In addition, at that price ($3997.00), I think i'll be holdin' on to the 'ol quad core for quite a while to come........ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47460-8-core-mac-pro/#findComment-339724 Share on other sites
user2
I didn't think Intel had released the 3.0ghz quads yet. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47460-8-core-mac-pro/#findComment-339732 Share on other sites
Takuro
Link: http://www.apple.com/macpro/ Clovertown 3GHz... damn. Now I can no longer boast that my Pentium at least had a higher clock speed. Time to start saving up. I wonder why Apple decided to randomly announce it today. Everybody was expecting them to introduce them at the WWDC along with Leopard. I see it says "Optimized for Adobe CS3." I think it can handle a little more than that, wouldn't you agree? Alessandro17
Wowww! That was my first reaction. But when I visited the Apple Store and saw that the MaC Pro is still exactly the same (including price), with the added option to select 2 Clovertown for the measly cost of 1498 bucks, I was rather disappointed. Now come on, who would buy such a monster with 1GB RAM and a GeForce 7300? I tried to configure it in a way that in my opinion makes more sense: Specifications * Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon * 8GB (4 x 2GB) * 250GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s * ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB (2 x dual-link DVI) * Two 16x SuperDrives * Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse - U.S. English * Mac OS X - U.S. English Price: $6,444.00 For now I'll definitely stick to my hackintosh, recently upgraded to a Bad Axe and a core 2 duo E6600. Zulu.Walker
Phew, $6.5k just for that. You won't even last 3months with a 250GB drive with torrents, music, and all your creative content. Id rather go for a QX6700 hack and plenty of fast drives, but its pricing is somewhat along professional turnkey workstations which is a bit acceptable. Still to expensive for me! TvvqKMZ72bsklauw5
Beat me to it (by 5 hours lol). That's still a large price to pay for it but I'm sure those who buy it won't be dissappointed lol. Takuro
Ack, I just checked the pricetag. $1,500 extra for dual clovertowns. That's $350 more than I paid for my entire computer! I managed to ramp up a $18,371.00 price tag by maxing out all the options. I guess the Mac Pro really isn't meant for home use. I wish they'd make an affordable desktop tower machine. yoda75
I second that. For God's sake, why won't they bring back an up to date version of the Cube?!!! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47460-8-core-mac-pro/#findComment-339842 Share on other sites

OMX-Knuckles
I doubt Apple will release an inexpensive single-socket tower. Ever since Lisa, Apple's focused on AIO and SFF systems for home use, leaving the expandable desktop/tower form factors to workstations. OMX-Knuckles
I'd be glad to have any 8800 support at all. I'm very happy with my 8800GTS, but it would be nice to be able to use Mac OS again on my primary system.
