me know how it goes EDIT : to spanakorizo, I didn't install OSX to play games, but I find it very useful when I can play some Worms on OSX without having to reboot on Windows. Korrupted
MAME is NOT a good graphics benchmark program. It only uses the GPU for resolution stuff, as well as offloading a TINY bit of the graphics processing from the CPU. That said, it's a great CPU benchmarking tool.. <.> Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/79186-just-for-the-people-who-still-think-geforce-8800gtgts512-g92-arent-optimized/#findComment-581721 Share on other sites
cyclonefr
For those interested, my 3DMark 03 score (running it through Crossover) is 10855 (unchecking every test except GPU test 1, 2, 3), beating pretty much any video card (X1900XT, G80, HD3870, etc). It's just so people stop bashing the card because of XBENCH telling it performs as bad as an ATI X1600. The thing is XBENCH sucks, got it ? Now tweak to max settings. At full everything 1280 x 1024, on a system similar to yours (in fact same thing, just not OC'd CPU) with 8800 GTX I get stable 30-80 fps in OS X, average 'd say 50-60. In Vista x64 on same settings I get 100+ at least, but usually close to 150. Performance isn't even close. These 8800 drivers are raw. cyclonefr
OOps sorry I forgot to mention EVERYTHING is maxxed, even anisotropic 16x EXCEPT FSAA 1X because GLOW + FSAA on OSX = bad. It's a known Leopard bug. Put the new 10.5.2 drivers and your GTX will run better. I'm speaking about 10.5.2 beta drivers, not those 10.5.1 drivers that run like {censored}. radov4n
Yeah, I too figured anything more than 1X FSAA goes boom, not right away, but it does =) How stable are 10.5.2 drivers? Are they good for GTX too? Thanks cyclonefr!! cyclonefr
They are pretty stable if you ask me, at least as stable as the 10.5.1 ones. And yeah they are definitly BETTER for G80 cards, but I don't know if you'll get better performances than G92 (you should THEORICALLY !) radov4n
Cool! Thanks! I'll give it a try tonight. Also, sort-of a separate question. Do those drivers support dual monitors? I am getting a pair of 204b Samsungs, so I sort-of wonder if they'll work out of the box.. or will I have to tweak stuff? Thanks! radov4n
A quick note, after getting 10.5.2 kexts, turning off full screen glow and turning on /console glfaster 2, I get on average 180+ fps in 1600x1200 mode. vbetts
Performance FPS wise is the same, but there is something you have to remember. You're running a Mac Pro, with either quad core or 8 cores. WoW isn't multithreaded as far as I know, but the Xeon in the Mac Pro is a beefed up Core 2 duo, now look at it like this. Gamers do have the 8800 GT, yes. A fraction of gamers.(There are more tons more gamers than there are on the internet.) Same goes for dual core cpus, like Core 2 duos. Or Core 2 quads. With the the Mac pro is packing, EVEN if it's running the basic Quad core xeon, with the 8800GT and 2 gb of ram, WoW should run better. Faster? Maybe not, but better. Wow isn't a crappy port either, but Wow isn't the best game to compare on Windows and Mac either since it hardly uses the 8800GT on both Mac and Windows. With the power of even the basic Mac pro with an 8800GT, it should do a hell of a lot better than an average gamers PC. One more thing, to scale out basic performance, you CAN'T just include FPS. Resolution, loading times, texture sharpness, and a big one that's important to gamers(Not me personally) AA, and AF. skiraz
Uh...i think in asia...we can get 8800GT for abt...$250 only,so its kinda common in asia..Moreover asian usually used 8600GT for gaming now,no other comments... I was just trying to show that 8800 GT drivers on MacOS are really mature now and are as fast (and sometimes even faster) as on Vista, at least in WoW. Why are you speaking about Mac Pros ? WoW is multi-threaded and has been for a while now. Please check again. And no FPS are not the same. There's quite a difference in FPS I am getting between 10.5.1 and 10.5.2. I have no idea why you brought Mac Pro to the table either. I also think some of us included not only fps in our posts.
