I've tried every one of uphuck's releases on my system and have had immediate success with all. It all depends on which of his current releases you d/l. The 'i' releases are for intel. The 'a' release is for amd and the upcoming 'ix' release will be for intels with all ppc+rosetta completely removed. JaS' releases were the first few I tried. His releases began before there was so much work being done on drivers so naturally, if you didn't have just the right hardware in the early days, you had problems. All his stuff has been top-notch. As with all releases, it depends on your hardware, your willingness to research and ask questions, and your attention to detail as to whether a release will work for you.

Here are my experiences:

JaS 10.4.8 works ( i guess every release works! )

uhpuck 1.3 -> i can install it, but some probs with the language.

When i use german , i must log off and log in to active the new language.

Everything changed -> but the 'Applications' i dont know why.... there should be 'Programme'.

uphuck 1.4 r2 -> kernel panic, no chance to install it

uphuck 1.4 r3 -> installation works fine, same stuff here, finder is still in english, system profiler is in german

So in my recommendation is -> JaS, works out of the Box!

both work and install well for me.

uphuck does a better job a trimming the fat and adding drivers.

Jas however works VERY well. i have not seen an updated JAs since .8 so

i went with uphuck.

for some reason i've gotten bugs and stalling issues since moving to uphuck

i wish there was a more up to date Jas file. seems to work better.

I have tried uphuck 10.4.9 various releases, I have only ever managed to get v1.3 installed but always got a kernel panic when booting.

I have installed jas 10.4.8 with no problems at all. I tried to use jas combo upgrade to 10.4.9 and got a kernel panic. I think it must be an issue for my PC with the new 8.9.1 kernel.

I have since upgraded to 10.4.9 without upgrading the kernel with no problems at all.

So, for me it has to be jas.

Try 10.4.9 from Koolkal - works fine :-)

JaS retired from new releases, though he may change his mind. I had more luck with his releases, and I continue to use one of them as a main OS. Uphuck is still doing releases and incorporating new patches, so the choice is clear; use JaS's releases until you can get Uphuck's working as well for you. You usually have to migrate to where the distribution is maintained. I have not tried the "tubgirl" systems.

And can we call them "distributions", as is done with GNU/Linux? There's no term other than "releases" or "systems", so it's hard to phrase things around that.

in two months I tried in two machines:

JaS 10.4.8 + update combo (ss3 only)

Uphuck DVD V1.2 10.4.9

Uphuck DVD V1.3 10.4.9

Uphuck DVD V1.4i 10.4.9

Uphuck DVD V1.4i r2 10.4.9

I prefer JaS because Video QE CI & sound works ´out of the box´

The JaS 10.4.8 iso's that have been patched are good, the original ones are not so good since they have skimpy driver support. I had to do an awful lot of work in safe mode to get my video card working with the original JaS stuff since the natit drivers included were useless and just screwed things up despite me having one of the most common video cards at the time. I ended up getting one of the ppf'd JaS iso's and it was great, I was finally able to boot with QE/CI right away since it came with Titan, the one I have also allows me to use IDE drives on jmicron which apparently is a very rare thing and saved me money.

If Uphuck doesnt come with Titan then I wouldnt use it. I dont think theres anywhere to download the titan.kext yourself anymore, so it must come with the iso, if it doesnt then youll have to deal with a hit or extremely frustrating miss that comes with natit.

I will say both Jas and uphuck team did a great job for every release. As people already mentioned, Jas's release are earlier than those of uphuck, so the driver pkgs are less. That may cause problem for same system including one of mine with SB450 chipset. I can't install with Jas release. While for the PCs that work for hackintosh, Jas is always the best choice

Uphuck team did a great job because their release integrated bunch of driver pkgs. That allow many of us install mac os x natively while w/o lucky from any release before. uphuck 1.4 r3 is the best uphuck release for intel system so far. ONLY one concern I really don't understand. Why the uphuck release since 1.4 limit the space to 1.35G and remove so many application like mail, isync, iphoto, and so on? We use hackintosh and we want it as a whole mac os x, not a handicapped system. And disk size is not a problem for many people now if just one or two gigabytes difference. Just my two cents.

Thanks Jas and uphuck teams always. You can do it. We are appreciated!

;)

I agree,

i have also somes little prob with Uphuck ;

FCP looks for en0 which is the integrated ethernet available on all real Macs. If your network card has a different number, it will quit after loading.

On a french localisation the utilities folder isn't translated

For me tested on Asrock conroe 945 DVI and DQ965gf Intel the best is JAS 10.4.8 plus koolkal 10.4.10 intel combo wich have all the pkg i need
