Declan Chase
Can anyone recommend a CHEAP yet quality scanner - USB, I assume? My current unit is becoming unreliable. Thanks!

OMX-Knuckles
Cheapo HP Inkjet machines =/= their lasers and officejets. IIRC they're even made by an entirely separate division. I worked for Office Max for a year on sales- I've a bit of experience with printers Anything under $200 or so will be {censored} but all of the Officejet lines (6xxx/7xxx series) are generally great and their lasers are well-built. I've a buddy that still uses a Laserjet 5; at work we have a Laserjet 5 and 4100 that still work great.
Viscaria
I'll second the VueScan comment. I have an epson scanner that has some bloody awful drivers (unstable, gets screwed up when trying to use it with multiple users, etc), but with VueScan it Just Works. Absolutely wonderful. Tick-Tock
My LiDE 30 works fine under 10.4, though I had to do a bit of fiddling with the drivers, I got it working just fine. No TWAIN support though, so I can't scan directly into Photoshop.
