Envying
Thanks all the folks, mods, gurus and developers in this fantastic community! Step by step 1. I downloaded a copy of this Leo from TPB within 10 hours, not bad; 2. I partitioned my IDE HD into three parts, 45GB with 10.4.10 Tiger, 20GB with Tiger 10.4.8; 10GB with Tiger 10.4.9; 3. Since it won't be able to unzip under windows, then I went to Tiger, unzipped it there, and use disk utility to restore it to 10GB partition; 4. Then reboot machine and choose the partition with restore image to boot, OK, then installed it to 20GB partition with a few selection of patch, everything was all right; 5. Rebooted machine to 20GB partition, oops, system just kept rebooting; 6. Then I rebooted back to 45GB Tiger partition, hooked up on colloquy, asked question there, Joe told me to switch a noHPET kerenl, then I rebooted my machine with new kernel; 7. Oops again, I could see kernel panic now with "-v" kernel flag, added one more "cpus=1", still kernel panic with Geforce, Nvidia related kext error, then I asked back in IRC, Joe told me to add my video card Dev/Ven ID in those related kext files; 8. Booted it again, with "wait queue dead....", Then iX told me to add one more flag "-x"; 9. Bang, then I can see blue screen with color wheel spinning, after a while GUI showed up, I copied my user setting from tiger, logg in, nice Leo GUI finally showed up; 10. Problems of it so far: a. No CI/QE; b. Finder crashes frequently; c. RAM FSB not correct in About mac; d. Spotlight icon disappeared; e. still can't reboots, sleeps and wakeups correctly; f. Can't drag and drop icons; Several thought after first time running: 1. I am still thinking it could be the reason of my video card driver, cause after using -x, I can see the system showed up with titan or natit recognize my video card as correct one 7300GT, but w/o -x, I didn't see it mentioned my video card type. Talked with iX, he recommended me to remove all the other dev/ven id from geforce or nv4 or nvresman kext files, I will give it a try again tonight, to see if I could figure this out. 2. Very curious why only under 10.4.8 kernel 8.8.1, I could get both cores working, but in 10.4.9 or 10.4.10, and now in Leo 527 I can only one core working... 3. Still reserve my positive review of the new release of Mac OS X, even though eye candy to me looks nice. antic
I have installed kalyway Leopard 9a527 and I must say it was the most stright forward installation I have ever done. Installed on a freshly partitoned hard drive, selecting gma950, sound, network and wireless related packages. Rebooted to the Leopard welcome video then setup followed by the GUI and surprises surprise also had picked up my Belkin wireless card as Airport which no other Tiger installation has ever done without patching. About this mac showing processor and fsb speeds all detected correctly and CI & QE both supported Only got 2 channel sound. Installed Taruga's ALC882 Sound Fix v0.4b for multichannel support but couldn't get to work so back to Azallia. Desktop looks much more polished than Tiger. Only Graphical glitch is in the toolbar toggle button which appears to have a bit missing off the top. As stated by Envying there are problems with Finder crashing and shutdown. Sleep doesn't work but it never has in Tiger either. Installed ilife and iwork 08. imovie not working and black screen on idvd. All the rest appear to be working fine. Downloaded videos from apple's web site also appear to be working ok after authorisation which I havn't seen in recent versions of itunes on a hackintosh Not sure about how useful Cover Flow is, though this might be due to the crappy gma graphics. One thing that did annoy me was when I selected show all images. This gave me multiple copies of everything. I think this due to it showing cached thumbnails from finder and iphoto. It looks very messy though there maybe a way to filter this. The other thing I'd like to see is some changes to quick Look. When you have a multi page document open it appears that you cannot go to the next / previous pages without going back to coverflow first, a big omission in my mind. If you want a first look at Leopard this is definitely worth an install. Well done Apple and well done Kalyway for putting this install together. Envying
