Alright, that was pretty quick and easy. I replaced the kext file(backing up the old one of course), deleted extensions.mkext, repaired permissions via Disk Utility, restarted and used -f at the prompt, and it works! Hell, I almost don't believe my eyes! So for an Acer 3680, that's all we gotta do. I haven't had the chance yet to see if the Ethernet works or not because I'm at Denney's right now and have to get back to work, but hopefully it will work.

all u have to do to get your ethernet working is to go into your ionetworkingfamily.kext and then into plugins and find appleyukon2.kext, then go into the info.plist and then change ??6211ab to ??5211ab... i forget what numbers were in the ??'s but if u look for the 6211ab andjust change the 6 to a 5 itll start working.

have fun

There WAS a problem. Unless I use the -f at boot, I get a kernel panic. It happens at every boot, I've rebooted several times just to make sure. Other then that so far everything seems to be working well. Is there either a fix for this or a way to make it do -f every time at boot automatically?

I find it's a good thing to do any time I mess with kext files. I used to know what it does but now I can't remember lol, I think it rebuilds the kextcache or something to that effect. So if that's the case that would mean something isn't happening that is supposed to be (or vice versa) when the computer shuts down. When I get home I might post on the topic that the kext was from if I remember lol. Personally I could care less if my ethernet works so long as I have wireless, though it would be nice to have it just in case.

So, I've got working ethernet, working everything except USB and Wireless.... my 4311 isn't autodetected, it doesn't turn on (pci-e slot). How are you getting around this? I've read your previous posts, and it doesn't seem to be working. Maybe I'm doing something out of order?

In addition to the IOPCIFamily.kext, you may want to try and replace the IOPCCardFamily.kext from this thread curtesy of Chun-Nan/Equate. I replaced the IOPCIFamily.kext but my bluetooth broke. Installing the package from the linked resolved this and wifi/ethernet still works.

If you have the Marvell Yukon 88E8038 ethernet and can't get it to work, let me know. As you need to replace the AppleYukon.kext from a different IONetworkFamily.kext.

There is wifi on the C500. However, it requires buying a Dell Wireless 1490 or 1390 card and then doing the SPROM hack and then using that modified IOPCIFamily.kext. Because, unfortunately, the card that comes with the C500 doesn't work in OS X. I finally have wifi in OS X now :( :( ^_^

that is good enough for me, i ordered a 1390, should be here in a couple of days, lets see how it goes

a dell 1390 is the wireless card in the compaq C500 Series........

its basically another name for the broadcom 4311 :/

btw abit of a nooby question, but i have a compaq C504 & dont even know if a have a pci-e slot :P

so far none of the patches have worked 4 me :)

iAl, actually you are partially right in the fact that the Dell Wireless 1390 (and 1490) have the same chipset as the card in the C500. However, they are different in the fact that they are different revisions. That is why that one card works and the other doesn't. Also, the patches haven't worked for you because of the card not working. If you want wifi buy a Dell wireless 1490 or 1390 card off eBay but you will have to hotplug it until i figure out how to get the card to bypass the whitelist while have the card still work. By the way, I thought that maybe if I edited the Sub System and Vendor IDs of the Dell card along with the MAC address it might get by the whitelist.

Hello all,

I've been reading this topic from top to bottom. Bigup to you guys for all your efforts!

Unfortunately my miniPCIe Dell 1490 (brcm4312) kinda works, and I haven't been able to get it to work properly.

It seems as though it's randomly detected (now you see me now you don't) in System profiler. What I did so far is edit the NetworkInterfaces.plist and the brcm4311.kext.

I checked the vendor (14e4) and device id (4312) in winXP with device manager (currently dualbooting) and modified kexts and plist accordingly.

When the card is detected it works and I am blessed with a wireless Airport connection, however this is short lived. After a few minutes I loose Airport connection and/or the card turns itsself off. I am unable to turn the Airport card on again, or reconnect to wireless network (keeps scanning not finding wifi). So no more Airport until after reboot.

I'm at a loss here, so if there is anyone out there who can help me i'd be eternaly grateful!

keep up the good work! :(

PS. I'm running OSX 10.5.1 Kalyway

airport2.tiff

Airport1.tiff

i got my 1390, i tried hot plugging the card while the laptop was at the leopard boot loader but in osx it was not detected, did you have to do the kill switch trick (tape pin 20) to get this to work , actually with the hotplug even in windows i could not get it to connect my router, the driver gets installed but it does not detect any networks

P.U.G. and nirvanaguy19, I would try iAtkos instead of Kalyway because that is what I used.

Thanks, installed iAtkos, atleast with the hotplug trick its now recognizing the card as airport, I still cant turn it on, did you get it to actually connect to your router, did you put a tape on pin 20, looks like it is not getting powered
