I mean, it "looks" better but in terms of design the look is not everything, what matters the most is if you're sending the right message. As such, a direct comparison is somewhat impossible; probably having similar content will make "judging" easier. But I like how "clean" your design looks compared to the clutter he has on his design which is almost similar to most gaming sites. However, your design also lacks the "finish" (or to coin another term, "gloss") I'd expect from such a clean and simple design, but you're on your way to it (constructive criticism). Based on personal preference and basic design, yours wins without contest. There's more design involved in your site than just simple layouting and copy+pasting. The other one lacks professionalism...as mentioned before, it looks more of like a gaming site, which usually are cluttered to the max. The colors in yours also compliment each other, wheras on the other one...its all over the place (again, a typical gaming site design).