Thank you all for your replies. Update from last night: 1. I went into windows xp and modified the info.plist file of Geforce.kext, nvdanv40hal.kext, nvdaresman.kext, found there are string like "0x004010de amp&; 0xfff0ffff.....". Then I just changed the first part, and rebooted, still kp; 2. Booted into tiger try to repair permission of leo partition, system responded with error, couldn't be done; 3. Booted into Leo, used disk utility to repair permission, HC, lots of files were repaired; 4. Booted again, still w/o -x, system KP; 5. Talked to Joe and iX on IRC, I was intend to replace all those VC related kext with tiger ones, but Joe stopped me and mentioned it wouldn't help and even could get worse. iX told me just keep my dev/ven id in the plist files and asked me to do that in tiger. So later on I just kept "0x039310de" in the files for Geforce.kext, nvdanv40hal.kext, nvdaresman.kext. Repaired permission in terminal with sudo chmod, sudo chown; 6. Reboot with flag "cpus=1", LOL, I finally got into Leo 9A527 with CI/QE, finder showed perfectly, spotlight icon showed up, drag and drop worked. Great thanks to Joe75, iX in the forum and IRC channel, you guys made my day! PS, to iX, I tested it w/o "cpus=1", system will send me to KP again.("Wait Queue Deadlock") Damn, I really hate my Nvidia 650i mobo! Anyway, I had my Leo up and running now! @#$!@%@% Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63649-my-experience-with-kalyway-leopard-9a527intel-sse3-hpet-installation/#findComment-451078 Share on other sites

bluedogmike
envying, Did you simply just copy the non-HPET kernel to the root of your drive and write over "mach_kernel"? I tried this with the kernel from JAS 10.4.8 and am able to get a little further in boot procces, but I still get kernel panic. The AppleAPIC.kext seems to not load also. Any info would be great, Thanks also I use a Asus P5NSLI board and 6400 Core 2 Duo Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63649-my-experience-with-kalyway-leopard-9a527intel-sse3-hpet-installation/#findComment-457196 Share on other sites
tr1pp3r
Leopard installed but: In tiger the 950 driver wouldn't work for my 945 display card, and the 900 works perfect. Video playback and all is working great. But in leopard setup I made the same choices for drivers, but the screen flickered black / grey. So I reinstalled, but this time with 950 driver and no 900 !... it booted up to the welcome video, this showed great. Then into the gui, everything works. but sometimes de dvd playback wont start, haven't watched a video yet but I think it will stutter... don't know why , but the drivers are not working correctly... also the animation of the dock is not as smooth as in tiger with the 900 drivers. alt/ctrl - escape doesn't show me the mediaplayer like gui anymore.. it just goes to a black screen. Besides that almost everything works but my internal wifi (also not in tiger). I have been screwing around a little with the drivers, and still no luck.... Hope some good 950 drivers come out real soon... Also in the installation, the 900 drivers are 12megabytes, and the 950 only 600kbytes or so... why is this big difference? Looks like the 950 cards only got some pointing in the good direction for the os in the drivers? to bad! tigers runs very well.. ah well leopard still beta so probably have to wait for good driver releases as the problems start flowing when more and more users wil install this x86 version:) If someone can help me with this slow-video problem please do It's prette strange! (by the way: the 945 card is family of the 950... so don't ask me why in tiger only the 900 drivers work (and they work perfectly!!!!) Cheers:) ps: Also my core duo shows up as 800mhz.. why is this ? speedstep reports it as 1729mhz! tr1pp3r
Don't think so. Just reburn the image at slow speed, besides... what IS the error ? cause it can be caused by numerous factors!! I was talking about Leo installation, you need to replace it with a nohpet kernel. bluedogmike
Thanks envying, I didn't have any trouble with JAS 10.4.8 either. I tried to copy the mach_kernel from it to LEO install. (my bad) What I do not understand is which nohpet kernel to use, and where would I get it, and how would I actually replace the hpet kernel on Leo? Thanks again, Mike you wouldn't be able to use tiger kernel as a replacement for leo. You have to go to some IRC channel to find it. I don't have the link right now, may pm you later on if I find it. Once you have it just save a copy of your original kernel as a different name, and change the nohpet kernel to mach_kernel under /, then boot with "-v cpus=1", you will be all set. Faint! Are you trying to boot it from a Jas 10.4.8 DVD? Your kernel panic says its a 8.8.1 kernel? Don't get it? Did you replace the kerenel on your customized Leo DVD image with the tiger kernel?
