Clovertown 3GHz... damn. Now I can no longer boast that my Pentium at least had a higher clock speed. Time to start saving up.

I wonder why Apple decided to randomly announce it today. Everybody was expecting them to introduce them at the WWDC along with Leopard.

I see it says "Optimized for Adobe CS3." I think it can handle a little more than that, wouldn't you agree? :)

Wowww! That was my first reaction. But when I visited the Apple Store and saw that the MaC Pro is still exactly the same (including price), with the added option to select 2 Clovertown for the measly cost of 1498 bucks, I was rather disappointed.

Now come on, who would buy such a monster with 1GB RAM and a GeForce 7300?

I tried to configure it in a way that in my opinion makes more sense:

Specifications

* Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

* 8GB (4 x 2GB)

* 250GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s

* ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB (2 x dual-link DVI)

* Two 16x SuperDrives

* Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse - U.S. English

* Mac OS X - U.S. English

Price: $6,444.00

For now I'll definitely stick to my hackintosh, recently upgraded to a Bad Axe and a core 2 duo E6600.

Phew, $6.5k just for that. You won't even last 3months with a 250GB drive with torrents, music, and all your creative content. Id rather go for a QX6700 hack and plenty of fast drives, but its pricing is somewhat along professional turnkey workstations which is a bit acceptable.

Still to expensive for me! :)

Ack, I just checked the pricetag. $1,500 extra for dual clovertowns. That's $350 more than I paid for my entire computer!

I managed to ramp up a $18,371.00 price tag by maxing out all the options. I guess the Mac Pro really isn't meant for home use. I wish they'd make an affordable desktop tower machine.
